They called and told me my truck's paperwork is over there in gaithersburg. Wasnt bad, no one was there really.

Question - i got a tag for 10,000lbs GVW. Anyone know the cost to go full 24,000lbs GVW that my truck can tow? The lady at the MVA was useless.

Usually you need a CDL and DOT paperwork to get anything past 10K lbs GVW.

Okay so if I hook up a toy hauler RV or goose neck with 3 cars in tow, I need a cdl license??? I thought you didn't. And that will easily push past 10k gvw

Usually you need a CDL and DOT paperwork to get anything past 10K lbs GVW.

I've driven a dually for 12 years commercially and from what I know is:

1. Registering your trucks GVWR higher is unnecessary unless you physically are hauling inside the bed something that is really that damn heavy. Besides that, if/when you get pulled over and the trooper sees you have 10K on the door and 13K on the registration, they follow whats on the door.

2. Your legal towing capacity will depend on the GVWR of the trailer you're pulling. Your gross combination weight can not exceed 26,000 lbs. If you exceed that, you're now classified as Class A.

examples:

Truck GVWR 10K lbs + trailer 16K lbs = 26,000 lbs - CLASS C.

Truck GVWR 14K lns + trailer 12.5K lbs = 26,500 lbs - CLASS A.

If your legal combination weight is 24K lbs and you weigh in at 25K lbs, get ready for a ticket... usually a hefty one at that.

You DO NOT need a CDL if your total GVWR is 26,000 lbs or less. Only if your total GVWR is 26,001 lbs or more, then yes, you need a CLASS A (no air brake endorsement required unless you are pulling something with air)

You will probably need a medical card.

You shouldn't need a DOT number since you're not commercial.

Thanks for the info, really helpful. Right now the most I'm towing is a car trailer, but looking at enclosed trailers with gooseneck as well as casual camping trailers/car haulers.

Heck I don't even know how much a ram 3500 duallie weighs but I'll cross that when I get there.

Okay fun question as I break from this END OF SEMESTER work im stuck in ....as you all know I'm considering options on what next to do with my car. I just received a call that a 2013 TTS is available that I was looking at previously but was told it was sold. I am waiting to hear back if the price has changed any since then but it was a solid deal to begin with beyond having to drive and go get it. The TTS has only 15k miles on it and warranty until 2016. Mine has 55k miles and under warranty until 2017. What to do or what would you do when a dealer comes back to you about a car to get the price even lower?

I am not trying to throw my money away, just less mileage, little better gas mileage and back to the coupe life which I do miss. I would only do it if monetarily everything works out about equal to what I am spending now that is all which with similar payments for the TTS and a lot less on insurance it is about there if not better.

No one is TRYING to throw money away. Let's just say the amount you save on little better gas mileage is not equal to the sales tax you will b e paying.

If you want to extend your payments for another 3-5 years and eat more depreciation BUT that is worth going to the coupe life, then do it.

Just trying to make sure you understand the real costs. It isn't monthly payments for a few months but a few years.

My uncle has an F450 with a 5th wheel three axle trailer and does not need a CDL and my buddy has a 3500HD with a 5th wheel and a 48' race car trailer and again no CDL so you should be good

Also, my buddy Jeff from PA is awesome. He figured out there's a switch on the transmission that controls the backup lights, so it wasn't my bulb at all. Well the left turnsignal was bad and he not only fixed the stripped screw, but he unplugged the switch for the time being so my backup lights don't blind everyone while I'm driving :)

Picked up my stockers, so back to winters as soon as I find someone to mount my tires.

On the real I go out and have a good time especially if there is dancing involved. Last time I went out in DC I went to "the Park" it was a good time and good....music lol

But I am down for a boys night in the next two weeks before Christmas, grab food, snap some pics and let the night go if anyone up for it, I just hope I could make the two hour drive home afterwards ha

It's too quiet in here today...

also, after over 3 years of ownership I finally got the low brake pad light on last night. I was really hoping they would last forever but oh well I suppose. I have no idea how to do my brakes [=(]

They are not too bad to change, but not the simplest either. If I remember rightly on the fronts I had to grind down an 8mm hex to make it fit easier on the back of the caliper, and the rears are a pain because of the piston on the caliper not being able to push back in, but having to be screwed back in.

They do last a long time though, I have changed mine once in 5 years. By the time I have to change them again I will have likely forgotten how.

I can see the brake dust being especially annoying on your wheels, I hate cleaning it off my enkei's and they have about a third of the spokes you are dealing with. I forget what pads I went with, might be EBC, either way they are considerably less dusty than the stock pads.

Hydraulic. Unknown, previous home owner bought it. You most definitely would need pro installation, as well as a forklift to move the columns around.

Last I checked, this particular unit would have been in the $2500 range. He got it from a garage that was going out of business, so I'm fairly sure he got it for somewhere in the 500 range.

Hydraulic. Unknown, previous home owner bought it. You most definitely would need pro installation, as well as a forklift to move the columns around.

Last I checked, this particular unit would have been in the $2500 range. He got it from a garage that was going out of business, so I'm fairly sure he got it for somewhere in the 500 range.

Right by the service bay. What part was getting fixed? This place sucks! I've been here 3 hours waiting for tires to get changed that they owed me because they put wrong tires on when they sold it to me.

Girl 2 - Dated her for a year and we break up and she actually slits her wrist (craving emotion kind, not kill herself kind) FYI thats scary, she came after me with the knife and I had to chuck norris it out of her hand

Girl 3 - Dated for over a year we break up and she pulls a knife on her parents and her dad calls me (dad was as high powered dc attorney) so I had to talk her off the ledge for him
