View Full Version : What do you use to mark your tires?

It's that time of year again and it's time to change back to summer.

In previous years, I have always used masking tape on my rims and write on them to mark my tires. This method leaves residues on the rims so I need a better method.

I have heard of using tire chalk, is that what tire shops use? What do you use and where do you buy it?

Thanks

Stick the tape on the inside of the rim/tire

Or sidewalk chalk

I steal the white greasy pen from Tim Hortons when they dont look. No jokes.

I use circular cardboard inserts for my tire totes. Protects the faces and I know what tire is from where

You can buy the white tire marker from any Cdn Tire for about $1.99.

Or 'borrow' your kid's crayola crayons [:D]

I use chalk, and I wrote on my tire bags for my set of wheels.

Ah! That's what I am looking for. I failed at searching on CT site...-_-

I don't have kids but crayon works too?

I also should invest in some proper tire totes.

Yeah, it's basically a crayon. Not that easy to come off, but usually wears off after a season of driving the tires. So don't write on the outside of the tires - unless you want everyone to see it. [>_<]

I've used Sharpie on the back and/or face. Wipes clean.

Since my winter rims and tires are so filthy I just use my finger to write something on the tire itself (of course I'm wearing a pair of work gloves)

I have my tire totes marked with a sharpie and just match the tires up with their respective totes.

Thanks guys.

Now...any suggestions for tire totes? I was going to get the Audi ones but wondering if there are better options out there (quality wise).

I just use one of those plastic tire bags from the shop and slip it over the stacked tires since wrapping up the tires in a bag individually won't work for me.

if you have no storage or room
Just do like others do , get a plexi glass and make a table out of them
when winter comes just switch to summer tires [:D]

I believe Costco had sets for pretty cheap. Last I saw, CT also had the Michellin ones one sale, can't remember if it was for a pair or a full set.

I've written LF, LR, RF, RR on the inside of the centre cap of each wheel with a sharpie. Every year I just switch the centre caps when I rotate the wheels.

Yup, white marker on the inside sidewall of each tire. Basically LF, LR, RF, RR. By the end of the season, it's usually faint enough that I can overwrite the new markings right over the previous ones without any confusion. I also use those large tire bags to cover each tire/rim.

I used white tire marker crayon bought from CT or WallyWorld

Another solution is to use a bread plastic clip. Mark each tire's id -LF/LR/RF/RR- on the back side of the clip with a permanent marker. Then clip it to each corresponding tire.
