So, this great rusty chunk of kamikaze metal had a fight with my windshield... and won... big style!!! [=(]

In getting a quote for replacement as repair is not an option, I was asked if the windshield has an "acoustic interlayer" and rain sensor. The rain sensor is a YES but I'm not sure about the acoustic layer?

The car is a 2006 A4 quattro base model with very few bells and whistles (apart from auto dimming rear view with compass, rain sensor and auto lights) and I don't know if there was a windshield option for this acoustic layer or if all A4 models came with it as standard?

Ultimately, without it, the cost is around $250, with it, it's around $430...!!! I'd like to save the money but I don't want a crappy windscreen.

Anyone idea if it came as standard, if I need it or if it's just an expensive option I can live without?

Have you talked to your insurance? Usually windshield replacement is covered, just pay the deductible.

Current windshield should say acoustic (or there is some symbol?) by the Mfg. information in the corner.

The new Acoustic windshields have a insignia logo on it indicating as such. The older glass can be verified by the part# on the glass

Cool... thanks, I'll take a look.

Unfortunately, my insurance coverage is subject to $500 deductible including windshield. I've actually had a crack in the passenger side for 3 years and when I first tried to claim on that, that's when I found out. I thought most policies had zero deductible on windshields but not my Geico policy. I've been meaning to change but you know how these things go...

Thanks for the info. New one installed this morning. Pilkington solar glass... $430...!!! Coicides with the FW02691 item you listed. What's the PAAS designation mean?

I dropped my car off this morning and the shop had ordered a shield without rain sensors. Dummies. Luckily I asked before I left, and they ordered the right one, which was part number FW 2691 GYY - anyone know what the GYY indicates?

$670 here in Calgary...it's an insurance claim and isn't costing me a dime, but that seems crazy expensive.
