C5 A6 vibration ?

Recently replaced the rack and pinion in my car about a month ago , it recently developed a pretty extreme vibration in the left front wheel at speeds above 45 mph , also have a tire skip when cutting the wheel in either direction at low speeds (parking) I'm sure it needs an alignment , but are the 2 problems related in some way ? Any info would be helpful
