Has anyone ever tried to make a plain old early non-switchblade B5 type HAA key for the 8p? I know the switchblade type requires Vagcom for IMMO code or dealer to program but was interested in making a basic key as another spare . I have access to a BD Laser cutter so I can cut it myself.

Can't get past immobilizer , but it opens door and turns ignition.
Tried the old way of coding for B5 but so far no luck. It starts car but shuts off and displays "safe " in odometer. Everything is normal when the original flip-key is used.
At least I have a "surfer key" to get in car for under $7.
The key I got has the old style chip and what one Audi parts guy told me was wrong. He said he wasn't sure if it would work but I'm not sure if he knew the flip remotes have a rolling code until he looked it up by vin.

dealership was to program a new flip key for me yesterday . Audi cut it wrong , only 3/4 the length . That somehow prevented proper programming , tech was partially into the process when he found the key cut error. Good thing I know crew at the Audi shop or I'd really be pissed.
I now have two working remote/keys but car cluster displays SAFE like when immobilizer is screwed up . Car still starts and runs but seems slightly reduced in power.
Next week I am taking the incorrect key to my work at Chevy shop and recutting it so the full length is cut. The Audi dealer will then program it properly on Saturday morning. This is unrelated to the surfer key I now have . Its all been a pain in the ass.
At least they are going to wash and mini detail car after its programmed.
