Hey guys I just picked up a 2004 Audi 2.7t a6 s-line that needs some tlc.

First off the car needs a new rack and pinion which I can handle. The car has three DTC's set the first two are p0492 and p0491 which upon some research I assume are vacuum leaks.

The code I am worried about is p0345 a cam position code.

The reason I am concerned is the code started after getting the timing belt/water pump service done at a local porter and Chester by junior mechanics. He said he had the other codes previous and he thinks the cam code started after the service. He also told me that the car was running fine after the service.

My questions are are the cam sensors a common problem on these cars?

How can I tell if the car jumped timing?

Any other info is appreciated, I was fine with changing the rack but the timing scares me a little.

you might have better luck over in the A6 section. This forum doesn't get a lot of action http://www.audizine.com/forum/forumdisplay.php/5-C4-C5-A6-S6-RS6-allroad Good luck!

Or the B5 S4 section as they share the same engine.

I have a 2001 a6 with the 2.7t engine, and i dont think you have a timing issue because the engine is zero clearance meaning the piston would collide with the valves if the timing is off which would have happend almost right away... believe me lol I had that happen. needed a new engine after that

Engine timing can still be off without bensing valves. Easy way to find out is use a scan tool to loom at cam degree. It should be around 5 degrees. If its off itll be around 20
