Hey

Just picked up a set of RS6 turbos and wanted to inspect the compressor and turbine wheels.

I've removed the bolts holding the three c-clamps from the rear of the compressor cover. This allows the cover to rotate freely all the way around.

When I try and remove it I am unable to do so!, is there another bolt I cant see or procedure needed?

When I try and lift the cover off it only moves approx 2mm.

I have not tried the turbine side yet as I want to work this out first, I also have not touched the othrrbtjrgid

Your assistance is appreciated in advance!!

The covers are sealed to the backing plates. Depending on who did it, that shit can be like cement. I beat one off with a rubber mallet, ended up destroying the wheel (was rebuilding anyway).

You've been warned.

These have never been opened since manufacture by 3K for Audi which I know for a fact.

So the fact they are moving 2-3mm odd the backing plate would mean the seal or sealant your talking about has startedntk give already??

Thanks

I wouldn't recommend taking them apart if you're not planning on rebuilding them for the reason previously stated. Just look at the wheels with the covers on. Look for bent fins or nicks in them. Also spin the wheels and see if there's any contact with the housings. If there is any I'd recommend a rebuild.

Don't know if you ever figured this out but warming the comp cover with a torch around the edges then gently tapping with a rubber mallet works very well.
