The camera got a RCA (yellow) for the image and a 12v+ wire.
- rca to the video input from the xtrons
- 12v+ to the backup light from the car.
- you'll need to make a little hole in the license plate OEM light to get the wire through. And if you have an avant, good luck.
do you have a complete assembly with the integrated cam, or a cam in the light bulb socket?
cam should be use as a quick initial scan for people/animals/object. Not for backuping, hate seeing retards in cheap ass hyundai taking 2 minutes to get out a parking spot because they are looking in front.... If you people dont have xxxx hours of trucker training, please look back in reverse [evilsmile] lol sorry for the offtopic [>_<]
Lol I hit someone’s car last week and I didn’t see it in my rear mirror or side mirror so I got a licence plate light cam that comes with wires I’m pretty good with wiring it’s just a don’t know where I have to tap for power

Do the Xtrons units on amazon ship from china too? It's a bit cheaper on ebay for some reason. Is the Xtron still the recommended or should I just get one of the other units that has the same specs and looks the same but are cheaper? There are some similar models that are about $50 or maybe a bit more cheaper.

there's a large variation of specs among similar looking Android based HUs. Having run a few diff ones, here's what I'd recommend looking at:
* style: RNS-E clone, Symphony II+ clone, or full touchscreen
* SoC: PX6 (fastest), PX5, MTK
* MCU: MTC* (lots of support for custom Android builds) or STM (zero support)
then consider:
- almost all of the units will exhibit background/amp noise; you'll need to use a line-level adapter on the speaker outputs to feed the amp inputs (4 or 2-ch depending on Bose or non - $20/$10).
- some units come with a decent antenna adapter, some don't ($10)
- most units require an adapter to use the factory GPS antenna ($10)
- some units have built-in Android Audio / Apple CarPlay, some don't (external adapters run around $70?)
If you're looking for a fully plug/play setup, these units aren't quite it, but probably as close as they come. knowing what to expect / what's needed is half the battle
FWIW, I use a full touchscreen unit with PX6 SoC and MTCE MCU

I have the Xtrons unit in my RS and I've had the others and the Xtrons are better built. Now what do I have, i have the PX5 Octa Core 32gb 4gb ram, the radio is by far better than the gen 1 versions for sure, better sound and better at picking up signals and I think the signal part is because you dont need adapters. GPS will need an adapter but the arial that comes with it works fine if you dont have adapters.
Software go to XDA they will have loads of info and custom firmware and some of them also update over the air when the programmer updates his firmware which is way better then stock firmware.
Suppressor will be needed but ones done no issues.
If you need more storage get your self a SSD drive with caddy (I run a 250gb SSD) and the unit will pick it up a d you can have movies music to your heart content.

hi, i have the same xtrons unit, i also think its a great headunit for the price.
i have read and searched and have not found a straight solution for my issue.
i also have low volume rear audio, i yave sound, but its very low. i can balance it with fader but audio quality is still very low, nowhere near stock.
i have the rns-e originally, i connected the cars loom plug straight to xtrons, no adapters what so ever, nothing else, antenna plugs straight forward and xtrons wifi and gps antennas. i dont have bose, rears are amplified.
everything works well, apart the audio.
what do i need to do to make it work, i have not istalled any xda audio mods (yet) since i believe the issue needs to be fixed first, many have good audio out of the box. it kinda sounds mono, low amplified. do i need some kind of converter? or is the amp wire pinned in the wrong place? i have both radios diagrams and can take pics of my loom plug if needed.
thank you!

You need a speaker to RCA converter for the rears and the one in the picture has a gain control to allow you to adjust the signal and this should fix the issue, just cut the rear speaker wires on the init and run this to the looms RCA's running to the car loom.

Xtrons speaker out and at the Xtrons plug to the car harness there is so RCA's plug them in to the box.
This box allows you to adjust the volume gains for the amp, the issue is both Bose and none Bose cars have amps but each requires a different volume input and I think now Xtrons have set the units up for Bose cars which require lower gains than none Bose cars.

right, now i get it, i was wondering where did the rcas came from.
ok, i will get the converter and hope thats it, fingers crossed. i dont have the exact one available here but i do have other converters, should do the job also right.
so the difference in level input to the amp affects its output. i hope it restores the quality!

the issue is a voltage mismatch between what the Xtrons (and most/all aftermarket units) put out on their pre-outs vs what the stock HU does / stock amp expects. A line-level converter with gain adjustment will 100% solve the issue.

no it does not need power. the one you linked looks fine as well (and doesn't need power either).

ok, i bought the one i linked.
my xtrons loom with the rcas only have FL out and FR out, i dont have RR and RL at all.
i connected it to the FL and FR ones just to try at least, from there, rcas to the converter, which reads line out. cut the rear speaker wires, and connected the open adapters wires to the cut wires, connected to speakers.
is this correct?
damn, what am i missing here...

you don't use the RCA outputs from the Xtrons unit. You use the (rear) speaker level outputs, connected to the level converter, which connects to the RCAs on the quadlock connector (which feed the stock amp)

rear speaker wires coming from the hu need to be connected to the adapters line in wires? and from the output rcas, having a rca connector, and the other side (of the rca wire) bare wires ends, connected to the wires going to rear speakers?
docurleys pic shows rcas in the adapter and also a pair in the background, where do these connect to?
i have stock quadlock plug, there is no rcas there, rear speaker cables from the green plug thats inside the stock quadlock plug.
i dont have that loom that has rcas at all, my stock quadlock plug goes straight into the headunit.
i got the adapter wire with the unit that converts i think symphony or something like that to quadlock, but no rcas what so ever...
Matt Devo

docurleys pic shows rcas in the adapter and also a pair in the background, where do these connect to?
he has 2 adapters, since Bose setup sends all 4 to the amp in the rear. A non-bose setup only needs the rears "fixed"
https://xtrons.com/media/catalog/product/cache/5306026c03115e323ad4d973c1215542/p/r/pr88a4al-6.jpg
the connector on the far left is the one you are using, correct? The RCAs there are what feed the stock amp. Normally you would connect to the RCA plugs from the breakout assembly on the far right.
What you need to do is instead, connect the speaker level inputs to the converter, then the output of the converter to the RCAs on the harness on the stock left. The RCA breakout on the right is not used.

both upper left harnesses, i dont use, since my stock quadlock fits direct

then you either need to cut the factory harness, or use a quadlock extension and modify that to work with the level converter.

i did already cut the factory harness and soldered the rears from the green plug to the converter input, grounds are connected together, just thinking how should i connect the rca out to the bare wires going to the speakers...
thats why i did not understand what should i connect where, i didnt have that harness at all.

soldering? not ideal, but ok.
get some RCA cables and cut them, splice grounds together, then connect to factory RL+, RR+, and GND wires to amp (pins C5, C11, C8 respectively). connect to outputs of level converter
threadwear572
10-22-2019, 12:48 PM
yea i know, not ideal, i didnt have good crimp connectors, i will redo it, difficult to connect theam neatly, the stock wires are very thin and the adapter ones much beefier.
yes, i will do that. so no need for +12v and ground for the box itself?
anyway, the adapter comes between the cut factory wires.
from factory quadlock to adapter and from adapter to speakers right?
when i cut the factory wires, the other ends remain in the pins mentioned
-edit-
now i tryed all that, didnt work haha.
back to basics, xtrons rear speaker outputs from the head unit are located differently,
i will try again tomorrow, from the correct outputs, at least the wiring diagram sticker on the xtrons shows that rears come from the same plug as the fronts, stock rns-e has them completely in a different plug (the green one)
am i the first one installing that particular head unit?

you're misreading the wiring. The Xtrons unit you have has to use the same pinout as the RNS-E, else things wouldn't work.
the rear speaker level outputs are on connector A, pins 1/4/5/8. Connect those to the inputs of the converter, and the outputs of the converter to pins C 5/11/8 as I previously noted. Now, you're going to have an issue since the stock wiring has no pins/wires on A 1/4/5/8, due to them not being used (the rear speakers are always amplified / the rear line-level outputs are always used). So you can either add the necessary pins/wires, or use the fronts instead (and tap into vs cutting completely) and lose fader control.
I actually tested a HU like this that had direct quadlock connection, and sent it back over this issue since it left me no good options to wire in a level converter
threadwear572
10-22-2019, 09:49 PM
yes, that appears to be the case.
i treated the line-level outputs as they were speaker outputs, thats wrong.
i will get the pins and try to wire it correctly later, and see what happens.
thank you very much for the help, much appreciated!
i will get back after some progress.

haha, yeah docurley, i cant stand stuff not working.
now, the line converter works and rear speakers have proper sound, but, only with the converter having GND and +12v, it doesnt work without power. but its ok, i have it wired up now.
in a weird way when checking channels with fader, i have lost front right speaker, the tweetwr works and even the dah speaker works (have you normally disabled that one?) but not the midbass, need to take the card off and check whats going on, since it should be connected to the tweeter so that means the signal is coming inside the door (i have aftermarked speakers btw)
head unit has pretty bad background buzz when the acc is on or any of the lights, interior/exterior comes on. at least with the acc on.
fm radio still has pretty low quality, music from apps and other external sources is much better, weird.
thank you guys very much, for guiding me in the right direction!
especially docurley and Matt Devo! thank you

Hmm I hope I don't have your problems....lol ..
I just want android auto and it to not look jank installed like an aftermarket HU. Also decent SQ would be nice.
My car has the older Symphony II setup and not an RNS-E, am I going to have problems connecting the Xtrons unit? I thought it had connections for both setups.

well i dont mind that i had to cut the original harness, i would have done it if i knew that before buying the unit, i was just new to all that line converter stuff. im still happy i went to that route. yours is propably easyer to install.
it looks decent when installed, its an important thing for me too, im not a fan of the chrome knobs and glare screen but its not that bad, its still the best oem looking unit i guess. im looking to get anti glare film on it.

either way, the same hookup needs to be made using a line-level adapter - only difference is if the connector on the factory side is the older ISO-style or newer quadlock type
Hdale85
10-24-2019, 02:56 AM
I think the guy I got the car from included a quad lock adapter anyways. I think it's in a box in the garage.
The HU I bought is coming with a scosche line level adapter. Maybe I should buy the PAC adapter instead lol.
Hdale85
10-24-2019, 10:13 AM
Ok just to make sure, I'm using the older style harness not the quadlock. On this harness the speaker wires run into the OEM plug, then I also have the E harness connected with the RCA outputs going into the RCA's on the factory harness which I'm guessing goes to the OEM amp. The sound does work but it doesn't get very loud.
Now I do have a scosche line level converter, this should fix that correct? I just need to cut the high level speaker outputs and connect them to the inputs of the scosche, then connect the RCA connections from the factory integration harness to the scosche outputs and still use the E harness for the amp turn on?
Hdale85
10-24-2019, 10:15 AM
Oh also my antenna connector is COMPLETLY different than the newer style. And there's a yellow fakra connector us that for GPS? Or something else.

Well I cut the white grey purple and green wires from the harness and wired it into the line output converter and now the head unit won't even turn on.....
look the connections, it makes almost no sens. Those outputs can take a large amount of resistance. let say bellow 2ohms, the amp will cut, over 2ohms it will work.
basically those converters are adjustable resistance that lower the voltage input on the OEM amplifier.
even a short should not damage the headunit, the amp yes, but not the head unit. despite the fact that those cheap android unit can be full of surprise...
But what was your issue at 1st for using output converter ? Non-bose sound level issue ? static noise?
Hdale85
10-24-2019, 01:32 PM
It wasn't very loud and sound wasn't great and I don't think rear speakers were hardly working so yeah likely. It's just weird that with those wires cut it won't turn on now....
Hdale85
10-24-2019, 01:36 PM
And yeah it didn't make any sense to me either, I even checked the fuses and everything looks fine, even changed them with new ones just in case.
Hdale85
10-24-2019, 02:56 PM
Well, I'm still not sure what's going on. I'm wondering if the normal grand maybe isn't connected right or something. I'm going to test it and if that seems fine I'm going to re-attach the wires and see if it starts working then.
Hdale85
10-24-2019, 03:30 PM
Well it's still not turning on, the 12v and ground are both fine, what looks like the accessory wire gets 12v as well so I think something is wrong with this head unit, which is strange. It was working, I disconnected it from the car, cut those wires, wired up the line level converter and plugged it back in and nothing.
Hdale85
10-24-2019, 04:45 PM
Ok tinkering some more, there is good ground and 12v but I noticed the accessory wire wasn't getting power or something, which that wire comes from the canbus translation module. I reconnected the symphony 2 HU and sure enough it's not working either...... Not sure what's going on here. Running through fuses again and I can't find anything that's not good.

10-24-2019, 05:46 PM
False alarm stock radio works fine. The faceplate was a but loose and after snugging it up works as it should. The Android unit I'm not sure. It seems it gets it's accessory connection from the canbus decoder module so kinda wondering if that module just died on me.

just jumper 12v constant and the 12v accessory pin for the time being as a sanity check

Well jumped the accessory to the 12v and sure enough boots right up. I think I'm sending this unit back to the seller. He put in the listing it was the 4gb with 64gb storage but it's actually the older android 8 32gb model. Think I'm going to send it back and get a PX6 model with DSP. I don't know if this one would of sounded much better with the line output converter installed but it really didn't sound great, would up the upgraded DSP/amp setup would sound better. Or maybe I need to get one with a digital output and just plan on running an external DSP or something.

just overall level of customization of UI, plus some system settings. Hackers gonna hack, ya know?
Guessing the XDA ones that have custom software available are PX5 units?
not a SoC issue, as both the PX5 and PX6 are supported -- it's a MCU issue. The STM32 MCU based devices are not, whereas the MTC (MTCB/D/E) devices are

in my case, i only have background buzzing noise, when the volume is set to at least 1, and only when the original fm radio dual fakra plug is connected, i take it off, no buzz whatsoever. and, of course the fm quality is low, but only fm radio, all other apps, youtube, soundcloud, di.fm, everything is pretty good i would say.
have you used some other aftermarket fm antennas? or have found what makes the antenna buzz?
any idea is it possible to remove the knobs in one of these? without removing the front plate?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/202781681552 -- used best offer feature.
Some notes on the unit:
- needs anti-glare screen protector, else unusable in direct sunlight (true of all these 8" / full touchscreen units)
- background noise unless hi/low converter used for amp pre-outs (ditto)
- both front/rear amp pre-outs wired to use same signal, need to re-wire for Bose amp
- no AA/Carplay function built-in, need to use dongle ($35) or AA emulator app ($5)
- built-in mic isn't ideal, recommend use external one (1/8" jack connector)

do you use some custom roms, equalizers, any mods?

well, some of these units only have a single set of line level outputs (for the front). The issue seems to be mostly when connecting to the factory amp, and related to grounding. An aftermarket amp may very well not have the same issue. I have an Alpine PDX-v9 here I need to wire up, just been lazy about it.

I just ordered this one: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000091296308.html (PX6 4GB/64GB option) which has the MTCE MCU (so it can run custom Android builds, and custom MCU with adjusted EQ params) as well as built-in AA/CarPlay. Arrives Mon so will have some more feedback on it then.

Hmm Matt, for some reason the screen and what not look nicer on that unit. I wonder what resolution it's running as they don't mention it from what I saw. Definitely interested in your thoughts and some pics of the real thing lol. No HDMI out on that one, or digital connections it looks like.

I have a pair of JL C1-650's on the way, a kicker 10" free air compatible sub, and a kenwood 600w micro amp for the sub. Going to add the 4 channel matching amp later for the speakers but for now going to run off deck power. I also ordered the PAC line out converter you showed before, they are super cheap lol. I'm still working on the head unit. The one you ordered from before they won't do $220 now apparently. I'm going to attempt to mount the kicker sub to the same location the stock sub is mounted, we will see how it sounds. Mostly concerned output will be too low but we'll see. I may have to add a second one or just build a box for a different sub.

Why won't they put upgraded screens in them? Hell I'd even be happier at 1280x800 lol but I'm not sure why they couldn't put a 1920x1080p screen in them. They should have plenty of power for that.

cost I'd guess, and availability of panels. I'm sure one could replace the display with a higher res one, if so inclined. These units disassemble pretty easily

I doubt there aren't better options available, the LCD panel market is HUGE there are so many options.
I think I'm just going to wait for your thoughts on that model from aliexpress as it seems to be a lot nicer value, has the android auto and everything built in, plus can use third part firmware and such. Honestly the price difference isn't that much since they won't take less than 229 now for the other one. Also it has 64gb of storage instead of 32gb.

so a few initial impressions on the new unit:
- background noise when using line-level outputs directly is worse than other unit. Haven't tried using line-level adapter yet.
- overall SQ is better, likely due to the fact that the 9-band EQ actually works
- unlike other unit, has annoying "unit is shutting down" message when removing key from ignition
- is larger and deeper than other unit, leaving less room for adapters/harnesses etc. was a bit difficult to fit in place
- wifi performance is garbage (same as other unit), despite having small external antenna
- ODB Eleven won't connect to dongle despite pairing/connecting properly in BT settings
- "Integrated" CarPlay/Android Auto functionality is just a cheap dongle removed from shell and hot-glued to inside of chassis. Background noise far worse when phone *not* connected to dongle, implying it's not properly grounded (shocker, I know)
- shipped software is pretty outdated - MCU from 12/2018, Android build from 06/2019 (and security level from 04/2019)
will see how it sounds when I wire in the line-level converter later today. Not that there's room for it, but useful diagnostically at least

which part(s)?

well, the issue is likely with noise on the common ground for the line-level outputs, since a line-level converter does indeed resolve the problem. The quick/dirty thing to try would be to ground that pint to the chassis directly - I'll see about doing that later today
Hdale85
11-05-2019, 11:45 AM
Well generally most line level converters have noise isolation circuits built in as well which I think is likely what most people are using them for with these units.
As for the issues being fixed with a firmware, the OBDEleven stuff, the shutting down message, etc I feel like a lot of that might be fixable in firmware.

sorry, it's taken me some time to write everything up. Wanted to give a good overview of the 8" / full touchscreen units I've tested so far.
All units have a lot of commonality:
8" full touchscreen with capacitive buttons for power, home, volume (and either Nav or back)
Android 9.0 OS
support radio (no HD or SAT), BT phone/media, multiple inputs (reverse + front camera)
support steering wheel contols (work out of box, can be customized/remapped)
integrated Wifi (802.11n 2.4GHz) and BT (limited to handsfree, A2DP, and ODB functionality. ODB Eleven may or may not work)
1024x600 high-gloss screen (exacerbated by gap between LCD and touch digitizer)
horrible noise on line-level outputs, requiring use of line-level converter(s)
As for the differences between units
ZBARK YHAPX501 (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000169204107.html) (edit: unit appear to be the same XTRONS now selling, model IB89A4APL)
Specs: PX5 SoC, MTCE MCU. 4GB RAM/64GB eMMC flash
Pros:
MTCE MCU -> can run custom Android OS
Has Audi-specific connectors - no adapter harnesses needed (except to use factory GPS antenna)
Compact unit, lots of space behind
Cons:
PX5 now older generation
Built-in quadlock connector means slightly difficult to wire in line-level adapters
No DSP -> meh sound quality (can be improved with modified MCU firmware)
Has Nav (vs back) capacitive button, less useful IMO (can be remapped though)
Erisin ES6274A (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000244106970.html)
Specs: PX6 SoC, STM32 MCU. 4GB RAM/32GB eMMC flash
Pros:
PX6 latest generation SoC, quite speedy
Price - a good bit cheaper than other units
Compact unit, lots of space behind
HDMI output
Cons:
STM32 MCU -> can't run custom Android OS
Wifi antenna is a single 2" wire
No rear line-level outputs, so extra rewiring needed for Bose systems
No DSP -> meh sound quality, EQ app does some weird shit (apparently it's a fake EQ)
No removal tools included
Antenna adapter single fakra, non-amplified
track prev/next steering wheel controls didn't seem to work with 3rd party Android Auto dongle
doesn't appear to have a sleep/low power mode; only option is to delay shutdown (up to 1hr). So long boot (15s) on startup after 1hr
CarExc (no model #) (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000091296308.html)
Specs: PX6 SoC, MTCE MCU. 4GB RAM/64GB eMMC flash (other SoC/RAM/eMMC configs available - avoid older MTK/PX5 versions)
Pros:
PX6 latest generation SoC, quite speedy
MTCE MCU -> can run custom Android OS
Has DSP, fairly decent sound quality once tweaked (best of 3 by far)
Built-in CarPlay/Android Auto functionality (wired or wireless) works better than an external dongle
sleep mode works properly
OBD Eleven works
Cons:
Large chassis with lots of wasted space, makes fitting wiring harnesses/adapters a bit of a pain
Wifi antenna was badly soldered / shorted, terrible SQ until I fixed it (only 1 of 10 units I've had seems affected)
Antenna adapter double-single fakra, not keyed to fit stock antenna connector (fixed in subsequent shipments)
cost: unit is $400, a bit higher than other two
edit: this unit now comes in a 9" / no bezel version: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000558329933.html
All of the units required some tweaking:
Added an anti-glare screen protector, cut to fit (217mm x 117mm) [Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0169SB4MY)]
Wired in line-level converters to speaker outputs [Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001NCDAXI)] (desolder included wires / solder wires from unit)
Added a dual fakra antenna adapter [Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M4MODFM)] (cut tab to fit stock connector)
Added a SMC to fakra adapter to use factory GPS antenna [Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MY6ZX6L)]
Users with an older Symphony II radio will need a additional FAKRA antenna adapter (https://www.discountcarstereo.com/baa51a.html)
Taking all of that into consideration, I'm sticking with the CarExc model due to PX6, DSP, and ability to run custom Android OS. If there was another unit available with same specs but a more compact chassis or better screen I'd switch to that, but right now I'm not seeing anything better.
I'm still waiting on my reverse camera trunk handle, but already wired one into my wife's old A3 prior to selling and it worked reasonably well -- better than no camera for sure.

I actually just installed the Erisin unit in my buddy's non-Bose B6 today, and the sound was much better than in my RS4 w/Bose. So I'd probably be ok recommending it for non-Bose systems (or ones using an external amp), esp given how cheap it is ($225 shipped on ebay)

2008 A4 B7 with BOSE, after-market XTRONS Android HU. Like many members, I have been living with humming noise, especially with lights on. I even tried PAC SNI-1 loop filter, which did nothing. Decide to give another try with PAC SNI-35 Hi-Lo converter. Find eight wires of amp output FL+/-, FR+/-, RL+/-, RR+/-; connect +/- wires to SNI-35; connect quad-lock RCAs to SNI-35, instead of ones on GREEN circle.
Get BOSE quality back, even with lights one!

one would need to write an Android app/service to monitor the application being used for audio and try to extract the metadata, then reformat it and output it on the CAN bus. Not impossible, but a tall order

Some initial feedback (no pun intended) from a B7 RS4 owner who just installed the XTRONS model IB89A4APL:
Install was a complete breeze with no trimming needed; I did buy a fakra to coax adapter to use the factory GPS antenna, but I did encounter the dreaded feedback hum. I took my chance on this unit specifically because it seemed so focused around replacing the RNS-E and its quad lock connector, and I didn't want to deal with splicing or modifying the factory harness. With this goal still in mind, I ordered up a quad lock 40 pin extension harness which I intend to splice a Schosche SLC4 into. This has multiple benefits of a: not requiring car yoga to install the SLC4, preserves the factory wiring loom, and allows me to go back to the RNS-E if I ever choose to. I'll document the results once all the ancillary parts are in. Aside from the added cost and time to solve this line level issue, I have been enjoying having a 21st century infotainment system in my car.

XTRONS sells a quadlock extension harness with hi/low converters integrated specifically to mitigate this issue. If you bought your unit from them (vs a reseller), they'll likely give it to you for free if you're persistent enough.

damn I wish I saw that, I never saw it on their accessory page. Bought the unit from them via Amazon (shipped direct from their address in HK and arrived in 2 days!) And NOW I see the connector on their site. It really should be thrown in as standard. Would have made the experience 5 stars all around. Curious though, on the RNS-E with Bose, the pin-out only shows a FR and FL channel, and I know that the Bose amp receives signal from these for the rear speakers... This would mean that for this specific application you would only need (one) two channel HLC. Am I understanding this correctly?
xtrons.com has the one I want for $100 more than the same one on amazon from xtrons. That makes no sense.

you're looking at the wrong connector. The RNS-E (and SII/II+) has FR/FL speaker level outputs (connector A), since for a non-Bose system it powers the fronts/center. But it also has FR, FL, RR, RL line-level outputs to feed the amp (connector C). With the Bose system, all 4 are used (and the speaker level outputs are not); for non-Bose, only the rears are used (since the HU powers the fronts).
So for a Bose system, either two 2-ch line-level adapters are needed, or one 4-ch.

the anti glare film makes a big difference. i took the whole screen out to install it properly.
if only there was a smart way to get the knobs matte black i would be more satisfied.
i couldnt get the knobs off, even when i had the front panel disassembled. didnt want to use too much force so i let it be for now. actually even cooler would be swapping the rnse knobs.
does the original gps sensor work better than the chinese one? assuming using an fakra gps adapter?
now to get it rooted/custom rommed too!
Where did you purchase this one? Looks great. Thanks!

Got it. Last question I promise. I have a Scosche SLC4 that I will wire into the extender, I chose it because it has the most flexible options. I am seeing a pin for each: FR FL RR RL (+) for the line level outputs but only a single line level (-) pin. I'd run the SLC4 in Common Ground mode and only run the 4 (+) wires through it, while leaving the ground lead untouched, correct? I intend to ground the SLC4 itself to the chassis as well. Thanks for all the help.

looking at the instructions, I don't see an ideal way to utilize that adapter, but might be worth asking Scosche directly. If the negative outputs on the B terminals are derived from a common source, then you could just connect one of them. Personally, I'd just get the XTRONS adapter since everything is wired in correctly. Might should arrive tomorrow with the adapter so I'll let you know how it goes

damn I wish I saw that, I never saw it on their accessory page. Am I understanding this correctly?
just got my unit, and sadly XTRONS harness with line-level adapters do not eliminate the noise on this unit (and it's not the line-level adapters themselves, as I wired in my own to check). They knock it down about 50%, but it's still very noticeable, and completely unacceptable, esp when other units like the CarExc one have zero noise (w/LL adapters)

the exact same ones that I'm successfully using with the CarExc brand unit and have zero noise on that one. So that's 0/2 counting the XTRONS supplied ones as well. I doubt it's the LL adapters

Before I was even able to wire in my SLC4, the XTrons unit catastrophically failed yesterday morning. The unit appears to have frozen, literally. Was up in the white mountains snowboarding and yesterday morning in 5*F weather I started the car, the unit turned on and immediately went black. There is still power to the LED's and the RNS-E still works when I swapped it back in. Its internal to the unit as no fuses have blown. Calling in a warranty claim and seeing how they treat me...

sorry, it's taken me some time to write everything up.
CarExc (no model #) (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000091296308.htmll)
Specs: PX6 SoC, MTCE MCU. 4GB RAM/64GB eMMC flash (other SoC/RAM/eMMC configs available - avoid older MTK/PX5 versions)
Pros:
PX6 latest generation SoC, quite speedy
MTCE MCU -> can run custom Android OS
Has DSP, fairly decent sound quality once tweaked (best of 3 by far)
Built-in CarPlay/Android Auto functionality (wired or wireless)
sleep mode works properly
OBD Eleven works
Cons:
"Built-in" CarPlay/AA functionality is just a USB dongle glued to inside of chassis. would prefer lower cost and just buy dongle separately
Large chassis with lots of wasted space, makes fitting wiring harnesses/adapters a bit of a pain
Wifi antenna was badly soldered / shorted, terrible SQ until I fixed it
Antenna adapter double-single fakra, not keyed to fit stock antenna connector (fixed in subsequent shipments)
cost: unit is $350, a bit higher than other two
edit: this unit now comes in a 9" / no bezel version: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000558329933.html

For Bose, you'd need 2 converters, front and rear. For non-Bose, just need 1 for the rear. You can use wire taps, cut/splice, or what I did was de-pin the connector and solder directly to the converters

Hey all, great info in this thread. Really wanting to update my RNS-E/Bose system ASAP. There are two options I find really interesting...
Has anyone tried running either the Alpine ILX-F259 or the ILX-F309?https://www.alpine-usa.com/uploads/f1cbc327bc6752ee229192bf8915bcbe
Link to ILX-F309: https://www.alpine-usa.com/product/alpine-halo9-radio-apple-carplay-android-auto-ilx-f309
Link to ILX-F259: https://www.alpine-usa.com/product/alpine-halo9-apple-carplay-android-auto--ilx-f259
Please post pics if you try the alpine, I've kind of been toying with that idea as well lol. My only gripe with it is no wireless android auto or carplay.
The Halo units look sweet, but may cover the dash buttons from what I saw in a picture in a facebook group. The wired CarPlay is lame too, but I think that can be fixed with a dongle. However, this is definitely a more appealing option than a standard double-din unit!

This looks awesome! Is it the same unit marketed under the Seicane brand? https://www.seicane.com/android-for-2002-2006-2007-2008-audi-a4-radio-gps-navigation-with-hd-touchscreen-carplay-bluetooth-support-digital-tv-h2472
I have so many questions... Do the steering wheel controls work as advertised? Does it display track/station info in the center of the cluster? CarPlay is wired? And if so can I use a wireless CarPlay dongle? Can I mirror my iPhone screen to the unit, or does that require jailbreaking my phone?
Thanks for any guidance you guys can provide!

not at all. There are tons of resellers with similar looking devices that have significantly different hardware inside. That Seicane unit you linked is using a much older SoC with less RAM/eMMC storage compared to the CarExc unit I purchased, which is reflected in the price difference. Who knows what MCU it uses, if it supports sleep mode properly, etc.
* steering wheel controls work on all of these
* most display radio frequency/preset and selected "input" but not any track info/metadata
* you can connect any CarPlay dongle that supports Android-based head units
* no idea what is required to mirror an iDevice as I don't use them

Another update, I have received return instructions for my head unit, and will be shipping it back for replacement. The weird thing that I just noticed is that the unit (XTrons IB89A4APL) is no longer shown on their site and is "unavailable" on their amazon store, yet their older Android 8.1 version is still active. It appears I might not be the only one suffering issues with that specific model... more to come as it develops.
Just got an XTrons IB89A4APL. Bose system. Hooked up directly to the factory quadlock connector and I was immediately assaulted with horrible noise. The noise is present even when volume is at 0. Noise when the car is completely off, worse when it's running, and worse still when the lights are on. Did other people have this same experience? Do you have noise when the volume is at 0? I ordered a quadlock extension harness so that I can wire in some line level converters but I'm not convinced this will solve my problem.

the reason for major noise for me was the AM/FM antenna, removed it and everything was good, not an issue for me, having internet connected theres no need for AM/FM radio. try to take off the connector from the xtrons unit

So I've been running an Xtrons Android 8.0 unit in my B7 RS4 for the past year and it has worked well. Out of the box, it output the notorious buzzing thru the speakers, but I fixed that by installing some PAC SNI-35's. These made the system sound perfect.

One thing I dislike about the unit above is the thin, sheetmetal retaining clips. They are sharp, bend easily, and the tools do not engage in them well. It's kinda a hassle to remove/install multiple times, and I have had to rebend the tabs. Also, out of the box, the unit sits slightly high in the console. This fitment issue is not visible, but the top of the bezel rubs the bottom of the buttons, especially the ESP button, and prevents the ESP button from working properly. I tried to correct the fitment with the internal mounting, but could not get it to sit lower. I ended up using the belt sander to remove a small amount of material from the top of the bezel, and now the ESP button works properly.
I've mainly used the Android headunit to monitor engine & turbo system data thru a RaceCapture Track MK2 unit and the RaceCapture app. It works really nicely for this. Here is a link to the RaceCapture hardware: https://www.autosportlabs.com/product/racecapturetrack-mk2/
Just yesterday, I ordered the larger Xtrons 8" screen version with Android 9.0. I think this unit will display the RaceCapture data slightly better and, while I really like the OEM+ look of the unit above, but I'd found that I really don't use the knobs and never use the DVD drive. I'll give the larger unit a try and sell whichever one I don't prefer...

How does the pac-sni 35 work? Do you just plug the rca cables into it? I’m looking at the pictures on Amazon and there are wires coming out of it as well...do those wire into something on the unit?
Also is the front screen with the “Audi Multi Media Interface” come standard from xtron?

What screen would be the easiest to plug/play if theres such thing? I mean in terms of without doing anything to it. Whats the easiest to put in? Looking at Apple compatibility and thats about it.

So I got the same Android Head unit that Matt Devo got. I purchased the one with the wireless CarPlay/Android Auto feature. The shipping took some time because of the Pandemic. Once I got the unit I started the installation. There were no instructions on how to install but it is pretty straightforward and plug and play if you’re somewhat handy...no cutting or splicing required, except for the line level filters you have to wire in to avoid the noise everyone gets from installing aftermarket radios. I followed mostly what Matt Devo recommended as far as avoiding the ground noise from the Bose system of the car. Once install was complete, I fired it up and everything was in Chinese! I used “Google Translate” app’s camera translate option to navigate through the unit and change it to English...once I did that, everything was good to go. I adjusted the settings to my likeness and hooked up an aftermarket backup cam. It comes with 3 us cable ports (1 for CarPlay, and 2 standard USB ports)...I ran those to the glove compartment. The wireless feature of the unit’s CarPlay seem to work well, I haven’t noticed any lag whatsoever. I also installed another “launcher” instead of using the one that runs on the unit...for those who don’t know what that is, it’s sort of the software that runs the unit, like Apple iOS or Android. I downloaded the paid version of “Car Launcher” on the GooglePlay store and used that...the paid version is worth it in my opinion. I’ve installed a few Android head units on my other cars and I run the same launcher on all of them. With the line level filters, the noise everyone gets with aftermarket radios is virtually gone.
I haven’t completely finished the install because I’m still waiting on the gps fakra adapter cable in the mail. The unit comes with a gps antenna, but I prefer to use the car’s gps antenna. Once I get that I can wrap everything up.
Well, I think that’s about it. Overall I would recommend the unit. It’s a good update/upgrade over the current navigation unit since newer cars nowadays all have a similar set up. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200514/ff48865a0ad69514829035f82cd27726.jpg

New Audi owner here, had the car for about 2 months now and using an FM BT transceiver was killing me!
I opted for an Android unit and this is one of the 'cheaper' ones I could find, having a physical volume knob was a big deal for me and a lot of the newer ones are all soft buttons.
When I installed it I got the dreaded alternator whine as many here have experienced (full BOSE system) which was almost livable temporarily if it wasn't for the whining when the lights were on!
So I got a 4 channel high to low converter, slapped that in as you can see and how all is grand!
The included bezels don't fit the bracket so I'll need to 3D print one, but for the time being, I've spray painted the parts of the metal bracket that you can see black and this doesn't seem too bad IMO.
I slapped a 128GB micro SD in the HU for some offline Spotify and local google maps, this was all setup in the house using an ATX PSU to save faffing in the car.
You can see below I took out the A pillar and put the GPS antenna in there as well as the mic.

for those with Xtrons devices, PX5, 8core, 4gb ram, on android 8, you can update it to android 9.
I don't know why , but xtrons themself telling me its not possible, and I've asked them twice ...
Apologies, currently the Android version on our units can not be upgraded without changing the whole Android module. We do hope to bring this feature with future models.
However if you wish to have a firmware update we can give you one, although it's only recommended if your unit is experiencing some issues.
Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any further questions.
Kind regards,
Abby

aked them a 2nd time with more info on my request , still negative :
Sorry,it is preset by the factory, you could not upgrade it to higher android version if you didn't change a coreboard.
Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any further questions.
Kind regards,
Abby

Anyway, it took 15 minutes and I've followed this guide :

or this 5 min video :

***You can also get a dummy 3rd party app to do the update 'ModInstaller Pro', .
I dont get why xtrons are not able to do the proper update files, while random people do it for free.... so lame.
I also found an other laucher, which can be very similar to Agama. Didn't tested it yet, but I will do . FCC launcher on the playstore.

They're not wrong though. The Mtce units cam be upgraded and run custom ROMs but the SC32 versions cannot. Two Android units can have nearly identical or identical specs but if the chipset is different then one may not be able to. And if you're too lazy to look up what chipset and firmware you're running then you could brick your unit. Doesn't take much, just the wrong search criteria and not paying attention to details.

I get it, I've rooted and put custom roms in about 50 devices.
But the point here, for their rockchip chipset, is very possible, I even sent them the whole listing of the unit spec.
This is probably why they don't offer update on their website nor OTA, for the few devices not 'compatible'.
My device was able to be upgraded, very easely, with a very low chance of hard brick. 1 click flash, that's it.
Also, in example, OnePLus are kind of big now, and they release online (for everyone) Beta version of android software, which are 10 times more complicated to install, on device twice the price of the headunit. Nothing impossible.

I managed to get my XTRONS PX5 upgraded from Android 6 to Android 9 today, with some hiccups (or scares) [:)]. I thought I bricked it yesterday and almost gave it up [confused]. It loaded from bootable SD okay, but after reboot, it seemed reading update.img, but no prompt just black screen, thus I could not tell. So a lot of reset, reboot, pug in, and plug out, I suddenly realized that I never got into Recovery Screen (supposed by pressing reset). Then it just stopped responded to anything - panic mode [=(].
Today, I gave it another try. It showed something like "Recovery V9.0.5. E: Failed to mount ..., Wiping data". I suddenly realized that this is Android 9 Recovery and it must be previous attempt to install Android 9 failed (maybe I was not patient enough). After "wiping", it shows beautiful "Android Recovery Menu" screen to Reboot or Apply System Update, etc ... easy afterwards. I am elated to get unit back. Will spend more time to explore and look into how to get Carplay work with it.

. Also, you most have the 2gb 4core version?
flash procedure should be the same as my unit.
Android 9 must be slow af on those units?
@popoySd, agama for sure, looks like a 2010-ish car menu.
car launcher pro look like a kid toy, or homer simpson car design , lol.
Have you tried FCC launcher ? I've tried it few minutes, but so far I think I like more agama, mostly for the swipe function that shows you more app under the single app icon,
BTW xtrons get back to me, and they told me I was lucky.... And if I have issue to communicate with them... I don't know about the luck, but according to user feedback on XDA, its simple as 1 click flash.

It is PX5 8-core 64-bit Cortex-A53 @ 1.5GHz, with 2GB RAM / 32GB ROM. I have not played it enough, but it appears more or less the same performance on first glimpse. I would look for PX6 wit 4GB RAM, if I were to buy a new one. But, ..., it works [:)]

I managed to get my XTRONS PX5 upgraded from Android 6 to Android 9 today, ....
Found that BT not working. After searching XDA forum and tried several times downgrading to 6, up to 8 , up to 9, .... I finally figured it out. It turns out I have SD-968 BT module, which should be up-gradable to 9, however with a caveat - only models after August 2017; and mine is not. But it works on 8, which is where I am happily at. Looking into Carplay dongle, then even happier.

what ROM are you using. Like I said, Xtrons told me that android 9 WONT work on my unit, but Hal9k Mod v4 for MTCD/E worked fine.
there's no developer for a specific model, but if there was one, pretty sure he can take some old driver an get android 9 to work with old unit.
I saw those kind of issue with old popular devices, like galaxy S2. This phone came out with gingerbread 2.3, and dev push it up to marshmallow 100% functional, and even android 10 with LineageOS 17.1...

For 9, I was using generic HCT_PX5_9.0_20191216. It worked, except for BT. As you mentioned, probably the new driver does not work on old SD-968. They obviously could include drivers for both old and new. I believe Xtrons tells people so, since they do not want to deal with support issues of old SD-968, like mine.

Switched to an Xtrons Android unit from the old RNS-E. Tech wise it’s beyond the RNS-E. My only complaint is having to find a CarPlay dongle and slow WiFi internet speeds.
I did find a 3G/4G antenna adapter, but would lose the Fakra GPS. However, when using LTE with my phone paired to the head unit it gets better internet speeds.
Also, the HD resolution is so clear. I wouldn’t be surprised if the generations came out with a 4K or dare I even say 8K screen [:D]. Touchscreen and startup is pretty responsive and quick as well.

Yup! Still very happy with it. Only gripe I have so far is with the Wireless Carplay feature...I purchased the unit with wireless CarPlay option, but when I’m driving after about 20-30 min, it disconnects and won’t reconnect. I would have to restart CarPlay for it to reconnect. Kind of annoying...I have the option to just plug it in using a cable and it won’t disconnect, but it defeats the purpose of me paying extra to get wireless CarPlay. Everything else in the unit so far works well. I haven’t had any issues yet aside from what I stated above. The only difference with this unit and the Xtrons unit is the Android chip...Xtrons run PX5 and this one has PX6 which is supposed to be faster.
Fitment is great. It looks like oem and gives an updated look. Only suggestion I have is to install an “anti glare” film because you get glare from the unit during day time use. I just bought an 8x10 film in Amazon, measured the Android unit screen, and cut the film to fit. I don’t have any recent pictures. But this one shows the unit installed, and you can see the glare...but it’s not like that anymore since I put anti glare film. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200718/ffe10c6caff276800872195663d9f489.jpg

Looking at the various models and price points I was surprised to see that the top of the line units are close to $400. Based on Matts recommendation I wanted to go with the PX6 processor. I'm also curious if all of these units have a real DSP, that allows for a time delay to the speakers and not just an equalizer.

From what I have read the DSP units have better sound. I have been trying to figure out what the Xtrons units have. They seem to be a better name, however I don't see that their A4 compatible units have a PX6 processor as an option, hard to tell what they have inside.
Any latest recommendations?
Thanks!

After struggling to log in Sygic account to enable my premium license - app crash at password input for both Sygic Car Nav and GPS Nav, I decided to upgrade to Android 9. I figured out how to copy old SD-968 driver to Android 9 system, and BT works great on A9. Also it apprears at least Sygic GPS Nav also works.
I am looking at getting the Xtrons head unit. Reading over this thread it looks like I will need to do the line level mod. However, The Xtrons harness does not look like the other ones I have seen do with this mode. It almost looks like a OEM harness on both sides. The Xtrons harness does not have the RCA cables like other ones I have seen when reading up on the mode.
Here is the exact radio I am looking at.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/XTRONS-For-Audi-A4-S4-RS4-B6-B7-8-Android-9-0-Car-GPS-Stereo-Radio-8-Core-TPMS/293540605017?fits=Make%3AAudi&epid=0&hash=item4458622c59:g:MmMAAOSw9tFd4LNP
Would I just do the normal line level mode and add RCA cables to the end of the wires?

do not buy this unit, you'll have horrible whine/noise even with line-level adapters in use. This is true for any of these units which have a quadlock plug/direct factory plugs on the back.

Yes, you will need something like Sygic which does not need data but you can always turn your phone in to a WiFi hot-spot.

Both. They can be great if you understand their shortcomings and know how to work around them. If you have high expectations for perfection, you will be disappointed. They are not name brand Japanese head units, however they have greater customization possibilities, look more oem, and have more features and functions, dollar for dollar.

Anyone else order a CarExc unit from AliExpress? Three weeks and all I've gotten is an order confirmation. It shows as finished "Ready for Dispatch" and waiting for shipment. I messaged the seller and in fact it hasn't shipped. 3 1/2 weeks to not ship an instock item seems excessive, they told me it was slow because Covid. Anyone else's have an ordering process that was that slow?
When I bought it the delivery date was listed at 8/4. This is my first time using AliExpress, so far I'm not impressed.

I dont knot why, but mine work perfectly, and I dont have a huge buzz in the back ground, just a little bit when head light on, and it wont get up with volume, so pass a XX volume level, I wont hear it.
Evey penny worth it. iirc it was 400$ cad in 2018, from ebay.
got mine on january 2018, the octocore 4gb version from xtrons, upgradable up to android 10 (android 8 from factory).
in 2.5years, no issue. Sounds great, waze is must. running ymusic for streaming, et poweramp for my fav mp3. and it got a backup cam.

The excuses started with slow shipping because Covid, I was in the hospital. Yesterday it was I forgot to pay DHL.
First tracking number was never valid (issued on 7/30) . Yesterday I filed a complaint and got a new tracking number, also not valid. Paperwork did show the parcel was scheduled to leave the warehouse. Later yesterday I was sent third tracking number that is back dated from before the second number and shows that a parcel is in transit. Since its dated one day after the first tracking number I'm saying its someones elses number.
My warning if your looking for an Android head is that for me CarExc is turning out to be pretty flakey. Hopefully I will get my money back.

A quick update. The CarExc did finally ship the unit and once DHL actually got it it arrived very quickly. I bench tested it and it does have the correct processor and memory. In my mind there was no excuse for all the delays, the unit was in stock in a warehouse. You would think they would have wiped the dust off of it before they put it in the shipping box. So far it all looks good and the seller did eventually come though.

they're just slow AF, no real excuse. Maybe the internal Carplay/AA is the cause of the backlog, IDK. But I'll be looking for a new supplier after my current batch ships. You'd think ordering a few dozen units would get you better service but apparently not

Is there anything I’m missing here ? Or the unit is crap? Looks very good tho

Blimey is that all they are now, just a tablet with a loom.
Your problem sounds a little strange so you have full sound with the radio but nothing for any other application....... Try restarting the unit to default and start again but ping a message to the seller all the same.
Not sure you should have repinned the canbus though, never heard of anyone having to do that and maybe that part of the problem so may be add what was the issue with the canbus and it looks like they sent you two.

Not a canbus issue, al I had to do is to mate the pair.
Ya they sent me two canbus decoders, by mistake I’m sure as both are identical and works.
I have contacted the seller, will factory default it and see, ya it is a weird issue, most probably software related.

Anybody know why I get sound only from the radio ? All other apps like YouTube, Bluetooth, sound cloud.... no sound. There are lots of settings options which I don’t understand
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201002/41e3a4ae8e53a1b3afc80927f36bd509.jpg
I’m pretty sure it is a tick somewhere.
My car is with Bose btw.
I have got a hi to low converter and wired the speakers amplified output instead of the line out the radio got and still no joy.
Edit
I just wired a bookshelf speaker direct to the unit and all apps sound works, so basically the Bose amplifier only accepting the radio output for some reason ? Went and connected the unit to my other Audi which is without Bose and front speakers worked.
Ok is there anything special about the Bose amp ?

Found the issue.
In short to sort this wire the BLUE amp switched positive to the RED ACC.
it appears the headunit is killing the power from the blue antenna wire as soon you switch to anything else away the radio app, which kida make sense but stupid.
In our cars this powers on the amp as well.
Well cheap unit but now works.

I took the most generic cam on ebay, and the quality is great. Let say , 2010-2012 OEM cam great. Surely not in the 2020 Tesla 360° cam range tho.
But unless you're a pro driver or a semi driver, rear cam are for the initial check for kids. Then turn the head and drive in R.
btw I didnt use the light, I dremel out the cam, and dremel a hole next to the plate light on the car trunk handle plate.

Hi All,
Has anyone got a pic of a 9inch or larger installed from one of the main players i.e Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood etc?
I love the integration of these Android units but fear the quality and ongoing issues with them and lack of support.
cheers

I got this installed today, camera quality is good and fit is almost OEM, but it won’t automatically switch to camera when I put it in reverse on my Chinese HU. I’ve gone over the wiring several times and can’t figure it out.

^ You have to use a relay to power the camera. The actual power to the reverse lights is got a PWM signal on it for the bulb out notification system. It wont trigger the camera or if it does, the camera signal will have interference lines. Use the reverse light power to switch the relay and find a non PWM power source to power the camera thru the relay. I used the 12V lighter socket thing in the trunk for the non PWM power source.

Can anyone with the Xtrons unit tell me what Fakra Cable I need to use the factory GPS antenna with this unit. I know the unit has a female SMA input just dont know what the Factory Fakra cable has for a connector. I just ordered the unit today and want to have everything ready when I go to install. I purchased the xtrons wireless apple car play dongle and the backup camera for the rear hatch pull also. the unit i purchased was this one:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0824XQCHJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1Went down this route only to realize that factory antenna wasn't working very well. I am not sure if the gps cable extender I got was bad or if the way I connected everything was bad but the gps accuracy was awful. It would always get confused which street I was on. So I just put the antenna the unit came with into the plastic box inside of the glove box and problem solved. Wish I would have done that right away.

My HU is a Hizpo I got from Amazon a couple years ago. It looks like this one, just Android 7.1. I got it because it looks close to OEM, but with way more features.
I did get it all hooked up today and everything is working as it should. I tapped the reverse light for power and then tied the other end to the trigger wire coming off the canbus connector that came with the HU.

Installed my backup camera but getting interference. I hardwired into reverse light and it works great when the car is off and in R and headlight switch is off. When I turn on head lights with the car still off and in R, it starts getting some interference. When the car is on and no matter whether headlight switch is on or off, the picture gets all jumpy and it is impossible to see anything. Obviously, I wired something wrong. I connected blue/red from taillight wiring to the red wire from the camera. I connected brown from the tail light to the black/red from the camera. What did I do wrong and how do I go about fixing it? Thanks in advance for help.

Has anyone installed this Xtrons unit?
I have searched high and low and there is heaps of info on Android units but I cant find this one specifically.
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Android-10-0-Car-Radio-Stereo-8-DSP-GPS-Navi-DAB-Headunit-for-Audi-A4-B6-S4-RS4/114318122507
Looks to be this one:
https://xtrons.com/audi-various-built-in-dsp-android-10-2gb-ram-16gb-rom-psd80a4al
The loom looks different to the others I have seen having a separate loom for the Bose system.
It is going in a B7 RS4 with RNSE and Bose.
What are these like? Are they an old model? Noise / whine? Speed or startup? any pros and cons over the others that Matt Devo has mentioned?
I appreciate every ones help, I amjust nervous to buy one, its not a lot of money but dont want it as a door stop and if needed I'll just guy an Alpine or kenwood etc.
Cheers

Hey!
I got this one in my base b7 - https://m.aliexpress.com/item/32811042748.html?spm=a2g0n.orderlist-amp.item.32811042748&aff_trace_key=&aff_platform=msite&m_page_id=9242amp-4jBog4n0y-h0NNvZm44b4g1605489073114&browser_id=d34d3af98e76418fbdc9827dc9b528d7&is_c=Y
- and I love it. It runs Android 10 and works exactly as intended. I got only 2gb of ram and 32 gb of storage. It is super fast on start up because it doesn't turn off completely. Sometimes switching between apps could take a second or two. If that is too long, all you need to do is buy one with more ram. Canbus is good as well so I can use steering wheel controls. The instrument panel screen shows radio stations and shows when you use bluetooth but goes blank when you use an app such as spotify. The screen automatically dims when you turn on headlights and it automatically engages rear camera when in R (camera needs to be installed separately). This unit also looks closest to stock radio that I had before. I think they also have the variant that looks like RNSE. As far as sound goes, the quality is great but you will need a high level converter. This video explains it pretty well -https://youtu.be/EUC5tq5dWkQ
I dont like the stock launcher they include with the unit so I switched mine to Car Launcher Pro.

I have it since August last year
I like it and works well - get a unit with big ram as mine got 2G and sometimes I feel it struggling a bit.
The canbus decoder started to work / not work, contacted them and they said it is faulty and I need to replace it.
Overall - good unit
I have base A4, they send two wiring harnesses, most probably going to be plug and play for you.
I would suggest you ask them before.

I've been thinking about jumping in to one of the units listed in the posted above, Xtrons. Currently doing my home work on all this. I've been using an plug in Bluetooth to FM adapter and its getting old.
Before jumping into a Xtron unit I wanted to ask if anyone has used any of theses options from JVC, KenWood, Pioneer ect? Looking at the specs for the all the units under the $400 ish mark.
Any thoughts?

Ok, so I bought this unit and as expected have the humming noise.
Sound also kept turning on and off randomly, which turned out to be the antenna connection, with it unplugged it was fine, when plugged in sound would randomly turn on and off no matter if I was using an app or radio. Radio reception is also rubbish.
This unit also has a 'Bose' RCA interceptor box which is causing the humming, if bypassed I get no humming but the sound quality is not there. (I could only bypass if the 'Bose' box was earthed and powered as well for some reason, its like it triggered the factory amp on).
It is such a strange setup and even with some earthing filters I still go the hum.
The unit also has DSP and a sub out cable but I cant see anywhere to control the subwoofer on the head unit.
Anyone else encounter this subwoofer issue?
Thanks

Are you sure you wired everything correctly? I don't have BOSE but at first when installed, rear speakers and subwoofer were super quiet. I had to get this to fix it- https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000LP4RMQ?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title I followed the youtube video I posted above to wire it. I believe he said you need two for BOSE?
Maybe your 'BOSE' RCA box is faulty?
As for the antenna, I connected the stock wire with the unit (canbus?) wire. I did not do anything with the subwoofer wire as the subwoofer is together with rear speakers.
Good luck.

I have seen that and bought a 4 channel PAC version

They have offered to send me their loom with converts already installed but I have read on this site they don't work:

Ill let everyone know how I go.
Has anyone fixed the terrible radio reception?
Update:
The xtrons harness has fixed the noise but their new antenna cable has not, has anyone got the antenna for radio working well?
Thanks

Hi folks....I promise I have SCRUBBED this thread with no luck on my answer. Everyone seems to be replacing an RSN-E that already has dual connectors, or is adding an aftermarket unit with the traditional motorola connector.
I have a 2005.5 A4 with the Symphony II, so it has the ISO connector on the back for (I assume AM and FM) and the single Fakra for satellite. I have purchased this radio https://www.ebay.com/itm/XTRONS-For-Audi-A4-S4-RS4-B6-B7-8-Android-9-0-Car-GPS-Stereo-Radio-8-Core-TPMS/293540605017?fits=Make%3AAudi&epid=0&hash=item4458622c59:g:MmMAAOSw9tFd4LNP and the only antenna connections on the back are a dual/twin Fakra connection. I believe the yellow fakra goes unused since no satellite on this unit, and then I would need an adapter with a single female ISO connector for the car, and a dual fakra for the stereo, with a blue trigger wire connection as well. If that is accurate, I cannot find an adapter like this anywhere. Can anyone let me know if I'm missing something or if there's a workaround?
If it helps anyone, I'll add that other than this antenna issue, this unit is completely plug and play so far for the Symphony II. I bought the line level converter for the rears and didn't have to use it....levels are great and no static or extra noise from the speakers.

I had to plug in both the ISO and fakra connectors on my 2004 with Symphony II. I got the similar xtrons unit that looks like an RNS-E.
Started with just the fakra and had bad reception on some radio stations (but not all). Same if I plugged in just the ISO connection using an adapter. But, the existing yellow fakra and adapter for the ISO (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QKPDB7Y?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) wouldn't fit next to each other in the radio. I ended up buying a dual fakra to 2x single fakra adapter (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QG2RRZL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) and then transferred the existing yellow fakra to it to cut down on wires. Radio reception is much better now (not perfect but I can live with it). Looking at the wiring diagrams, I think the yellow fakra is the additional connection for the diversity antenna.
Like you, I didn't have to use any line level converters for the back. The only time I noticed any whine with the headlights on was with the car off and volume cranked to an uncomfortable level.
I haven't gotten around to ordering the android auto/carplay dongle, just used the screen mirroring app on a few short drives. It's...ok... Took a while to get controls from the head unit working, and night mode has some quirks, but it's just temporary until I finally order the dongle.
Now I just need to finish running the rear camera wire under the center console and carpet to run around the rear bench.

Been lurking on this thread forever. Think I'm finally fed up with the rnse and would like some actually 21st century features.
Been looking at the xtrons units. They look clean and seem to have all the features.
But has anyone bough this 8" screen version? Im hesitate in case the touch screen is terrible.
Any input would be appreciated.
I have Bose.

Might want to get a PX6 unit instead.
All these Xtron units have infamous humming noise issue, which can be fixed with two Hi-Lo converter, such as PAC SNI-25. And sound quality is pretty good with the mod. However, this unit back panel does not have or need connector harness, and is direct connect. This is supposedly an improvement and does look neat, BUT make adding Hi-Lo more difficult. You might do it by opening the box (?).

Take a look here. I got one of these wondefoo from aliexpress but I went with android 10 2gb ram. I wish I had gone with 4gb instead. Shipping was fast and everything works great. Had to to wire rear speakers through HI to LO filter (non Bose sound system) though.

So i ordered the unit and a fakra cable for the nav so i can still use it.
Are there any other cables that i should get as a precaution for the potential noise people are getting?
Id rather do everything at once.

I admit that I have not read all 3k + posts in this thread. If I am duplicating something from before, I apologise.
I have been researching this for a few years now and want to get the 8" Xtrons form factor like the previous post. I'm just waiting until it supports 5GHz wifi so it can do wireless Android Auto. It seems that most of the Xtrons models only support 2.4 GHz wifi which has been pretty slow when using my Note 9 as a hotspot.
On a separate note, enfig audio has a custom harness that makes the install virtually plug and play for Xtrons. It is a little pricey, but it will save a lot of headaches. They even have a cable/adapter so you can use the OEM GPS antenna in the roof mount shark fin...

Of course, everyone has their own opinion. Just putting it out there if it can help anyone.
Lord knows, this forum has been a godsend and wealth of info for me.

Sent from my SM-N960U using TapatalkThanks,
I just emailed them to make sure they have one that fits the newer xtrons unit.
I was just gonna get 2 hi/lo converters otherwise and i guess some sort of antenna adapter.
Probably about $50-60 total
But if they have a plug n play harness for the same amount then why not!
This is the harness i ordered with the unit to supposedly work with the factory radio antenna.
https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-External-Antenna-Pigtail-Jumper/dp/B07MVTMVZ1
Ordered this as well so i can use factory gps antenna.
https://www.amazon.com/Metra-40-VW53-Aftermarket-Factory-Volkswagen/dp/B0002BES6Y
Found this 4 channel line converter, had decent reviews as well as gain adjustment.
So i got that as well, so i only have one big black box tangled up behind the head unit.
https://www.amazon.com/PAC-LP7-4-4-Channel-Output-Converter/dp/B00F0YCK0E
I guess i dont need the enfig harness after all haha
Now i just need the gf not to kill me for buying a new head unit.

im having issues with the wifi connectivity. Im using the supplied wifi antenna (which im sure is trash) to connect to my home network.
Eith my cellphone phone i get geeod wifi signal from the car. But the unit get "fair" signal.
Once i connect the unit to my wifi it connects, but then automatically shuts wifi OFF. It doesn't just disconnect the router, it turns wifi OFF. Then it tries to reconnect. Which just continues the cycle.
Then i tries using my cellphone as a hotspot and that seems to work ok, sometimes, ish. Enough to download a car launcher app. But its so slow its not worth it.
Then the unit just restarted randomly on me. So after messing with it for a while i decided to do a factory reset to see if it would clear out any niggling issues.
It did not.
I took a video so you can see whats happening.
The only thing i can think of is to get a better antenna and try that.

Mine seems to work fine. I would check to make sure you're on the latest firmware and that might help. I think I remember reading something on the XDA forums about the antenna but you'll have to look. You could always buy a cheap, compatible wifi USB stick which works well. I've used that in the past and might be what I'm using now.

Sent from my KB2005 using TapatalkIwas thinking about getting a USB stick. I dont want to break open the case since i just got it. In case i need to warranty it for anything.
I heard of people removing the old antenna and resoldering a new antenna cable in and using a stronger antenna. That'll be my second option.
If i connect my phone via USB then everything works fine. I just want the WiFi for those rare occasions.
Ill see about a usb stick and see if that works.

wifi range is a known ''issue''. IN fact , its only because its a cheap chip, that we are not used to see anymore. its about 3-4x weaker than an iphone.
I tried a dlink antenna, not better.
then I bought a wifi antenna extension, with the minding to hide it in the A pillar , then realized that I never use home wifi, only hotspot. And hotspot signal is top notch since my phone is next to the headunit.
so sorry , ive never tried it, but I can't see why it wont work

When plugging my phone in via usb the unit obviously gets internet via the phone so everything works well on the unit.
I ordered a usb wifi antenna, but if it doesnt work ill just skip the whole trying to get wifi issue.

So the unit sits too deep in the space and gets caught under the hazard button.
So my genius plan for now is this.
I have rhese rubber "feet" from my new Klipsch bookshelf speakers that are probably 6-8mm thick (i didnt measure because im stupid). They make it a perfect fit on the top and bottom to be honest but now the little tabs that seat the headunit in place no longer reach. So i need to find a spacer for them to lush them further back.
Dont mind the mess, still waiting on a USB outlet thing.
Ill update with news.
