Apologies if this is in the incorrect subforum, and another round of apologies for the dumb question.

'02 A4 Quattro, I'm getting an odd rubbing/friction sound that varies with wheelspeed from (I believe) one of the wheels on the front axle. It's not a constant sound, as it only appears in one particular spot in the wheel's rotation. As it increases with speed, this leads me to believe that something may be out of balance, but I honestly have no clue as to how that stuff works. Note that this is without any pressure to the pedal. Any ideas before I take it somewhere and drop mad cash trying to chase what could be a ghost? The garage where I park has a strict no working on cars policy (boo), so I can't exactly throw it on a jack to see what's up. Thanks so much in advance!

How does the car feel - wobbly?

Any uneven inner tire wear - you have get down and look or turn the wheel far right and left.

Hmm maybe have a look at the undercarriage to see if there is anything unattached?

Possible brake shield being bent slightly?

Apart from the obvious, you might take it to a local shop and pay a little for the diagnosis.

Good luck
