Alright, don't flame... But I always wanted to try this and now that I own an audi with a fairly flexible ecu I'm thinking about trying this eventually. So the idea is very simple:

When you pull fuel, you burn hot and start to detonate and ecu will either pull timing or you'll knock and blow the engine. So if you pull fuel and inject water, it should run cooler and leaner without detonating. Now generally, this is done under heavy boost, but my question is, why has this not been played with for economy purpose?

Assuming you could force ECU to run leaner at part throttle/low load conditions
Assuming you have an external controller that monitors load, afr and gradually adds water/meth as much as it needs, not just on/off, but variable control.
