So my wife drives a Lexus is250 and the rear struts/shocks whatever you want to call it needs to be replaced. I keep getting mixed suggestions on what to buy. When I look up some parts I can buy just the shock itself I believe, but should I replace the whole strut assembly, why or why not? I would think just replace the shock should be fine as the springs and other hardware should still be ok. Trying to save a few bucks. Any professional help would be greatly appreciated.

You can just replace the struts and use the existing springs, there's no need to replace the springs unless you're looking to alter the ride height of the vehicle.

I got it all sorted out. My misunderstanding was "shocks" vs "struts" but I now know that struts have the brace/bracket on them and it cannot be removed. Based on pictures of the product that were shown it was confusing. Thanks for all the help everyone.
