View Full Version : KW and ST coilover Question for S6 & Allroad

I have become frustrated with my PSS9 Allroad suspension due to poor ride quality and front end bounce. I have tried various spring rates and many different settings. Seems like a lot of S6 and Allroad people really like the KW variant II and also the basic ST setup. Is this really the way to go for the best all around street suspension? Does anyone in northern CA have these on their car?

Maybe. Are you looking for something softer? PSS9's are "race inspired".

The ST coil overs are most definitely the best bang for your buck suspension street coil. The nice thing is they're manufactured by KW so the quality and design is good.

ST Coilovers on a C5 2.7T Sedan with 19x8.5" wheels and 235/35 Bridgestone Potenza S0-4's at 1/2 tread (tire size & design make a big difference when you increase suspension rates). Im dropped pretty low, tucking the tires, just under 24" fender to ground measurment. I've had them for a couple thousand miles and here's my impression.

- Zero bounciness under any condition
- Zero clunking or rattling
- Rough & bumpy roads: you feel every little crack & reflector on the road (largely due to low-pro summer tires i suspect)
- Large expansion joints on highway: Firm - Harsh depending on ride height
- Overall driving comfort: Near stock in almost every condition
- Body roll: Car still feels heavy but it handles its weight better. Less dive, less squat aswell.
- 500+ mile road trips? Comfy & communicative - Girlfriend hasnt complained, and can hardly notice a difference from the passenger seat.

Note: if you havent recently swapped out ALL of your front control arm components & outer tie rods, you will experience unnecessary slop and diminished ride quality, especially as spring & damper rates increase.

These ST's, well under $800, far exceeded my expectations. If i lived in the Bay Area / San Fran proper I wouldn't dare run anything firmer than ST/KW, and would probably run 18" wheels or save for air bags. Full review to come in a later thread. Hope this helps.

I've recently changed my OEM suspension for the KW V3 coilovers on my 2007 S6 (95,000 miles) I also changed the all the front suspension arms for new ones.
The car is so much more responsive, taught and planted.
The ride is a bit firmer but there's hardly any pitching on braking and acceleration and it's less crashy on potholes.
The oversteer that I was keen to eliminate has nearly all gone to the point the car be switched into oversteer if provoked.
The car now has the grip and poise to use all the power that it has and it now appears to have shrunk.
To boot I've dropped it a little bit and it has a meaner stance but is still very usable on daily basis.
