I have a '99 B5 1.8T that developed a PS moan 2 days ago.

I was finding bubbles in the reservoir and I was told a small leak could introduce air into the system and cause it to starve the pump of fluid.

I found a small drip in the pressure line where the metal contacts the rubber.

The problem is I am down at college with no tools. I was going to go home (7 hour drive) for Thanksgiving. My dad has tools and we could get it fixed then. My concern is that by driving it I will wreak the pump which doesn't look like a fun thing to change.

What do you think? Can I drive this car? Or is whats causing the moan killing my pump?

Another thing I am going to try now is to put a little sealant on the outside of the hose to maybe stop the air leak.

Air in system. You can bleed the air out. With engine running and cap off recervoir, chock wheel fully to the left and right a few times while keeping the rpms around 1500. If you are referring to where the rubber hose meets the PS cooler, I had the exact same issue with same symptoms you are describing. Took those one time clamps off and replaced with standard worm clamps. Also bled as system and topped off as necessary.

Thanks for the reply. I will try to bleed the system, only problem is I am afraid it will still let air in. The hose that is dripping isn't one that has the one time claps, its this one:

(thats someone elses hose) It leaks right where the metal part meets the rubber. Another thing is the fluid when warm is exactly in between the low and high. I was just told today that it should be at the high mark. What type of fluid? Mine is clean and its kind of a yellow/light gold
