How would you feel if I said I never got a CEL (that I didn’t cause myself by unplugging things) in the 5 years I owned my b6?
And in the 5 years I’ve owned my b7 I’ve gotten one once?
Yeah but you are still photographed fixing it on Google maps.... Sooooo.... ;)

I ended my longest distance streak without a CEL...3900 km. The time to beat.

I'd remind you that two data points don't constitute a trend; incidentally, it doesn't change a lick about the way I feel. Wouldn't even consider the B7 in any analysis.
Code is for evap system, something about a "very small leak".
Haha. Yea just rubbing salt in the wound. My b7 consumes oil @ 1qt/1200miles so it’s hardly the picture of good health.

A dear friend of mine has a '13 Golf with the 2.0 TFSI... he changes the filter only, and just lets the oil light tell him to fill 'er up again. [headbang] When I first got my 1.8 it seemed unfathomable that I add 1/2 L of oil every 10,000 km- now I'm thankful it needs only that.

Yup. At this point I’ve changed my oil twice when I go to “change my oil” this weekend. Still gotta do it to get the diluted old shit out if there and change the filter. But yea it’s stupid. My b6 didn’t consume anything over the course of a 9k mile interval so you could say I miss that.
I think I’ve got piston ring issues but I’m loathe to open up the engine until I have sufficient “while I’m in there” funds to do a light bottom end build/refresh.
Or maybe just pop in a used Mk6 GolfR engine and call it a day...

I thought that was just '99.5 MKIV Jetta 2.0L 8V
(piston rings stamped upside down at factory in Mexico, resulting in high oil consumption)
Didn't know it happens to more cars
I think VW offered to rebuild or replace those engines too - not sure if there was a mileage limit on when it "had to be done", unless they "good will" it.

Yea same thing it got stamped upside down. I am not sure but I wanna say certain 06 2.0 a4's were affected and proving to them is a pain. They typically would replace the engine and no clue what mileage or years they cover or even if they still honor it. I didn't know the 99 2.0 had the same issue. Wouldn't they get it right after the first round. Lol
Charles: I have heard way too many stories like that. That's why I would always tell people about the follower and why it's always a good idea to keep tabs on it.

Yup. The engine only had 54k miles on it when I bought it. I didn’t get a PPI. Sorta my own fault but i was too chubby over the fact it was a 6mt avant Titanium package that mb heart override my head. And the exterior was in excellent condition. Top tip: always get a PPI kids.
Oil burning is fairly endemic in the b7 but the actual replacement program due to manufacturing defects is only applicable to early b8 ea888 2.0t engines. The b7 engines are exempt.
I have no way of knowing if the oil burning is due to abuse from the previous owner or if it’s always been like that since the car was new. Nothing on the carfax and no way to get records from the dealer since it’s kicked around in Oregon before I bought it. Kinda sucks but since I plan on keeping the car pretty much forever (last of the manual avants!) an engine rebuild just counts as ongoing maintenance costs. Plus I can drop in some rods and I’m ready for a s3 k04 or TD05.

Sadly i dont think a PPI would have saved you even. When i was looking at car's i inquired about a PPI with Achtuning and Audi of Bellevue both said their PPI's did not include inspection of the HPFP/follower.

Huh. I would have insisted since it’s like an extra 15 minutes for them. But yea a standard ppi usually doesn’t involve removing parts like fuel pumps.
I just assumed that since it was a 2008 with all the updated parts it would be cured of the cam failures that affected 2005-2007 cars. It had the updated parts alright but the root problem remained sadly. It is what it is at his point.
Charles- do you have an estimate on how much oil you are consuming per 1,000 miles or so, and oil weight used? It's so hit and miss regarding the oil consumption for ea113 motors, some will consume oil like a 13b and others less than a quart per 5k OCIs. Ea113's have their areas of concern however they do last; highest mileage B6/B7 I have worked on was an '08 Quattro/Tip sedan with 277,000 miles (back in 2013), that came in with a bad cam follower. This was the first one, too, and did not have the revised camshaft if I remember correctly.

I was fortunate, I would only have to put in a quart every 3500 miles so by the 2nd time I would have to it would be time to change the oil. I changed the follower ever other oil change so about 12-14k miles just to be on the safe side and even though the 08 has the revised cam it didn't mean that they were immune to the cam follower crap. I am just glad I didn't have the banjo bolts for the hpfp. I thought a hand full of guys were able to get aoa to replace their engine because of the upside down rings. Maybe because they were still in warranty. Yea Charles you got a gem. If I was you I would go with the 20g. The ko4 is fun though. 277k is a very high mileage especially in 13' must have been maintained very well and a ton of highway miles.

Yup. I monitor it on Fuelly and it’s been nearly bang on 1200miles/quart for the past 20k miles. Plus or minus 50-100 miles. At least it’s consistent.
I tend to run longer intervals anyway, usually ran 8k miles on my b6. And I do about the same on my b7. Mann filters. Rotella T6 5w40 (on the b6 and the b7). I usually top off with Castrol 5w40 just because it’s so easy to find and I can never find Rotella in quarts.
I’ve tried Castrol for the change as well since it’s factory fill and no real difference in consumption. I see no reason to switch from Rotella since it’s treated me very well in the b6.

I haven't looked into additive products, such as Lubro-Moly products like Jectron, G17, BG-44K, etc.

A new fender is definitely in order. The bottoms of the doors are okay, except for maybe the driver front. Thankfully the worst part is covered by the door blade. I used chassis saver and it seems to be holding up pretty good.
I just couldn't justify paying for paintwork/bodywork. I just bought a q5 and I dumped more money into the a4 this past year than it is worth. I already had the paint so I figured it was worth a shot to fix some of the stuff to help me sell the car.

Yes I need both sets for these Utah winters. Also already sourced some b6 s4 avant recaros to pick up on my way back to Utah. Only 15 minutes off the beaten path. Gonna be tight to get 5 wheels and a full set of recaros plus me in the car. Good thing I'm skinny.
I've waited 4 years to find this car. I can wait a couple more weeks.

pads and rotors all around
found an old thread (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/601251-A-beginners-guide-to-selecting-rotors-written-by-a-begiiner-after-lots-of-research) about Brake Performance out of California and decided to reach out and see if they still honored their audizine member discount, and they did! Was very happy with their customer service, pricing, and shipping. Discount was a bit more than 35% off just for mentioning audizine.
Tried out a DIY garage here in Austin and was also super happy. $25/hour for a bay with a lift and tools or $15 for just a bay w/tools (tools: all the basic stuff, including an air gun) The apartment complex I live at doesn't allow any work to be done in the parking lots so this place was perfect.

I'm paying 9,500$ with both sets of wheels. I have been looking for an arctic white USP avant 1.8t 6mt quattro for 4 years now. I couldn't pass it up.
The high miles are not a problem to me (other plans, cue 2.7 swap comments) and the recent maintenance that showed up on the car fax gave me a lot of feel goods on top of that. It will be a garage queen because I have a daily driver so I'm not worried about the engine lasting for quite a few years.
The fact it's bagged already helped justify the higher price because I don't have to buy the kit and do the work.
Not sure if I want to ask what he bought it for though.

I too want more gauges for pressure and temperature (who doesn't?). Every car should have it, and Audi shouldn't have done away with them.
But why not get a VFIZ instead? It integrates with the cluster.
You already got a nice-looking P3 instead of a vent pod. May as well do a similar look with VFIZ, no?

Well since your location says CA, I heard CA is what's called a 'No Fault State', meaning that extra taxes are paid to set aside a pool of money, that the state can use to pay out for accidents, if people don't have insurance. I don't know if that's true.
A windshield is "only" $200-$500. Not sure which is the best glass to opt for, and who to have install it. Not only where they do the job, but if they use high-quality sealant.
After 10 years, mine needs replacement anyway, from all the tiny chips that make it hard to see through when the sun hits it.
Maybe I'll even tint it as well.
I'm scared that if I ask a tech to install it in the summer in sunny heat, they might not take their time to do a good job in that miserable environment (I don't blame them), versus waiting until winter when it's cooler outside.
But that's Safelite. They come in a truck. Or do they have a garage too?
What about if Audi dealerships do it; maybe they do it at the actual dealership?
Wonder if your insurance will cover it.
Is it just me or is that a carbon fiber hood?

True. Looks like you can watch the gauge bar in real time, versus squinting trying to make out/read digits on the cluster.
I've heard it mentioned before, that the low oil pressure warning on these cars isn't triggered until it's scary low.
I wonder if this value can be changed in the ECU or something, to set it higher, to come on earlier warning you if there's a problem.
But I don't know if this will constantly trigger it on start-up, when oil pressure might still be lower.

I see. Well what if there is only one cover part number?
Maybe it's just there to shield the top from any water raining down from above, that could enter throw the windshield bottom cowling.
Which it also pulls air from, through the vents.
Some people died from that, when there was an exhaust leak.

Yes its a eurogear boser style CF hood.
Total for windshield and a full set of power mirrors Im less than my deductible anyways
Circumstances for the pedestrian to be at fault in CA is slim. Even with some jaywalking the driver can be held at fault.

'Solar' may imply special tint and heat-rejection built into it, maybe in the laminate.
"Laminated glass is made up of two pieces of glass, with a thin layer of vinyl between them"
All windshields are laminate, to break in a safe way if you're in a crash.

True. The PANIC button broke/fell off on mine in my pocket and I lost it, after some time.
Did you match them to the car in VCDS? I tried doing this with my two stock fobs
A. to make sure they're in the system
B. to restore fob functions after disconnecting battery
and I'm not sure if it worked.
Your combi valve is toast as well.
Not too well-versed in combi valves. Wonder if this is something to be entirely replaced ($$?)
or if it can be serviced
I know being an exhaust-related part, there is probably carbon soot built up inside of it.
But IDK if cleaning that out (how?) would restore functionality.

It really isn't serviceable. It has a metal diaphragm to handle the heat. Once it goes bad replacement is the only option.

You might be able to clean it, unless the valve and/or vacuum diaphragm has failed in any way. I just replaced mine. It didn't come as a complete unit, just the valve was replaced. The body that attaches to the head was re-used. It also wasn't cheap, so you might try cleaning it. I know mine was very crapped up and chose not to bother with it.
If you haven't put a new pump on, you might just try deleting the SAI system. USP motorsports sells a kit that includes the block-off plate and a resistor that, I believe, gets plugged in to the pump connector to simulate the existence of the pump.

Be aware that the resistor will only prevent you from getting a DTC for a failed pump. You will still get a DTC for incorrect flow unless you have it written out by a tuner.

Thanks. Didn't know that.
Have always heard the topic of SAI deletion, but was scared it might force me early into having to make the expensive decision of which tune to get ($350-500+) to code it out.
Not something I'm trying to do just yet, as I'm not sure my plans for the car.
Supporting mods would add cost.
Unless this is something that can be learned to code out, browsing tune files on nefmoto, etc. - if one goes the extra mile to avoid the resistor.
Not sure if that will still set readiness or how it works.

Just out of curiosity, how is flow measured on the SAI system? I don't know of any sensors in the system. I assumed that the system assumes proper flow if it thinks everything is working.
The ECM utilizes the front wideband O2 sensor to determine the correct flow. On a cold start the fueling is in an open loop condition. The combi valve opens and the SAI pump adds additional air. At the same time the CCA advances the intake cam the full 22°. The ignition timing goes to around 5° ATDC. This pushes some of the fuel ignition further downstream and the final burn occurs in the front section of the cat. This gets the cat quickly up to temperature. Then somewhere around 60 seconds the pump cuts off, the combi valve closes and the ECM goes into a closed loop condition.
Here's where the incorrect flow can get triggered. Approximately 45 seconds after the SAI cycle completes the ECM performs a self-check on the system. It again opens the combi valve and turns on the pump for about 5 seconds. At this point since it is now in a closed loop condition it expects to see a radical change in the A/F ratio from the increased air being injected into the exhaust stream. If it doesn't see this change for two cold starts in a row it will give you a P0411 Secondary Air Injection Incorrect Flow Detected DTC and also turn on the CEL.

True. The PANIC button broke/fell off on mine in my pocket and I lost it, after some time.
Did you match them to the car in VCDS? I tried doing this with my two stock fobs
A. to make sure they're in the system
B. to restore fob functions after disconnecting battery
and I'm not sure if it worked.
Not too well-versed in combi valves. Wonder if this is something to be entirely replaced ($$?)
or if it can be serviced
I know being an exhaust-related part, there is probably carbon soot built up inside of it.
But IDK if cleaning that out (how?) would restore functionality.
Ya, I matched the immobilizer to the cluster and then programmed the FOB with VCDS. It will either work or it won’t... if it yours aren’t working properly, maybe a step was missed?
I actually have a couple spare Combi Valves but I don’t have CAT’s in either of my 1.8T’s so there’s no point in installing one of the spares.

Thanks for the breakdown of the SAI cycle... I know how it works but didn’t know some of the finer details [up]
I’m still going through some maintenance things that the PO had neglected... found the SAI pump was full of water.

Hopefully it's OK to use Fuchs Titan SintoFluid SAE75w80 (normally a gearbox fluid), because the front diff is just an hypoid gear open diff, so maybe it would be fine with something like Motul Gear 300 (75w90, thicker), IDK. Since it's not shared used by synchros if it were manual.

I have Gear 300 in the rear diff but opted for a slightly lighter weight up front for cold weather startups/operation during the winter here. 75w80 in the centre diff too.
It’s pretty dusty in my neighbourhood from new home construction so I think that’s what you’re seeing on the CV Boot... worth keeping an eye on though.
My Combi Valve is still on the block but it’s not quite as clean as that one... actually, neither are the two spare's I have.

I don't get it. I thought people make that preference on manuals, because Gear 300 can have notchy shift feel on cold starts. Because it uses synchros.
Otherwise, manual uses the same fluid (3.5L?) for everything. It's just the shifting that people complain about.
Whereas yours is automatic.
The rear diff may work the same way as the front diff, as both are 'open diff' hypoid gear.

I think you’re right about the usual preference but consider that a lighter oil will simply move better than a heavier oil in cold weather... so the gear will lubricate more quickly.
Same reason you might run a lighter engine oil - to get cold weather lubrication happening as quickly as possible regardless of weather it's felt it or not.
If 75w80 turns out to be ill-suited to the task I’ll just change it out.

Replaced passenger cv axle as preventive maintenance given that both boots on my OEM axle had torn many months ago.
I also finally did my rear differential fluid as well. However, the front differential fill bolt would not budge! I shot it w/ WD-40 and used a heavy duty impact wrench and nothing! I wasn't sure if it wasn't meant to be removed but now I see it can be. I'll give it another shot next time.

Started with the usuals. Heat, AeroKroil, hammer, etc. - didn't work. Cut a groove into it with a dremel, to try twisting it open with a flathead screwdriver. Also didn't work.
Ended up hammering in an oversized torx bit, which broke it loose. I forget if I used any helper tools, such as twisting the bolt-head with channellocks, to try and make it easier on the torx. The bit was strong enough to survive without getting mangled. This broke it loose.
See that red mark? Not sure if that's indicative of red loctite used at the factory, in accordance with Audi's "Lifetime fill" policy.
Might've stripped the allen. It's only a Craftsman, so it probably doesn't fit as well as more expensive tools like Snap-On.

The Ti was actually traded in my local home town Ford dealer, went in drove it, felt amazing, low miles, everything done to it. had a great service history. Car came from California not seeing a winter. and Amazing price....one catch to why I cant get it. They would only offer 6k for my VW which I owe 11K left so then that extra 5k would go onto the B7 making it around 11-12k and they only value it at 7700 so they said they wouldnt find a Bank that would do that for a 10 year old car. I am trying to sell the GTI out right for 10K quick so I can get into the Audi so we will see what happens.
I F***ing hate it because I absolutely loved it Red 6speed Nav TI almost new tires, not a single dent or ding and a crap done in services.

That blows. I’m not too proud to admit I rolled in a couple grand of debt when I traded my old b7 tiptronic avant (super base model spec) in for the Ti 6mt avant I have now. Almost done paying it off. I chose 6year financing because the interest rate my bank gave me was so damn low the difference in interest really wasn’t that much and I wanted the lower payment so I could have some flexibility paying it off.
Looking back I’m not entirely certain it was responsible to do what I did but no ragrets. I love my b7...

My car is a 2005 (B6) "3.oh! it goes a lot faster when I maintain it" with 01V that is running great now that the transfer case/ctr. diff has fluid in it.
I do have to use the woodblock, previously used between jack and center subframe, now to roll one wheel on top in order to get just enough clearance for the jack to reach that new jack point. The nub fits perfect into the jack and it's a solid spot.

That is interesting... the cast piece looks a lot beefier and like it would stabilize the front end better than the stamped piece. I’ve never seen one though so I can’t really compare.

Manuals use the cast aluminum rear crossmember, because on the B6 they mount in the middle with one center mount.
The bow shape is to accommodate one exhaust downpipe (1.8T), or two, from a V engine
FWD gearboxes have an additional brace on it at the back; a metal bar, that otherwise would get in the way of an AWD gearbox.
Automatic uses a different subframe, that has ears welded onto the sides, to hold two side mounts.

https://c1552172.ssl.cf0.rackcdn.com/533459_x800.jpg
Looks like Jet Jockey modified his to fit solid subframe "bushing" inserts:

http://assets.suredone.com/1517/media-photos/cp023148-front-subframe-engine-support-97-02-vw-passat-audi-a4-18t-automatic.jpg
There is a DTS (Drivetrain Stabilizer) for the B5 that seems to take place of this (the B5 otherwise doesn't have it; it's manual gearbox has two sidemounts unlike ours)- but while our factory piece is cast aluminum, maybe their aftermarket DTS option is a stronger metal and more expensive.

Who knows how long it's been leaking. It wasn't until I was researching about differential refills that I came across posts about the output shaft seal being a common failure. Both the symptoms and pictures of oil leak pattern that were posted pretty much led me check the transfer case/ctr differential fluid level. Looks like an easy enough task.

When I bought my Avant I did some preventative maintenance right away. One of those things was changing the rear diff fluid... and one of the axle seals one I noticed it was leaking. Apparently that’s not uncommon for these cars but thankfully it was an easy fix. Output shaft seal sounds a little messier though...
If it is leaking from behind the axle flange, you need this seal:
http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/01V_409_399/ES2622454/
Check that fill plug can be removed, unbolt axle, move out of the way, unbolt and remove flange, shower of gear oil (watch out!), replace seal, reinstall everything, fill with new gear oil (synthetic 75w90), reinstall plug.
New coolant flange if it is leaking, yep.
If the CV grease is just squirting out the edges some, you can try to tighten the clamp a bit. Sometimes the clamp actually cuts into the boot over time, in that case: new boot.

Car wasn't shifting in any gear while running, but shifted while it was off. Decided to start the car In gear before I pulled the trans and look at the clutch. It worked :). What was supposed to be a 10 minute rear brake light bulb change, became a four hour nachtmare, removing the right rear trim in order to fish out the spacer for the tail light that came unscrewed and fell down into the body frame. [down]
I did this to disconnect the alarm siren, but haven't figured out what (if anything) to do to it, and how (battery replacement, etc.)
The bottom of the control board had corrosion.
Found my dropped tail-light screw while I was in there, pulled it with a mini telescoping magnet.
Good pic, now I know where to put back the two grey foam pad pieces that fell off.
Hopefully I won't lose the screws, by keeping them threaded back where they originally came from, despite large interior pieces being still out.
Discovered the sound system doesn't work unless I put the sub and amp back in.
If removing a bad prior tint job to re-do it, I wonder if removing panels aids in catching any water that drips down, or if it will safely evaporate on its own without corroding anything, since it's not a constant long-term supply of saltwater.

Reminds me of my hood. Can't tell if it's got some fading from the sun beating down on it, or hot engine bay temps.
I believe some people run theirs without the liner, claiming that it's just a pad there to drape/suffocate the engine if a fire melts the clips, and do dampen sound (if you wanna hear more engine noise).
With or without the pad, I wonder if it's worth putting something like DEI Reflect-A-Gold Tape on the main triangle portions.
If it stands out, the pad would hide/cover it.

I hope it wouldn't eventually fall down/off due to heat and gravity; mine seemed to start peeling off under a 3L intake manifold.
Versus tightly wrapped around an intake, which secures itself.

Originally got that idea from a B6 S4, whose owner has since taken the manifold off again to put a different insulation.

I would assume so. Just so long as you have a RNS-E.
I went searching for how to enable it and found this article: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/504815-Navigation-in-the-Instrument-Cluster
The coding also appears to be consistent throughout the entire B6/7 line, according to Ross-Tech.
The value of channel 62 on my car was 17. I changed it to 21 (+4 for Navigation: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Audi_A4_(8E)_Instrument_Cluster_(8EC/8ED/8HE)), turned off the car, then back on again. Took it for a drive and set a destination.

I agree that it may not work best. I left messages on my home phone from the car with just the deck's built-in mic, then the aftermarket mic before I put it in there. The external sounded a bit better, but not by much. I won't use it a lot and it came with the stereo, so I thought it would be better there along with a clean look.

Got the tires rotated and pressures checked.
Which pressure? I think I've kept mine at 32 all around.
Will check them with hand-gauge before getting to near fill station, to avoid a long drive that heats them up (increases pressure). I guess if it's 30 and I add +2 to get 32, if heat makes it 32 I could just add +2 to make it 34. And it will shrink back down to 32 cold. Unless it's supposed to be 32 hot when in operation, and thus 30 cold?
Not sure if sitting in the sun has the same effect, versus doing this on a cool morning or night.
I guess having a compressor would be easier.

Lol, not yet. Was happy just to finally get the thing moving again. Had some routine minor surgery on Thursday with ~20 stitches total so I already went beyond what I should have done this weekend lol. Laying under the car on my back would have been too much [:o]
Probably gonna be 4 weeks before the S4 RSB goes in [:/] Will have to wait for stitches to come out, then will be out of town for 2 weeks.
Where did the stg 3 bits go?
Presently, they're in a box next to my workbench.
Haven't fully decided what to do with everything... i.e. put APR mani + TIP + turbo + MAF housing in my B5, then retune B5? Or sell the tune + injectors + MAF housing and get different MAF housing for B5?
Or maybe I'll just sell the whole APR Stage 3+ kit?!? [wrench]

Did you change the seat belt warning to blue? Or is that just my phone playing tricks on me???
Yeah, I wanted to try and swap in new LEDs. I bought white, red, blue, green, yellow. In most cases I replaced with the original LED color, in others I tried to be creative. Did not work in out in every case - LOL. I need to go back and swap a few. The blue seatbelt I can live with, but blue turn indicators is driving me nuts.

So have been looking for Recaros for what seems like a long time. Obviously they are out there, but I was hoping to find a deal near to home. I recently found these a3 seats for a great price. Installed and have been working on seatbelt install and wiring over the past few days. Big shout out to AvantNoir for help on the project.

Earlier yesterday had the windshield replaced by safelite. Should have checked the wipers before using them this morning. The "technician" left the wipers semi lose and the whole assembly went to shit. One of the aero blades came off the wiper arm and the whole assembly went off track. Have to get in there at some point and release the mechanism and let the motor park itself at home. For now my blades are on viagra but I have a new Chinese American windshield yay

Looking good Thomas! Those look like they came out of a Titanium Package A3. Really like the cloth centers and the "S-Line" embossed in the seat back. Glad I could help.

Finally got around to replacing the thermostat housing and the ABS module. Went ahead and installed the K04, injectors, and APR ecu as well. Havent tried to start her up yet. The front clip is going back on tomorrow and then we'll get to see how she runs.

Flushed my coolant today... put the NAPA Euro formula in and it’s yellow. Tempted to flush it out with some pink stuff.

A3 seats bolt in?
They have one tab in the front that needs to be cut off, but after that they fit perfectly. AvantNoir has photos of the wiring, which I am sure he would be willing to share - super helpful and easy. No codes at all.
EDIT: These are from a 2012 A3 s-line. Also, I do not want to be misleading. Yes, the seat rails match, and the wiring is straight forward, the difficulty arises from the seatbelt anchor point. On the A3 the belt anchors to the B-pillar, while on the B6 the belt anchors at the bottom of the seat. With this a notch must be cut in the A3's side seat cover/panel (if you look at the photos of the A3 seats in post 22735 above, and look closely at where the seatbelt anchors you will see the 'notch') and the belt must be anchored using a grade-10 bolt. I used an existing hole in each seat to mount the bolt/anchor point. This part was not taxing, but took time and patience to get right, as you want to be sure not to mess up the plastic, side seat panel (which takes attention and care to remove), and have a strong anchor point. I can post photos if anyone is interested.

They are not too bad actually, but there is something in familiarity. Also, the green make a sort of sense as we often culturally associate green with 'go' in the U.S., so its like the car is saying, "Yes, go, turn". Gotta love some positive affirmation from the car.
So first gen A3 is same as mkiv golf, that is definitely no fit (they have wheelbarrow / tripod mount)
second gen is like mkv golf (so mkv seats fit as well? b6 passat?)
That's what 180k looks like in the rust belt. Still function pretty well considering one of the fronts is rusted so badly that it's leaking.

Yes, you are correct. MKV and later generation VW seats will fit as well. A3 seat rail has a "locator pin" on the end of one of the rails that needs to be cut off. At that point they "bolt into" the car. The trick is the wiring and the seat belt mounting.
