I'm trying to install the blauparts suspension conversion kit on my 2001 allroad and have kind of hit a wall.
I have removed the arnot bag replacement strut on the front passenger side ( including a five hour long removal of a broken seized upper ball joint pinch bolt) and now have the new shock in car and the three upper mounting bolts caught but not torqued, my problem is the new shock sits about 4 to 4 1/2" longer than the old collapsed one and I can't get the lower controll arms to swing down anywhere close to enough to getting the lower strut mount in place much less catching the bolt. My brother in law handed me an old school spring compressor and said thats the way to solve the problem but it seems both a wrong and dangerouse way to do it..the coil nshock kit comes seamingly pre assembled. I have been looking at the sway bear links and getting the urge to disconect that hoping to get more downward movement but I afraid of getting even further into trouble. This is my first forray into suspension work period! The car is on jack stands in my driveway.i am a plumber by trade so I have a certain set of mechanical skills, aand have tackled many auto repairs in the past with great results, but I'm beginning. To regret starting this. Any advise/ help would be greatly appreciated.
