I'm following the direction for a timing belt change for a 2006 Audi A4 2.0T provide by BlauParts, and I can't get the timing marks to align properly. Without putting any tension on the crankshaft bolt the marks sit about an inch from where they should be. As I put tension on the 19mm bolt to turn everything I start getting resistance, and when I release it snaps back. So I fell I am missing a step in here some place.

So far I've removed the top cover and the screws from the bottom cover. The vibration dampener has been loosen but is still in place as per the instructions.

What am I missing?

Thanks for any help
Alex

Post this in the B7 A4 secton. You will get much more responses.

But when I change my timing belt I mark both the crank gear, cam gear, and belt with white out. Transfer those markings to the new belt, match them onto the white markings on the gears, and this ensures that the belt was placed on correctly. Hope that make sense to you. And I always have to have the crank gear offset a bit to make the marks line up because of tension on them. But since I marked the gears and belt, no big deal. Place on other accessories for the front end, give her a couple hand rotations when finished, and the markings on the crank gear to mark and cam gear to VC mark always line up. This is what works for me. I also own a 1.8t, but very similar engines.

That resistance you feel is the dual mass flywheel. Make sure your car is out of gear, the ebrake is off, and you will have a much easier time.
