Hi, my name is Dan and I'm from Toronto. By trade I am a mechanic specializing in performance so I do motor builds, fabrication and things of that sort. I have mainly been a Nissan/Toyota guy all my life. Right now I drive a Lexus SC with a 2JZGTE putting down about 800RWHP so I am not new to the world of big hp/boosted cars. What attracted me to Audi is their quattro system and good construction. Also I want something I can drive all year round that is fun.

I'll cut to the chase :) I don't know too much about these cars and I would like to know if it would be a good platform for someone who's looking to make 1000+AWHP. I know its going to cost a lot more than building a on a Supra platform but I really want big power with AWD. I don't know which motor is good for what and which transmission is the strongest. I have already blown both the transmission and rear end in the SC at track so those drivetrain components in something I would be building must be beefy enough.

Ideally I would like to do a 4.2L swap with a single turbo but I was reading that those blocks are not the strongest. I would be building the motor with forged internals and lower compression ratio of course. Do you think a built 4.2 will hold 1000+hp or would I be better off just building the 2.7T? How would the 6spd 0LE transmission and diffs hold up against that type of power?

Also someone suggested the R32 VR6 motor. I was doing some research on it and it looks promising as well, it does have 7 main bearing caps and an iron block. I wanted the V8 because of the displacement but also found a stroker kit that will increase the 3.2 to a 3.6 so I guess I would be happy with 3.6L if it would be a lot more reliable than the V8.

Would you recommend me getting a B5 S4 to start this project as it already has the 0LE in it or would it be just cheaper to find an A4 with a blown motor and source all the drivetrain components afterwards.

Thanks!

bad platform for 1000+ rwhp. but if you really wanna try it, throw a turbo LS motor in with an LS to 01E adapter plate (http://www.bncproducts.com.au/transaxle_adaptor_kits.html)

You may want to post in the B5 S4 or C5 A6 section
