In the market for a way of carrying my snowboards on the roof. Where did you get the bars from and how much? Why did you choose a box instead of the sandwhich style carrier?

I think your setup looks awesome!

i was debating between fatcat 6 and box. i chose box because it has more utility. I can just throw all my stuff in there. i wont be using these often since i live in socal. I got bars from REI (had a lot of giftcards from xmas) and feet on amazon.

plus when i saw the lopro box, i thought it looked great too. i just hope its not loud. found the box lightly used on CL for a good price.

im not a fan of racks either but when i saw these, i really liked them because theyre flat and WIDE. i think they compliment the cars lines very well. I don't think round bars or squares would compliment the car like these do.

bars are the "yakima s5 flush bars". they are all the same because they extend. All you need are the feet that match your car

Overall, it's pretty large... but can hold a ton! I like the look better than Thule. Here's a Thule box for comparison. This one is a bit shorter and taller than the yak. You can see it doesn't hang over the back window nearly as much.

Love the look of a rack on Audi's - especially avants... just gives it that "highway cruizer" look... very Euro. Makes me want to get in a few road trips here in the new year.

I know the Whispbars are designed so that a fairing isn't needed but can you attach one anyways?

Call me crazy but I think the fairing completes the look vs. 2 naked bars.

I got a new set with an open box on eBay, but with the wrong fit kit. It was still way cheaper than what I would pay in Canada even after ordering the right fit kit from Amazon.

Did you end up putting the sealant on it? I just got the Thule Sonic - Large for my S4 and was going to put Opti-Coat on it.

I used clear Plastidip to lay down some protective patches on my roof where my Whispbar rubber feet sit. I learned the hard way on my last car that even ~1 week of driving with the rubber contacting the paint directly resulted in etching into the clearcoat. Polished it out, sprayed on a few coats of plastidip and problem solved.

Did you end up putting the sealant on it? I just got the Thule Sonic - Large for my S4 and was going to put Opti-Coat on it.

The top lid plastic felt "Sticky" when it was new. So, I put on some Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant on it last night and it takes 12 hours to cure. I only put it on the top lid. Made the sticky surface go away and now its as smooth as my car's paint. No adverse affects on it this morning. I'd try putting on some opti-coat on an inconspicuous area to test it out before doing the whole lid.

Yeah, will test it out under the decal area. My plan was to remove the Thule decals and replace with Quattro. So I'll test out the area that will get covered with new decals.

Can't remember if I've posted in here or not. I pretty much carried over the setup from my b5 to the b8. Whispbars - flush bars and a Thule alpine sonic. The quietest setup I've ever heard. Couldnt be more pleased! More real pictures to follow!http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/26/01d298e91a6980a2b1b820f3508ce412.jpg

For reference:

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/26/676625a0080fb92935c1f82ac9c7ea76.jpg

As for those talking about sealant. I had this box on my b5 for an entire year and through a brutal CT winter, several ski trips to Vermont, a trip down to Maryland, etc. It is extremely durable and still looks new even after a year and a half of ownership and lots of use. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet, practical setup.

For upkeep, I gave it the same treatment, top and bottom, that I give to the car during a car wash. Seemed to work well.

It fits a set of golf clubs, 4-5 snowboards or a lot of skis.

They re made by a company called Seasucker.
I have been using them as well for a couple years.
I usually put them on the rear windshield with the rear bike tire on the trunk.
Keeps the bike lowers and therefore a bit less wind resistance
