View Full Version : Newer coilpack revision than "F" ???

I just go my package from GAP and I was surprised to see I didn't get the revision F coil packs since I specified that I need the last revision.
I researched a bit but couldn't find much, found this link though saying
"This is the new "H-A" version coil pack this is the most current version of the coil pack for your 2.0T which supercedes the A, B, C, D and F versions."

http://www.urotuning.com/shop/ignition-coil-pack-ha-version-20t25l-p-1018.html

So I guess the ones that ECS and europaparts sell now are not the last revision? Or I got the wrong part?
The ones I received have this part number 06H905115A

I just used the recall on my coilpacks at the dealership not but 20days ago. That part number is 06H-905-115. So maybe they have revised again.

thats interesting, especially cuz I'm about to put in new coils. I have the red "E" version, which thought were identical to F except for he color. I haven't heard anyone complain about the e/f revision so I wonder why this new one was necessary.

ECS has 06H905115B listed as superseding 06H905115A.

Pretty sure B is greater than A. [:D]

These are the Coil packs from the Mk6 GTI. THeres a ton of threads about them... They're actually better than the 07K905715F as many have reported since they are a bit stronger and provide a better spark. Its mostly anecdotal evidence so take that as you will. Should work just fine in our Audi's though.

Please show me the link cause I only see these ones under b7 2.0

Just search the part number and it comes up. Plus they're on sale!

They're also listed under the Mk 6 GTI product section.

What I'm saying is that ECS or europaparts don't have the last revision coil pack under the b7 2.0 section. That's how most of people buy parts, they go look under the right section not by part numbers.
If they really sell them, they should fix their website and don't confuse people unless they're trying to get rid off the rev F stock before.

So I'm just trying to let people know there's a new revision and they should not spend money on F.

I've been running the red ones for a few months now, though I doubt they're the same as rev.F
Audi tech told me I should not be running them since they're for 3.2 V6
... I know, I know many people use them with no problems.

Well lets be clear.

The coil packs aren't FOR the Audi. They were never meant to be used in an Audi. They are VW parts for the GTI. Yes they work, but they aren't meant for the Audi so ECS doesn't market them as such.

I think it would be a bad thing for people to think that they are the same as the Rev "F" coil packs as they are different part number altogether. The REV "F" coilpacks are the latest Audi Approved coilpacks. and thus they would probably be appropriate for most people.

I ran these for a little under a year with very few problems and I still have them but now they are in a box in my garage.

I posted about them in an older thread (can't find it now) and some knucklehead on here said they were "old" because of the "A" in the part number to which I didn't bother responding to because it would have been a waste of my time.

So you're saying the ones I got from GAP are for VW? I'm not sure where you're getting with this.
It was simple, I said there might be another revision after F since and AUDI dealer sent them to me as the latest revision? Where I was not clear?

I'm not trying to be contentious. I'm just saying they're a VW part not an Audi part. To you and me it doesn't matter, but to Audi dealers it probably would. If its not an "Audi Approved" part that is specified to work specifically in the B7 then they might throw a fit, even if the coilpacks fit just fine AND work perfectly well if not better than the "F" revisions.

Its really interesting that GAP sent you the "A"s. They are pretty on top of their shit so I would trust them. I wonder want a dealer near me would give me. Do you think they are fulfilling the extended warranty with the H-A coilpacks now since GAP is just the online arm of an Audi dealer in San Diego...

Edit: I have to apologize, I forgot I was in the B7 forum. A lot of the B6 guys are swapping in the 06H coils into the 1.8t. A number of places sell a spacer kit to use any FSI coils in the 1.8t.

Ok, now I'm a bit confused, I just called the dealer I used to take my car to and they gave me this part no 07K905715F as being the last revision which is "F".
I'm writing an email to GAP to confirm.

The ones I knew as last revision for B7 2.0 is 07K905715F - I confirmed this with my dealer as well
The ones I received : 06H905115A

UPDATE: I just received a phone call from somebody at GAP.com after sending them a message (that was fast!!!).
He said that Audi just put out a new Coil campaign and this is the latest and better revision. He said the 07K905715F one shows as the last one in the catalog(I don't know how this works but I guess dealers catalogs don't show this one), but the one I received is the very last one 06H905115A as GAP confirmed.

Since I am a certified parts master and have been selling vw and audi parts at dealers for close to a decade now I will chime in. 06H-905-115 and 07K-905-715-F are both acceptable coils for the fsi and newer tsi engine. Both of those numbers are ok to use as per the coil recall as well as the red 06E-905-115-E coils. There are actually some older numbers that are considered ok to use too but I won't get into that. I have run all three part numbers on my modified B7 with no issue. I currently use the red coils because they look nice with a black valve cover.

Etka calls for the 07K-905-715-F coil as the catalog replacement for the fsi motors in both brands. The later tsi cars depending on vin number call for either the 07K or 06H coil. My work etka and my copy at home have both brands and are the latest update so thats what the catalog says as I type this up. We were always taught when it comes to ignition coils, any current recall/tsb/bulletin supersedes anything etka says. However if I remember correctly the recall notice vw gave us state not to mix the 07K-905-715-E coils with any other part number or damage my occur. I don't think any dealer still uses that revision though. My current dealer is vw only so I don't know what audi says about that, I have the feeling its the same notice with different letter head.

As for a new revision being out for the 06H coils, there is a new revision. They have a "B" coil out but there is a stop sale with a notice saying using 06H-905-115-A instead, so going by that "A" is technically the latest available revision. I have had both coils side by side and short of the letter at the end I still don't know the difference. Many times a new part number could simply mean corporate is using a different manufacturer, other times it says they have an updated version out. I am not sure of the case with the 06H coils but as of now, we have seen no difference in performance at the store I am at between the part numbers. In fact since the last coil campaign was out I have seen less than 5 of the new recall coils go bad. For the amount of recalls we have done at the dealer, that is pretty good. My .02 cents, [:p][drive]

Of course I forgot to add in what the current recall says. Acceptable coil numbers for the fsi are 07K-905-115-D/E/F, 06F-905-115-F, 06H-905-115, 06D-905-115-K, 06E-905-115-D and 06E-905-115-E. If a car comes in and doesn't have any of those number we are to install either 06H-905-115 or 06E-905-115-E. I don't see the revision to the recall to include the 06H-905-115-A yet but the plain does indeed supersede to the "A" as per parts on command.

It is the same basically. The E coil is the one that cannot be mixed. But the F is not acceptable to be used under the campaign (though I am aware that it is what comes up in ETKA). Again, this is directly from the campaign

 Check part number of each ignition coil
 Any coil with one of these part numbers does not
need to be replaced:
o 07K 905 715 D (black)
o 07K 905 715 E (black)
o 07K 905 715 F (black)
o 06F 905 115 F (black)
o 06H 905 115 (black)
o 06D 905 115 K (red)
o 06E 905 115 D (red)
o 06E 905 115 E (red)
 If coil(s) are not as listed above, proceed to next
step
 Reinstall or replace ignition coil(s) with the
following:
o 06H 905 115 (black)
o 06E 905 115 E (red)

Note: Mixing of valid part numbers is
permitted, with the exception of part
number 07K 905 715E
Damage may occur to engine if part

Not sure what your point is, if it works fine why waste money? I mean sure if you need peace of mind, grab a spare for the trunk.

your "D" coilpacks are in the good list.

Give the thread a read before replying, EVERYTHING is here.

Just like jay-bee said, is not much to it. If you really want the piece of mind grab the last revision and keep them in your trunk. There are people here wished they had a spare set in the trunk.
Or you could wait until they go bad, by then maybe they'll have another revision.

Long story short, you want these plugs and coil packs depending on your modifications.

Apparently the R8 coil packs aren't far off the Okadas in terms of ohms.

Read more here, http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45050

"We have the 06E905115E "Red Top" Audi coil packs in stock and ready to ship

If you are the owner of a FSI/TSI powered car and you're experiencing misfires we stock the R8 coil packs. These come stock in most of the high output Audi engines and we've had good luck using these when the stock FSI/TSI coils fail, which we've seen a lot of lately. We also highly recommend using these coils when installing a K04.

The coil packs can be purchased online by clicking the above image or HERE

Here's a shot of some of the coil packs getting ready to be packed up and sent out today.

For those of you looking for more technical data on these coil packs, here is what we've found so far with our bench ( oscilloscope ) testing:

1) These coils can be used on your FSI/TSI engine at ANY level of modification. They function just as well on a dead stock car as a highly modified one.

2) They are NOT the same coils with red housings. The secondary circuit on the R8 coils has a higher resistance (more windings) than the stock coils. In fact the secondary circuits were slightly closer to the Okadas we tested than the secondary of the stock coils.

3) We tested these between 12 and 16 volts (remember if your alternator is charging properly the input will be right around 14). We tested them between 200 and 16,000rpm. The stock coils started to misfire at a much lower rpm than the R8's with a stock spark plug gapped @ .032".

4) The spark was visibly brighter and more intense on the R8's when compared to the stock coils @ every rpm we compared in the stock rev range. We didn't compare anything under 1,000rpm.

5) We were able to open the gap on the plugs much further with the R8's than the stock plug with out misfiring at the same rpm/voltage.

6) Here is what we were finding as an AVERAGE on the secondary circuit for each of the coils.

Stock: 3.3 M ohms
5 cylinder coils: 4.75 M ohms
R8's: 5.31 M ohms
Okadas: 6.2 M ohms

We've been receiving plenty of questions regarding what spark plugs we run in our local customer cars as well as our in house MK6's. Here is the break down of what spark plugs we recommend along with the gap recommendation.

There's probally some performance gained but most likely not enough to feel it. If I remember the okadas gained 20 WHP that may net 12-17 if that, maybe, sorta, kinda. Idk I may get them as their not all that much more.

I just installed the R8 coil packs and wow I am very impressed. I just installed the APR K04 s3 kit and noticed a slight stumble at 3.5k rpms. Plugs had less than 5k on them and the coil packs were about a year old and newest revision.

Since I put these new coil packs in the car idles MUCH smoother, throttle response is a bit better and zero hesitation from idle to redline.

I'm sold in these. Anyone experiencing an odd misfire that they cannot fix, try these out. I believe they were $17 each on amazon.

Bumping this up in hopes of a sticky. Might have to give these a shot after I pick up a vagcom and see what my stumbling is caused by...

Brandon, i just "upgraded" mine to the Rev E, the red ones that are on the 4.2FSI & 5.2FSI. I did notice that under WOT, my car felt a little bit smoother. Not sure if was a subconscious thing or not though. Regardless, they look killer compared to the black ones.

That's all I needed to hear...the red is decidedly badass. For $18 on amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Volkswagen-Coil-Pack-06E-905-115-E/dp/B008QXZ5UI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1378397830&sr=8-1&keywords=06E905115E), it's hard to say no. Once I get my vagcom, or if I actually get a cel for a misfire, then I'll make my move.

I had a misfire in in cylinder one. I could not how to fix it. I placed the R8 coilpacks and sparkplugs and problem solved. Without this thread I would still be misfiring.

So are these CPs still failing? Mine were replaced a while ago under the recall before I purchased my car and just had 2 die on me over the weekend. What's the normal life of them?

EDIT: should add the ones that failed were Bosch 06H905115, replaced with OEM (now made by Eldor) 07K905715F

I've been running these 07k revision F coils packs for 3+ years combined on two different a4s and roughly 20k miles and haven't had a single failure.

Mine were changed back in 2010 with the Bosch so maybe the 07kF Eldors will be better. Hoping I don't have an electrical problem with the harness or something - is it not normal for them to fail?

Does the newer TSI engine include the B8 TSIs?

Of course I forgot to add in what the current recall says. Acceptable coil numbers for the fsi are 07K-905-115-D/E/F, 06F-905-115-F, 06H-905-115, 06D-905-115-K, 06E-905-115-D and 06E-905-115-E. If a car comes in and doesn't have any of those number we are to install either 06H-905-115 or 06E-905-115-E. I don't see the revision to the recall to include the 06H-905-115-A yet but the plain does indeed supersede to the "A" as per parts on command.

It is the same basically. The E coil is the one that cannot be mixed. But the F is not acceptable to be used under the campaign (though I am aware that it is what comes up in ETKA). Again, this is directly from the campaign

 Check part number of each ignition coil
 Any coil with one of these part numbers does not
need to be replaced:
o 07K 905 715 D (black)
o 07K 905 715 E (black)
o 07K 905 715 F (black)
o 06F 905 115 F (black)
o 06H 905 115 (black)
o 06D 905 115 K (red)
o 06E 905 115 D (red)
o 06E 905 115 E (red)
 If coil(s) are not as listed above, proceed to next
step
 Reinstall or replace ignition coil(s) with the
following:
o 06H 905 115 (black)
o 06E 905 115 E (red)

Note: Mixing of valid part numbers is
permitted, with the exception of part
number 07K 905 715E
Damage may occur to engine if part
number 07K 905 715E is mixed with
other coils

EDIT: sorry for the duplicate info, you posted up while I was copying and pasting from the campaign

Any changes/updates to this info?
Are these still the most up to date part numbers?

Thanks in advance friends!
