Caliper:
Steve Petty Motorsports (SPM) chose to utilize the Alcon Mono6 piston one-piece (monobloc) calipers, which are die cast using an aluminum alloy providing superior strength and weight less than the OEM calipers. The Alcon calipers radially mount to the wheel bearing housing and feature opposed pistons that are staggered with diameters of 27mm/31.8mm/38.1mm, which are specifically sized to supply the appropriate braking force with SPM rotor diameters. The piston stagger also ensures even pad wear and pressure distribution across the wear annulus.

Alcon calipers feature internal wiper and pressure seals, which offer protection from foreign elements while being protected from the environment. This design is more effective in high performance applications than external boots that can get damaged being in contact with the heated components. The single piece construction produces a caliper body that is extremely rigid. This rigidity nearly eliminates deflection within the caliper body and results in consistent high threshold braking performance and provides the driver with more accurate pedal feedback.
Rotor:
The rotors for these sizes and applications are exclusive to SPM and feature Alcon’s proprietary S-Groove pattern with directional vane architecture. The S-groove slot pattern supersedes the highly successful crescent groove pattern and provides improved pad sweeping due to a longer edge being in contact with the pad versus the crescent or straight groove. This offers improved performance displacing debris and gas buildup from the phenolics being released within the pad material.

The directional vane structure draws air radially outward through our large 19mm air gap in the center of the rotor, further improving convection cooling. These rotors are manufactured using an iron alloy and provide exceptional thermal conductivity and strength to weight ratio.
Pads:
Alcon and Ferodo together have specifically developed a brake pad for this application. This pin mounted Ferodo DS-Performance pad requires low threshold pressure and provide precise pad retraction and low noise. These Ferodo DS-Performance pads offer strong cold performance, low dust buildup, and excellent resistance to pedal fade at elevated temperatures.

Brake Lines:
Custom Goodridge G-Stop PTFE Stainless Steel braided lines are manufactured to meet our length and fitting specifications.

Two-piece semi-floating discs:
SPM rotor hats are manufactured using precision CNC machining with 6061 Aluminum that has been heat treated and black anodized. The use of 6061 Aluminum gives the assembly excellent strength and weight characteristics further reducing the vehicle’s unsprung mass.

With the use of our bobbin-drive fastening system, this two-piece design allows for relative expansion of the rotor to be independent of the mounting hat in the radial and axial plane. The floating mechanism is comprised of our Bellville washers, which have been manufactured specifically for SPM to meet our preload, spring rate, and deflection allowances to provide for the appropriate amount of radial and axial expansion.
Caliper Mounting Bracket:
Our caliper mounting brackets are CNC machined using 6061 Aluminum and feature a black anodized plating. The caliper brackets mount directly to the wheel bearing housing reusing the OEM hardware while the Alcon caliper now mounts radially to our brackets using SPM supplied mounting hardware.
