Hey y'all, i was hoping to get insight on my timing belt install.
I always wanted a B5 S4 Avant, and after looking for a few years i finally found one. I figured before i start having some fun i should make sure the timing belt is good to go
Ive got the cam lock tool (pretty sweet device, i wish they made one for subarus) for which i used and lined up everything at TDC, put the cam lock bar on. Prior to taking the belt off, i also marked the cam sprockets as well as the timing belt with several marks at two different areas. I then transferred the marks to the new timing belt, then put the new timing belt on according to the existing marks on the cam sprockets and crank sprockets. Everything lined up great, finished the install and turned the crank over a few times to confirm my timing was still correct. I turned the crank twice, put cam bar on, lines up perfect. Did it again and again and again. Perfect.
Now for the question - after turning the crank 2 revs none of my original marks on the belt line back up with any of the sprockets. Now i realize there is a difference in # of teeth between the the left and right cam sprockets, the right bank cam sprocket and crank sprocket, and back from the crank sprocket to the left sprocket. So, it should make sense that my marks will probably not match back up to those original marks until the crank is turned XXX number of times and it all works out again. Like i said, the crank is at TDC and the cam bar fits great.
So, could someone just confirm that i am indeed properly timed since everytime i match up to TDC and the cam bar slides on perfectly?
Thanks guys!
