I have a 01 Audi A4 Quattro 1.8t I'm hoping I could get some help with this ticking issue I'm seeming to have. It's in the top end toward the back of the engine. Between the intake and left side of valve cover. It tends to come and go and doesn't do it on warm up and for about another 5 minutes after that till the engine oil starts to get up to temp then the ticking comes alive.

That's the location of your cam chain tensioner. As the oil heats up, it thins out. It sounds like a bad tensioner, however, without properly diagnosing any other issues, it could be due to you being low on oil. What viscosity oil are you using?

Just noticed this is an old thread. Apologies.
