Is it possible to add this function? Hazards as DRL.
Here is a guide on how to activate it in VCDS- http://ankk-vagcom.com/a4-b8-activer-les-clignotants-en-mode-us/

You can do it in the app as well, there are quite a few options for DRL.

I would love the option to make my parking lights full brightness, similar to how the LED strip is during the day. I drive with those and my fog lights at dusk/dawn and hate how they dim!

I have the options:

"Turn on side marker lights with headlights (US models only) YES/NO"
And
"Use side marker lights as daytime running lights YES/NO"

I have enabled both, but wont work.. nothing happens. Because I do not have a US model?

Yes, we have that in the beta - it's currently unconfirmed. Wanna give it a try? It's for non-MMI cars only.

Yup, that's already in the official version of Carista. Just turn off dimming the DRLs when in parking lights are on.

In the beta, we also have the ability to do that when the HEADLIGHTS are on. If you wanna give it a try, email [email protected] and mention this particular setting. Also specify whether you're on Android or iOS, and if it's Android, what Google account you use in Google Play Store.

Try setting "Turn off daytime running lights when parking lights are on" to YES and see what happens. It should dim or turn off the LEDs, but may keep the fogs on.

The other setting about DRL brightness when HEADLIGHTS are on is still in beta. If you are on the beta, PLEASE give us feedback on whether the new customizations are working (incl. this one). Without your feedback, we can't release those customizations officially and they'll stay in beta forever. Thanks!

When the app asks you to send debug data, please do so. We have just released our official support for the 2017 Golf 7 and Audi S3, which use similar electronics to the TT, so please do send debug data and we'll work on adding support for the TT. Should be much quicker this time, now that we support the MK7 family.

Wiper-related options I would like to be able to tweak/adjust on my B8.5 (2013) A5 Premium Plus with MMI 3G+ :

(a) "additional single wipe" after spraying windshield to wash dirt. I would like to DISABLE that extra single wipe.
(b) spraying of headlamps. Can the "frequency" of headlamp spraying be reduced? Those of us with sloppy winter months with lots of salt and sand sprayed on our windshields spray often to see out. But do we need the headlamps sprayed so much?

Please advise if Carista will have ability to set/adjust these.

We (Carista) don't have any "retrofit" settings at this point, but we're playing with the idea of offering a raw coding feature where you can just change individual bits at a low level (similar to how other competitors do it). That feature would be cumbersome and intimidating to use for a non-tech-geek person, would allow you to screw up your car, but ultimately, would open the possibilities for any coding/adaptation change that you might want to do, including activating retrofitted shifter paddles. What do you guys think?

No no no, we have not at all restricted the use of third-party devices and we have no plans to do so. We are an open platform that works with any generic ELM327 adapter (WiFi for iOS, Bluetooth for Android) that supports the ELM327 v1.4 standard properly. If you have a WiFi adapter that works on your iPhone with DashCommand, it should also work with Carista. Make sure all other OBD apps are turned off, unplug and replug the adapter to the car, connect to its WiFi network, and then try Carista again. If it fails, use the "Report a problem" item in the slide-out menu right after the failure, and we'll get back to you by email.

YES! Please add this feature. Just place it in an experts only section or something.

Also, would there be anyway to add "profiles". The detailed scan of my car takes forever since it has many modules which it cannot connect to as they are not there. It would be great to setup a profile so that unused modules could be skip, thus speeding up the scan.

Good example for the retrofit of Paddle Shift steering wheel! Yes, I see the benefit of an "Expert" or Advanced menu, and the requisite Disclaimer to pop up warning how you may cause damage by entering...

kayroccs
03-31-2017, 08:24 PM
Expert mode: should not show menus that will affect the car critically but allows the flexibility to enter codes for non critical mods. Certain mods should not be allowed on the app interface. If there's a need for that menu call it

God mode: this menu can fuck your car up and we are not responsible for any damages or complete data wipe. Something along that line. Also I would have 3 pop ups for user to confirm changes before the changes are applied, something like a 7 pass on a HD. Have them type in the word "APPLY" to apply changes. That way they knew the consequences and went through the disclaimers. Also have the car data backed up before in case they need a restore.

Thanks, that is good to know. I will try the problem report. The adapter must be malfunctioning then or maybe an iOS update is preventing it from working.

is there any way to confiure the carista so that when you have the DRLs on you can turn on the fog lights as well without turning on the headlights... when I do this currently my headlights turn on automatically with the fogs... I do not want to program the fogs to be on as DRLs, I jsut want to use them id addition to the DRL's some times when its raining or dawn/dusk when the headlights are not neeeded...

Still having ECU communication issues with that setting because it's on the transmission ECU, which seems to have different timing requirements from all the rest.

Yes, we actually investigated that some time ago and got pretty close, but then de-prioritized it. It's still in the plans though.

Yeah, sort of. We have not yet defined that new feature/mode, so I can't really say. But the idea is that it would allow you to change arbitrary coding and adaptation values as you please. Again, I'm not promising 100% that we'll do this, but we're seriously considering it and even working on a proof-of-concept implementation.

Not sure what you mean exactly... what reverse light?
Btw, I just saw that your location is Seattle. I'll be in Seattle for a couple of weeks starting May 25th, so if there are any VW/Audi meets up there, I'd like to participate... and possibly try out new Carista customizations on the spot, per users' demands.

I think the official Audi meets in June. And I think there's a big Euro drive that month as well. But I'll definitely let you know if I see anything.

Here's the codes I want to disable. I've replaced the reverse lights with leds and labeled canbus but it still throws me these errors.

Hi all, we have a new beta with ADS settings in it. Pls give it a try and let me know if it it's working fine :) (it should allow non-ADS cars to enable ADS). If you're not in the beta yet, email [email protected] with your car model and whether you're on Android or iOS (and if you're on Android, include the Google account you use in Google Play Store).

JeriQo, we don't have bulb check settings yet, but we're planning to add them soon.

todor
05-18-2017, 05:08 AM
ADS = Audi Drive Select. It's the "mode" that the car is in (sport / comfort / standard / individual). It affects the way the throttle response on the engine works, the firmness on the suspension (if equipped with adjustable suspension), the shifting mode of the transmission and some other factors. This was an option on the B8.

For cars that have that option from the factory, Carista allows you to choose the default mode when you start the engine (and personalize it by key, i.e. you can have 1 default mode, and your wife can have a different one).
For cars that don't have that option from the factory, Carista allows you to enable it (within the limits of what the hardware can take, of course), and again adjust it by key.

This is currently experimental in Carista and we need your feedback on how well it works on specific models. Thanks :)

In order to see the menu in the MMI, you have to enable some additional things in the hidden menu. So first, activate the hidden menu via Carista (if you haven't already), then attempt to change one of the ADS settings (steps 1-3) and you'll see a popup with info on what to change in the hidden menu (you can then click Cancel on that popup so that it doesn't modify your ADS setting).

Thanks for that info. I was expecting that we could "tweak" those ADS settings available to us, but might never be able to see the menus via MMI. That's great that we may have a way to tweak that too, via that hidden menu capability.

Any ETA on when ADS control will be available via the public (non-beta) app? I'm a little nervous using a beta on my car! I have a 2012 A4 P+, if I grabbed the beta, has this been tested to work? I hear it helps with the low speed lurching in stop and go traffic, so I'd like to try some different drive modes if they are available.

I would like to echo that it would be amazing if the ADS functionality could include the steering options. The engine/transmission option is working for me (however not sure I can honestly tell the difference between the settings - can anyone shed any light as to what I should look for?) but what I really want is the tighter steering.

Also, the other additions to the beta are working great for me. I have turned off the auto E-brake when the driver door is opened which has annoyed me so much and that is such a game-changer when pulling into a spot, I like to open the door to check where I am on the parking lines. And the automatic gear display on both D and S modes are working perfectly for me! Thank you!

+1 on enabling the steering setting.

the pedal responce on dynamic setting is definitely noticeable on my end.
i did a spirited backroads drive on dynamic + manual (paddle) shifting -- made the drive a more enjoyable.

dynamic tends to drain mpg so i always switch back to comfort

I got an email from support today saying that ADS steering and suspension would be added to beta next week. Huzzah! I don't understand the suspension option though since that requires specific hardware for it. I guess if you wanted to retro fit?

I would like to see the Individual option enabled as well so I can have dynamic steering on and comfort engine most of the time I would also like the car to remember the setting when I turn car on/off.

The "Individual" setting does work for me. However, it doesn't really make sense since only the engine/transmission setting is active right now. It also does remember the setting when I turn the car on/off. I have the MMI with navigation on a 2014 - maybe it's different if you do not?

Also very excited to see if the steering setting will work!

2012 is a B8. [race]
2013+ is 8.5

In Europe it's slightly different. Plus in Europe people don't usually quote the "model year" because nobody knows it; instead, they use the year of first registration. So it's entirely possible to have B8.5s registered in the latter half of 2012 :)

In any case, here are the steps to get into the hidden menu:
1. In Carista, go to CUSTOMIZE -> "Instruments / Display / Dings" -> "Hidden (green) menu in dash screen via holding CAR + SETUP (req. restart)" -> Set it to ENABLED, then SAVE.
2. In the MMI buttons in the center console, press and hold CAR + SETUP or CAR + MENU.

Btw, JeriQo, I'm in Seattle pretty often, so if you want we can meet up and develop some new settings on the spot for your car and/or confirm beta settings. In fact, it might be a good idea to set up a PNW meet with the Audi crew and play with customizations. If I have an ECU, a byte and a bit, I can add a setting to Carista on the fly with my laptop and test it right away.

Looking forward to the Carista official update tudor mentions above. I just received my Carista dongle via Amazon, so will activate it soon. Would like to try the ADS capabilities and hopefully disable (or tame down) the annoying wiper and washer defaults (after wipe and headlight spraying).

Go to http://www.caristaapp.com/ and read what is available for your car. Then read the last few pages for what they are working on now... or just read it all.

When you say the second step, do you mean the one that says "step 2 of 2"? We've heard similar feedback from others as well. What is the equipment level of your car? Just trying to find a pattern here for what cars fall into this category that throws a fault. Thanks.

Multimedia Interface. Every Audi has one, but depending on Year and features it could range from 2G to 3G to 3G +. And some features won't be available depending on the version. For example, I can't enable hidden menu as I have 2G.

ADS works with MMI 2G as well, as long as you have a navigation system in it. Also, it may work even without it if you enable the mode via key-specific default customizations. Those are available in the beta version of Carista currently.

I have had Driver Select enabled for about 8 months now via VCDS. and it never changed anything.

So i had used my Carista dongle to toggle it off and then back on. Let me tell ya, the steering is very stiff now and it made driving this car THAT much better.

Ive been using Carista since it first came out and i have never been disappointed.

Most customizations don't require an MMI. There are very few that do and they have to do with enabling the ability to control stuff through the MMI. So yes, most customizations will still work for you.

That would be step 1. Step 2 is about showing ADS in the MMI (byte 17, bit 7). We may rename them in a future update so that it's clearer for users who don't have an MMI. Please give it a try and let us know! In order to activate a specific mode (dynamic, comfort, etc) without an MMI, you'll need some additional settings (key-specific default mode) that are still in beta in Carista. If you're interested in giving them a try, please email [email protected] to be added to the beta. Thanks.

How do you clear the error message "headlight range control defective". I was playing with the ADS setting and turned it on. Disabling it doesn't work.
You can fix that by disabling the suspension options for ADS with Carista. If the error doesn't go away by itself after restarting the ignition, you should go into DIAGNOSE in Carista and reset all fault codes. That should do it. I am still confused on how to enable ADS engine and steering on my 2014 B8.5 Premium+ withOUT MMI... I am registered as a BETA user for Carista and I can see the ADS step 1 & 2 in the app as well as the individual system activation but that's as far as I get... according to the carista website I should be able to set the modes directly from the app since I do not have access to the hidden menu... Has anyone successfully gotten this to work? What am I missing?

Just got mine and did most of the mods i wanted to do (iOS app tho). honestly, super pleased with it.

it did 95% of what i wanted a vagcom for. and if i do the "pro" subscription, what $40 a year? so i can access codes etc anytime i want, the cost of the ross-tech mobile with 10 vins (seeing how this is unlimited vins) would be what, 10 years of Carista? (i'm only a mechanical engineer... math isn't my strong point hahaha).. $449 for a mobile ross-tech, 40 a year for this plus the original cost.... would be $40 + $40 X $10.

i'm pretty happy with that! I can't do long coding but honestly, if i need to i can rent a ross-tech from ebay or find a friend who has it or go to NGP.

now only if someone can come up with a cheap way to get a second key fob programmed....

In Europe it's slightly different. Plus in Europe people don't usually quote the "model year" because nobody knows it; instead, they use the year of first registration. So it's entirely possible to have B8.5s registered in the latter half of 2012 :)

In any case, here are the steps to get into the hidden menu:
1. In Carista, go to CUSTOMIZE -> "Instruments / Display / Dings" -> " -> Set it to ENABLED, then SAVE.
Hidden (green) menu in dash screen via holding CAR + SETUP (req. restart)"

Why i dont see this option?

Going into CUSTOMIZE with a B8 should take about 2min... or a little more with the beta, since there are more customizations. If it's taking 10-15min, there's definitely a problem, most likely with the adapter. I'm in contact with rdenivo over PM and we'll get this figured out.

If you have a non-MMI car (or MMI without navigation), then there's no hidden menu. We're still figuring out how to enable ADS in those cases. We have some settings in the beta, but they don't seem to work, so stay tuned for more info as we investigate this.

As far I know, you cant win with ads on non-mmi cars as no individual mode is available, only option is you need to shift between mode with vcds, carista or add button for that! Maybe double check with non mmi cars which have ads from factory, can they make changes under car menu in ads or not, if yes- probably tweak will be under radio adaptions!

Just tried out Carista yesterday with an Android tablet and it worked as expected. For timing to get to Customization menus was maybe 2-3 minutes, and this is an older Samsung Tab2 device. Desired options such as Hidden Menu and ADS turned on as expected, so I am pleased so far. I see that the Gear display (for auto trans) did not make it in this release, so that is the only disappointment so far. Need a VCDS perhaps to get there at this time, just like headlight wash frequency (do it less!).

In the instrument cluster, with the auto trans you will see a "D" for Drive, or "S" if you pull the gear selector back for Sport mode. When you push the lever to the right, you get "M" for Manual mode, however you see the actual gear number you are in, so M2, M3, M4, M5 etc.

The capability to see the gear number for "D" or "S" mode is what I would like. Even my 2006 Jetta 2.5 shows me the gear number in the instrument cluster!

Has the same adapter worked with Carista before? There are many generic adapters out there that work fine with standard OBD2 apps (practically, all other apps besides Carista), but when Carista attempts to use additional ELM327 features in order to communicate via VAG-specific protocols, those adapters fail. Carista is usually able to detect that situation and show a "defective adapter" message. Are you getting such a message? If not, then your adapter is probably fine. Just make sure no other app is trying to connect to it at the same time in the background, unplug it and replug it, and make sure it's firmly plugged into the OBD port and not just hanging partly loose. It may also help to turn Bluetooth off and back on on your phone.

Hmm, that's weird. If you go into DIAGNOSE in Carista, does it work? If so, after it's done loading, open the slide-out menu from the left of the screen and use "Report a problem" so we can see what's going on with the communication with the car.

We have certainly NOT done anything in the app to disable the ability to use third-party adapters. In fact, we're working on expanding the range of supported third-party adapters: we're adding Kiwi 3 on both Android and iOS, WiFi adapters on Android, and we've improved our compatibility with BAFX adapters. We're also in talks with OBDLink, but their devices still do not support the full ELM327 v1.4 spec, which is required for our manufacturer-specific communication.

so in example it would say D1,D2,D3 etc? i kinda like that. it would be funny to see how annoying these ZF8 trannys are with up shifting and downshifting so damn much.

i wanted the gear display and saw on the forum that it was available in beta a couple of years ago. contacted carista and they said i could try it in beta. they hooked me up with the beta app. it took longer to register, guessing it had a lot more to read. maybe 6-7 minutes. the gear display option was there with a warning that it might not work, and if it didn't, to try again. it failed the first time for me, but then worked on the second. there are some other items to try, but i already got what i wanted from the standard app (oil temp, windows down, etc..). the gents at carista were quite responsive and helpful. they clearly want to improve their product. they did tell me the issue with the gear display is that this is controlled by the transmission ecu, and so there is a timing issue and that is why it fails some times. they want it to be more robust before releasing in regular version. not sure how they can get there though.

question about enabling aux ventilation:

is this for cold or hot weather? and what does happen exactly?

I love being able to increase the brightness of the cool LED daytime lights. I'll probably end up using those instead of the regular headlights when its not completely dark out.

I'll try and look thru the new release tomorrow and see what made the cut. Footwell lighting was just under the lighting section. Aux ventilation may not have made the cut either. It allowed you to set a time when the fan would come on to circulate the air in the car to help cool it down. I had mine set to come on 10 minutes before I got off work. Unfortunately most of the hot days had passed by the time I had tried it. I disliked you couldn't set it on a repetitive calendar and it wasn't worth the time to set it daily when I can roll down my windows from my office. As a side bug I also lost the function of the MMI displaying changes in fan, temp and heated seats.
It was worth it for me just for the sunroof closing function, I always forget to close it.

i set up the ventilation thing on my car using this app, it didnt work and now i have lost my "AC" option on MMI 2g high, so now i cant turn on supplement heat as the menu has now completely dissapeared

Edit:

Also when i change temperatures etc it doesnt show up in the center screen any more

any ideas on how to sort this out?[headbang]

Hi, yes, we removed that option from the beta and didn't put it in the final release version exactly for that reason - because we got some reports that there were issues with it, and overall because we didn't get enough test feedback on it with the beta. It will be reintroduced when we start the next beta period and I'd appreciate everyone's detailed feedback on it.

But to fix your specific problem right now, please PM me or email us at [email protected] and we'll help you restore the old setting values. Sorry about the trouble.

Btw, the situation with the footwell/ambient lights is similar - the setting didn't work on any cars we tried it on, so we removed it from the beta. The whole point of the beta is to experiment with new settings and confirm that they work before we put them in the public release version of the app. So we really need your feedback when something is or isn't working. Thanks.

are issues sorted out on this aux ventilation?

any thoughts? am i just being crazy and not remembering them being on with the headlights?

I've check all of the settings in carista but can't figure it out. what am i missing haha

Hey guys,

Todor and I figured it out. He is fixing the wording in the app now. One of the settings says "side marker" when it should say "signal lights". this feature (from what i've been told from other users) is called "CITY LIGHTS", but don't quote me as i'm not 100% sure on if that's true.

byte 10, bit 0 = "use front side marker lights as parking lights" in Carista. THIS SHOULD SAY SIGNAL LIGHTS, not side marker lights

byte 2, bit 6 = "Use side marker lights as daytime running lights" in Carista. THIS IS CORRECT.

Todor asked me to update this thread as he doesn't get on here as much as he used to.

Rofl. I didn’t even see your question.

So I assume that you figured it out?

If not, there’s a thread around here somewhere about it. Shoot me a pm and I’ll try to find it if you still need it.

I JUST put the beta onto my phone and turned aux vent. It will be nice to have for my dog in the summer to get some of the hotter air out and have the (still hot) outside air come in. Good for him for the initial entry into the car tho, until the AC ac gets a chance to circulate after I turn the car on.

I MAY buy an aux heater and install it for the winter. That would be a nice to have tho. Originally being from upstate New York, nothing a coat and some gloves won’t help with haha.

Leaving mine on as running lights as I'm going to be getting clear diffusers and amber LED. Want to make sure I still pass inspections. As long as they are amber (light or actual reflector) they usually pass it. Know because I did this in my S2k in New York State.

If I remember correctly, you have to enable some stuff in the hidden menu in order to get the brightness menu to show up in the MMI (after enabling footwell lights with Carista). See this page: http://www.audienthusiasts.com/VagComINLight.html

I received the following in email from Todor a few days back. I tried this quickly but haven't noticed a difference and I was missing the "Steering Stiffness" option. I need to try it again and make sure I set everything correctly...

"We are actively working on the ADS settings for non-MMI cars and we do have something for you to try as of a couple of days ago: get the latest beta version of Carista and set the following things:

Default ADS (Audi Drive Select) mode with key fob 1, 2 and 3 should be set to DYNAMIC

ADS mode settings should have the following values for pre facelift models:

individual - ENABLED
comfort - ENABLED
automatic - DISABLED
dynamic - DISABLED
offroad- DISABLED
efficiency - DISABLED
race – DISABLED

Facelift models:

individual - DISABLED
comfort - ENABLED
automatic - ENABLED
dynamic - ENABLED
offroad- DISABLED
efficiency - ENABLED
race – DISABLED

Steering stiffness controlled by ADS: YES

This should effectively put your car in Dynamic mode (don't mind the fact that "ADS mode: dynamic" is disabled, it has to be that way with this version of Carista).

You should notice a difference in the throttle response and steering stiffness/ratio.

Please let me know how it goes with the ADS stuff. Thanks!

OK so for the Allroad I did the following -
In the Carista app set "Allow configuring footwell lights" to YES.

Follow the steps http://www.audienthusiasts.com/VagComINLight.html where it says To get into the hidden menu in the MMI hold down the Car and Setup.

If you have a b8.5 theres the extra step at the end: "In the hidden menu select car>carbusassignment> interior lighting *change from unassigned to "[CAN Komfort] 1/9"

I have the 2g so my setup says "Interior lighting" not “Ambiance Lighting” option or "Background Lighting" (dependant on version) .

We know how much you wanted it - so we added it. Now you can enable (or disable) the "Park distance visualization" on all Audi B8s (A4, S4, RS4, A5, S5, RS5, Q5, SQ5 between 2008 and 2017), that are equipped with the proper hardware.

If you have factory parking sensors, you should see a customization called "Park distance visualization (if equipped)" under the "Instruments / Display / Dings" category. If you don't see it, then your car probably doesn't have the PDC module.

I'm not 100% sure what the correlation is, but you can find out if you have the module with Carista by going into DIAGNOSE, then "DETAILED INFO" and looking for a module called "Parking/steering assist". If you have that module and you're still not seeing the PDC visualization setting under CUSTOMIZE, then please open the slide-out menu from the left and use "Report a problem" and we'll investigate. Make sure you do that after already having gone into CUSTOMIZE and having waited for it to load. Thanks.
