so I have a B5 S4... all supporting mods-the only next step is turbos.... my question for you enthusiasts is which way to go. I DD my car, I would like GT28's... is this realistic, I've had large turbos on other vehicles in the past and never really minded the lag that accompanies BIG BOYs. this being said I would be happy with close to 400-450whp numbers. Although if I am gonna spend the money I would like to have big turbos ( just in case I wanna build the engine later) but is it worth it. I am fairly new to the platform, all the searching I've done has shown these engines/drivetrains to. respond very well to any amount off modding. What I'm looking for is your honest opinions and advice on the matter.
should I stick with smaller turbos and not plan on some day building the engine to accommodate big boost? thoughts and experiences??
thanks

the question u pose is going to start a pissing contest.. the real question is how deep are ur pockets? are u prepared to spend 5-7gs on just parts? and will this always be a daily driver? I vote smaller or mid sized turbos that can hold boost up top (ie franken or rs6) b/c power under the curve tends to be more desirable in a 3500lb boosted car. when the turbos can hold boost to redline the power feels linear.. big turbos make highway pulls a blast! but hustling around turns was more enjoyable in lower hp but more torquey cars..
do u like the way car drives now, but u want to almost double output? or do u want to change the driving character..?
just my 2 cents btw

Anyone that tells you gt28s are fun to drive on the street has never driven a car with gt28s. The power comes on late, and by the time they're spooled you're going way too fast.
If you DD the car, and want 450awhp, get FT's or RS6R's. If you just want fun, reliable power, get borg warner k04's.

It depends on what you want from the car and also the condition and health of your motor. I see by your sig you know cars and have your experience. Which is a great thing. But i think what the question needs to be ... What do you want from the car? Do you want a quick spooler? or are you planning on doing internals and want a hp monster? Either way ill be glad to help you out with whatever you need advice or parts just let me know or these guys as well...
Thanks

I dont wanna start a pissing contest so hopefully it doesnt end up that way, just looking for ideas
all great feedback BTW.... and I gotta say it helps reading/hearing responses from people I don't know, so it's unbiased. You guys are right and I do LOVE the way it spools, so fast. The torque is something I love and I will admit I've been tossing around the idea of K04's due to the $$$ I can find them for new. So what's the most reliably made power on 91 octane K04's can do? and would rs6's be much different lag wise.
One thing is I am a Mercedes mechanic myself so labor isn't really a factor, I've done very mod on every car I've ever worked on minus the tuning on newer cars (I can leave that to trained professionals)
