My MMI is currently running version 2750. I went to the dealer and they refused to sell me the CD's and quoted me 2-3 hours of labor to get the MMI updated to the latest US version.
I was unable to find the correct ISOs online to burn some CD's to get this updated (I found the EU versions but obviously those wouldn't work - I tried) so I finally went ahead and ordered the following:
3360 (3.3.60) - Part # 4F0 906 961AB (https://thepiratebay.se/torrent/10273165/Audi_MMI_2G_update_3360_4F0906961AB.zip) (I'm told version 2750 and below have to be upgraded to 3360 before upgrading to a higher version)
4610 (4.6.10) - Part # 4F0 998 961 (https://thepiratebay.se/torrent/10273175/Audi_MMI_2G_update_4610_4F0998961.zip)
Anyway, I'm posting because if there is any interest I will rip these CD's and host the ISO's somewhere once I receive them (delivery is scheduled for Oct 1st) so anyone can grab and burn them to update their MMI without having to shell out the cash for labor to the dealer.
I'll also follow up once I run the update process on my own MMI to let you know how it goes.
** EDIT **
Here's all the info and the link to the CD ISO's in one place:
ISO's torrent: http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/7202678 (Thanks to eazy211187 for uploading the torrent)
Upgrade Process:
The update went fine and as halo guy said I didn't even need the 3360 CD. The 4610 2 CD set had everything on it I needed to do the update. I was going to write up a how-to but you literally just keep running the CD until it tells you there are no more updates. I should note, however, that I only used slot 1 in the 6 disc changer as recommended by MainlandMig.
So to clarify; steps to update:
If your phone is connected, disconnect it.
Insert one of the 2 4610 update CDs into slot 1 in the CD changer
Hold 'setup' and 'return' buttons - this brings you to a 'Current config' menu showing your current versions
Press the lower right button around the MMI control knob to select 'SWUpdate'
Select 'CDROM' as the 'Download server'
You are now presented with a menu showing you a listing of each control module and whether or not an update is available for it with either a 'Y' (Yes), 'N' (No), or 'S' (Some?), I saw the 'S' next to a module that had several subcomponents that needed updating.
In any case, you simple scroll to the bottom and select 'Run Update'
I noticed that when an updated completed, 1 or more other updates became available to run.
You repeat this process, occasionally swapping between CDs, until it tells you 'No modules selected for update' for both CDs.
That's it.
As for having the car on a battery charger, I didn't bother. I did the first few updates with key in the 'on' position, but the car not running, and all lights and electronics off. I did the next few updates with the car running. Then the last few I got reckless. I had the car in the 'on' position again, but not running. Except this time I was opening the windows, adjusting the seat, opening and closing doors. All updates still completed without a single issue. The only thing I did not do was start the car while the update was running as this would undoubtedly drop the voltage too low. The entire process took about 90 minutes with the 2 updates for the bluetooth module ('Handyvorb2') taking the longest at almost 45 minutes for the first and 15 minutes for the second.
The main difference I've noticed after the update is that I can now enable stereo-in in the hidden MMI menu. This allows me to wire a set of RCA cables up to the amp in the trunk. I'll be doing another post on this when I have completed it. There are also a few new options here and there, nothing noteworthy. The main issue I was having with my MMI that prompted me to update was that I couldn't change any of the coding with the VAG-COM, but after updating I can.
I've attached a couple pics I took along the way to give you some sort of idea what to expect. I'm also in the process of ripping the CDs to .iso files (I did it already but it was on a mac and it didn't create the iso files correctly)
The first image shows what I got when I inserted the 3360 update CD, which I believe translates to 'incomplete meta data for update, use other CD' or something like that. I just ignored it and used the 4610 CD and all was well.

I'm pretty confident I can do it myself. I must admit I have not done an MMI update to date but I have done all sorts of tweaks to my last 3 Audi's with my VAG-COM. I do know that I need to keep the car connected to a trickle charger during the update. I will definitely hit you up if I have any questions. Thank you!
What sort of issues did you run into with yours?

Can you make a this a DIY walk-thru? I would like to do this also because I am running Media Version USA_11000_2341/Databank 2043/20080225021354. There are roads in my neighborhood that I drive home on that my sat/nav says dont exist! I think I need the update!

I didn't have any problems but I did hours of research and typed out notes/tips for myself to follow in addition to the printed instructions. I did not use a batt maintainer for a few reasons.
1 I didn't own one and didn't want anything new to learn on the process.
2. it was a warm night and wanted to be able to have AC if i was going to spend some time in the car.
If u r going to use maintainer ***U have to keep in mind that the car normally shuts down MMI after a few minutes to conserve batt ***if this happens during install u will most likely risk damaging unit. There is a proper place to connect maintainer to provide steady power but I forget where that is so please do a search. Another bit of advice I can give is that be aware of what the installation communicates to u (at the end ..the results) look out for NOK (not OKs) and it may be normal to reinsert and install the same disk 2 or 3 times in a row. * certain installs are divided into modules or something meaning certain Disks have multiple modules on them.. I hope I'm making sense.... And install in slot 1 in glovebox not trunk and use one disk at a time (not disk1 in slot1 disk2 in slot2 just keep empty other slots) I think that's all I remember

Thank you very much MainlandMig that info will be very helpful. I'm in NYC for work until Wednesday night but the CDs have arrived and are sitting on my desk back home. I'll be doing the upgrade and documenting the entire process step-by-step.
...and audi314 I do have an iso image of the 2010 version of the NAV DVD which I will host alongside these MMI update CDs (haven't bought the 2011 version yet). Stay tuned, I'll keep you posted.

You don't need 3360 if you are going to 4610. It's only needed for 4140. However run the CD1 first to check for Bluetooth module FW/SW mismatch.

So with the update, What changes are expected? depends on what version u have...but like any OS update on computer products u should be getting the LATEST most COMPATIBLE n hopefully most STABLE OS.
The most important reasons y I did the update was
1. I hated the warning screen EVERY time I started MMI ( I had base version ..n update doesn't have that...still has warning screen when moving but that's OK)
2. I seem to be switching cell phones too quickly n wanted the latest blue tooth settings.
3. I plan on keeping my car a long time n figured I would get it eventually so got it out the way

I have a question about what you mentioned about the Bluetooth. Does this mean that the newer phones such as the iPhone 4S might not be compatible with the older versions of the MMI like the version that you just upgraded from?
Thanks

The iPhone 4S is the first of a wave of new phones with Bluetooth v4.0 (LATEST VERSION) BUT i don't believe the iPhone 4S should have any issues pairing w our Audis. Im sure Apple makes the 4S "backwards compatible" or includes older versions of BlueTooth w their 4.0 or maybe 4.0 itself covers all BT versions. The 4S should recognize the version of BT our Audis are equipped with and utilize that version to pair up. But it is a possibility if the manufacturer does not make phone backwards compatible. But there is other scenarios that can come to play also. too much to type. AND there were many people on forums here that had trouble with their particular cellphones and the lates Bluetooth Module took care of those issues with the update.

Here you can buy the 4610 part# 4F0-998-961 (http://www.worldimpex.com/parts/genuine-part-repair-kit-cd_933209.html)
If I were you I would either put the car on a charger or have it running (with everything turned off and not opening doors or switching anything on or off while it updates.)
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT - CHECK THE VERSION OF YOUR BLUETOOTH MODULE (Handyvorb2) FIRST AND IF FW/SW IS MISMATCHED USE THE CD-1 TO FIX IT BEFORE UPDATING THE MMI. Follow this TSB to first check and if needed to repair the BT module (Handyvorb2) (http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/3/13/883667/audi%20telephone%20RVU.pdf)
Once you satisfied that your BT is updated to the correct FW/SW version put the CD-2 in the CD slot #1 of the changer.
Then just follow the above instruction written by noskill.
Update on your own risk!

This is the update CD's for the MMI 2G system. I believe your 2011 would have the 3G but in any case, this is only a software update for various electronic components of the car itself. It doesn't update the nav maps in any way.

While not the latest, I am currently using this nav ISO from 2010 since it was much newer than what was in the car when I got it. I'm in the Boston area and I've yet to run into an issue where the maps were outdated (Though I'm sure they will be in some cases). Not sure what version you're running now. I haven't been able to find anything more recent than this. I'm keeping an eye out.

Has anyone tried burned the 2010 Navigation ISO on a DVD and put it in the Navi drive to update? After I inserted the DVD in the drive and started the MMI, it eventually prompted me if I wanted to update the Navi so I said Yes, but it was stuck on 0% progress for a very long time. I quit out of it and tried it again with the same result. I burned it onto a DVD-R blank disc. Didn't try a DVD+R. Does the Navi drive read a certain type of DVD over another? Appreciate the help!

i had same or similar issue .. i think -R doesnt work well... my 1st attempt i tried a -R (bc it was all i found) and when i was prompted for update nav i thought i was in the clear but it froze at some point... after a intense search through the closet i found some +Rs... i copied to that and inserted that disk.. oddly.. i was NOT prompted for an update w the +R but it seems like it works GREAT... i used to get CHECK DVD errors often and thought it was my nav unit *under TSB but after spending all day using nav on a trip 150 miles away i did not get any errors. (im guessing my 2009 disk had those spot imperfection on the disk itself)... anyway im very happy thanks again noskill

i burned mine to a TDK +R dvd. it updated and has worked perfectly since i started using it. not sure why i went with +R since i burn 99% of my stuff to -R....must've been either because i read somewhere +R was the way to go or because i had a bunch of these discs laying around. [:/]

It's basically just an update to make things run more smoothly, add support for AMI interface, add support for new phones to bluetooth, etc. It does add some minor features like faster scrolling but that's pretty much it.
BTW, the ISO's for the update disks are on the first post of this thread if you want to just download and burn them to some CDs instead of ordering them.

I burned the (2) 4610 files (CD1 & CD2) as an Image file on two separate CD-R's. Should I be able to open the CD's and see any files because I don't? I used Nero to burn the Image files to the CD-R.
Also I have a 2008 A6 so I'm assuming I'll only need the (2) 4610 files correct?

Yes, you should be able to see the files on the CDs after you burn them. I'm not sure what folks are using to burn these on windows. I did it on Linux with the 'dd' command. Maybe someone who was successful burning them on windows can chime in?

Sounds like you simply burned the file to disk which isn't going to work. You need to burn as an ISO Image. Also you need to use CD+R not CD-R disks.

I think the simplest solution to burn these ISO files on windows would be to install the simple free ISO Recorder utility from http://alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
This allows you to simply right click on the ISO file and select 'Burn to Disc'

It's basically just an update to make things run more smoothly, add support for AMI interface, add support for new phones to bluetooth, etc. It does add some minor features like faster scrolling but that's pretty much it.
BTW, the ISO's for the update disks are on the first post of this thread if you want to just download and burn them to some CDs instead of ordering them.

Hello Nos,
I greatly appreciate for your respond. I download the files you had and burn it. I tried the CD1 CD2 of 4610 but it say no metainfo found and I tried the other CD which is the earlier version and it detect and run but it keep on saying this at the status: deleting flash connectign to device and unlocking no. 1,2,3,4,5,6 and keep on going for hours. at the percentage of progress it reach around 10% and restart all over again. do you have any suggestion for me?
I originally wanted to updated because my bluetooth all of the sudden stop working, my CD keep on skipping every 5 or 10 second and also my radio too. and now I think i have my mess up my MMI, i can't play my CD or play my radio... Please advise Nos or Anyone of this same situation

Hi - if your bluetooth had suddenly stopped working , that is usually a sign of the bluetooth module has failed ( i am not an expert ) this can also have the effect of rebooting the system every 5 mins .
you would need to either get audi to look at if for you or find somebody with the VCDS - ross tech diagnostic tool to retreive the error codes from the MMI for you .
do a search for failed bluetooth on MMI ........... this has not happend to me thank god and I am just about to update my MMI from 0500 ............which must have been the very first issue LOL ...AHHHHHH

This absolutely sounds like the bluetooth module is malfunctioning. Which would also explain why the update process hangs. The bluetooth module is referred to as "handyvorb2" or something similar during the update process, does it say anything about "handyvorb" on the screen when the update gets stuck at 10%? . As for the "no metainfo" issue, the 2 CD set will continue to say this when you try to use them until you successfully run the single CD update (which is a prerequisite for the 2 CD update to 4610)

You can attach it direct to the battery terminals on the battery itself, or to the positive and negative battery posts under the hood - passenger side, toward the windshield. The positive one has a red cap over it.

Put the disc in Bay 1 of your CD changer. Insert the AB disc only. Then try to read it. What you did was get into the menu and read it without the disc being ready to be read (if that makes sense. You basically went too fast.) insert disc, then go in and read.

UPDATE:
I did my update today from 3360 to 4610 and also the Navigation using the 2010 NAV DVD. Did the NAV first and followed by MMI. Did CD1 first but nothing to update. Bluetooth is N so i proceeded with CD2. There it found a bunch of modules to update (5 i think). Everything went smoothly except the module called IDC. I got the message " The following devices are not in download mode:IDC". Option is to "Try again" or "Continue with next device". I tried it again but the same message appeared. So i just continued and finished. All OK except this IDC. Summary for IDC below:
IDC:
Applikation: Update to version 470 was not downloaded. The device is still running version 430 unchanged.
Bootloader: Update to version 330 was not downloaded. The device is still running version 320 unchanged.
After it restarted MMI, I turned off ignition, removed the key, reinserted, started the car, and tried doing the update again using CD1 to be sure but the same, nothing to update. CD2 found the IDC and it has Y on it.Run the update got the same message again, "The following devices are not in download mode....." Tried it a few more times and nada.
Checked the car after that and it looked like everything is still working so thats good news.. I just do not know what is the module IDC and what do i need to do to update it? Anyone experienced it?
I will keep looking..
Thanks...

rapper
07-04-2012, 03:17 PM
Second update took just a couple of minutes. It only found the IDC that needs updating but failed.
I found on VW forum that they are suspecting that IDC is related to Dension 500 Gateway which i do have. So i tried putting it in service mode (disable) thereby being bypassed by MOST loop and tried CD2 again. Same thing. It detected IDC so it makes me think its something else. Or maybe it is detected even when in bypass mode. Not sure..

If the BT is not showing up when you search using the phone, then the module does not appear to be active. For the first 5 minutes after the car is started, the MMI BT is discover-able. sounds like the update shut of the module. You may need to VAGCOM it to turn it back on.

I'm extremely worried and don't know whether to turn the car off, [it's on at the moment], restart the MMI unit, take CD out, or simply wait some more time. I would greatly appreciate any words of advice as I'm doing this for a family member and don't want to mess up the unit. Thanks in advance!!

You need to run the Disk 1 of the 4610.
The Disk 1 purpose is solely to find out if the Bluetooth module software and firmware are matching. If there is a mismatch then the Disk 1 will update the Bluetooth module to the needed SW and FW version. After the BT module is fixed, or the Disk 1 tells you that nothing needs to be done to the BT module, then you'll run Disk 2 to upgrade the other modules in the MMI.
FYI: If you do not run the Disk 1 first, and your BT module has mismatch between SW and FW and you run Disk 2, the BT module will be bricked. There is no way to reverse it after that.

I just finished the update process using the eBay packet from my last post. I have to say that this is more than worth it. I contacted the seller, he asked me specific hardware and software version questions, and put together a package customized for my application, complete with detailed instructions including pictures. It's idiot proof. I highly recommend it simply because the guy knows what he is doing and bricking your MMI isn't cool.
A couple of notes: it took about 90 minutes, I had a motorcycle battery tender on the terminals under the hood, 1.5 amp rating. To minimize battery drain, do not turn on accessory, and definitely don't start the car. The MMI 15 minute time out is deactivated when on the update screen, so key isn't necessary. I periodically checked update process by opening driver door, interior lights off via overhead switch, and I also turned the MMI screen off after each check. I had one question for the seller, I emailed him via his info on packet, he had an answer for me inside of ten minutes. After the update, the MMI is very noticeably faster. There is almost no lag between button press and screen action where before they was irritating lag. I'm waiting on my 2013 nav DVD in the mail to see how the 3d overview map looks after the update.
The 'service' is worth it.

You won't get anything until you are on 4610 and 2013 nav update. At that point it is not truly 3d but only a 3d overview.

First off, big thanks go out to NoSkill and MainlandMIG!! I downloaded the torrent and created three separate cd's ( One ended 1AB, and then the iso's for cd1 and cd2). These were all cd-r, as I have never heard of or seen cd+r. I work in the IT department, and so it was strange that I had never heard of these, so I asked a couple of co-workers and they said the same thing. CD's were only ever made -r, no one has ever heard of +r. I googled them, searched online and never found those. DVD's do come in the -r or +r variety..
But, the 1AB cd worked great- updated bluetooth and alot of other things with the MMI. When I attempted to run the iso from the torrent that ends cd1, I received the "Directory not found! Metadata could not be analyzed" error. Maybe I have done something wrong, because everyone only references 2 cd's. The 1AB disk updated my system to to 3360 I believe (attaching pic to verify). If anyone has any ideas that would be great. I did go ahead and order the official disks from genuineaudiparts.com and they will be here 12/24, but I an anxious to complete. The Navi DVD iso I found worked like a charm and I finally have somewhat up to date maps (2010) as the disk that came with the car was from 2004/05.

Thanks again and Merry Christmas to all!

I'm a newb to this MMI thing. Went to the dealer and they are not able to tell me the version of MMI w/o hooking up the car???
I have a 2010 Nav disc. What benefit will I get from upgrading to the latest MMI level? They told me they can sell me the 2013 Nav update for $250 and also look at the MMI level.
Any chance an updated MMI software level will give me a nav screen that doesn't look like it is from the first one ever made? The picture and maps are so old school looking.

did you get your '13 nav DVD installed yet? I'm looking to do the updates, but am trying to gather as much info as possible prior... let us know!
Thanks
Rick

My friggin nav drive failed during the update. Carrier broke in DVD drive, so I'm waiting until my schedule appointment at the shop on the 27th. I'm pissed.

It's all good. Wynn's warranty will cover it. Thankfully I got the nav coverage. I will say after driving it for a few days on 4610, the system is noticeably faster. Also, my adaptive windshield wipers seem to behave better. I don't know if this is placebo or actually an update from the mmi but they are much more 'stable' now, more consistent. Before they were all over the place: too fast on a dry windshield sometimes and too slow on a wet windshield. Know what I mean?

Anyone want to sell their used 46.10 disc? or a backup?
I bought the AB and H discs not knowing that I also needed the 46.10 disc. It's $30 + shipping. I would have bought it had I known before the last order. I just can't see spending $40 to get me to 46.10 from 41.40 since getting here cost only $20.
I know I'm being cheap, but I don't need those stupid discs for more than a day. Wish they rented them out at Redbox

Great idea Cal! We will call it "Ring Box" we can rent out all applicable CD's (MMI, Navi, etc) but it would need to be more like Netflix where we can store and ship from a centralized hub. [:p]

I'm in dire need of updating my MMI too and many of us don't wanna pay full price for all the update disc's. If we can have some kinda disc sharing network and just pass them onto the next person once updating your own car would be a great idea. We can all pitch in on buying all the disc's to split costs. Hey guys,
I just bought an 07 Audi 86 and I'm looking to upgrade the Bluetooth and MMI modules. I burned all three disk 2 separate CDs just like in the instructions but unfortunately CD 1 and CD 2 do not work correctly. I am very technical and I am positive that I burned both CDs correctly. As a matter of fact, the AB CD was able to be read perfectly, fortunately for me, everything came up as a no for updating. CD 1 and CD 2 cannot be read by the player, it comes up no metadata. unfortunately, I think the images were corrupt.

Hey all you out there that have had issues with the current ISO's provided i have found a work around that is currently downloading on my car now. Here it goes:
I used CD burner XP (Freeware) in this process and burned onto Memorex CD-R at 16X speed and Magic ISO virtual CD/DVD ROM
1. Download file from provided link ant the beginning of this post
2. Burn file 4F0906961AB.iso as an ISO image
3. Mount 4F0998961_cd1 to a virtual CD-ROM drive and do a copy disk for disk i did thid using cd burner xp
4. Do the same with disk 2
5. If your phone is connected, disconnect it.
6. Insert the 4F0906961AB.iso update CD into slot 1 in the CD changer
7. Hold 'setup' and 'return' buttons - this brings you to a 'Current config' menu showing your current versions
8. Press the lower right button around the MMI control knob to select 'SWUpdate'
9. Select 'CDROM' as the 'Download server' "now this is where it got a little funky on me"
- When i selected the the current disk i was in i received an error no metadata folder. ??? Hmmm so follow on
10. after this error it will prompt you to try again before you select it eject the current disk and put in disk 1 wait a moment for it to load then select the try again option.
- this got me in
11. Select standard or XXXX-HI (don't remember the full name)
12. look through the list if you see a Y or S scroll all the way to the bottom and run the update.
- After it runs through and updates repeat the process and verify that all the items in the list on disk 1 say a N after them
- If all items say no or NA then go on to disk 2.
13. Repeat the process with disk 2.
- There will be a point it will ask you to restart this is why you have to reinsert the AB disk. So how did i discover this well as I burned the original downloads to CD as an ISO i noticed that none of the files actually copied onto the CD. HMMM???
So at this point i figured i would try a copy of the ISO image using a virtual cd rom drive ( this is a exactly as it states allows you to run ISO's without burning a CD). Presto I now have files on the disk. It almost seems like for some damn reason that the AB disk is a boot master disk I could not get into the SW update with out loading this one first. I was at 41.4.0 before the update so mine moved quite quickly took about 20 min to update all the files it needed to. Now this was my experience and may not be the same for all models of A6 so to give you insight this was done on a 2007 A6 s-line 4.2 with a MMI software/hardware code of SW: C6-HU 41.4.0 0709 / HW: C6-HU 6303D2.0. It is just my nature sometimes to trouble shoot all scenarios until i am satisfied and this is one of those times. I hope this helps some of you out there with your issues with the corrupt ISO files.

Earlier this week, I set out to update the MMI and NAV systems. I was surprised to find that it only took 20 minutes to run all of the MMI updates using the CDs I bought from GAP for around $30.
I was also pleasantly surprised to find that the DVD I bought from NAVDVDS.com (for only $50 compared to $250 at the dealer) worked great. I bought from them with no research and had some buyers remorse, thinking they might have been a scam. But the DVD came in just a couple of days and worked flawlessly. I now have the 2013 maps.
Just wanted to share that with everyone in case some of you are also wanting a cheaper option to update your Nav.

EDIT: After running a cleaning cd through the changer the Ab disk got to a point where it says Metainfo.txt not Found!
I had the exact same issue - i used downloaded copies and even bought original disks - ran 2 types of cd cleaners (wet&dry) - disassembled and used canned air and alcohol with Qtips - nothing worked.. During a bit of slight aggravation, i had the cd drive in my hand and my son accidentally push the button to run the update - AND IT READ.. So - i messed around with angles and ended up having the cd drive pulled out, and used a screwdriver to keep it tilted in the front corner, and it kept reading. Allowing me to run both updates - 3360 & 4610... So try pulling the drive and leaving it flat and try reading the cd - then pick it up and try - tilt it back and try - etc...

nav disc burns fine on a Mac.
open disk utility. go to File -> open disk image
on the left hand side at the bottom of the list you'll see the disk image.
select it. click burn.
make sure you select the correct drive and set speed to 4x.

It is recommended by Audi, but I have never come across a situation where the battery did not last long enough. I presume that this safety measure is to deal with all possible battery states that an owner might be under, including near empty.
I just check that my battery is in good shape and have never had issue.

I pick up my 2006 A6 tomorrow and looking to get it up to date as much as possible. Thanks in advance
Well use this to burn the iso's http://www.freeisoburner.com/
They are compressed in zip file just extract them using the windows utility.
The thread recommends CD+Rs to be used.
Here is the link to the files you asked for MMI UPDATES 3360 and 4610 Enjoy I am going to attempt to do mines today!

So i went ahead did the MMI update. I was able to update to 3360 without any issues using cd 1 and checked again if there were any more updates needed but everything said N. I have a question what is this list and what does it mean what do i have installed in my car?
http://s9.postimg.org/woqnlnbvj/IMG_0731.jpg
I went ahead and ran CD 1 for the 4610 and ran the updates. Now i went on to CD 2 to update the MMI from 3360 to 4610. Until 3360 i could see the SW button at the bottom right corner to tell me what is the MMI software version i no longer had that option once it updated to 4610. But i put in CD 1 again for 4610 verified nothing needs updating. And then CD 2 again with the same result nothing needs updating. Also holding setup and return button the gateway has???? next to it

I used the hidden menu to enable the trip computer and the battery meter which was missing from the update.
Basically what i am asking is what is that list of things in the first image. I do not have bluetooth in my car i wanted to update the MMI before i go ahead and install that for the car. Why can't i see the SW UPDATE button when i press the car button which shows your MMI version nav version and such and what is gateway and why does it have ???? next to it. I scanned the car and had to faults code which i cleared and ever since then nothing has returned.

Assuming this one was probably related to the telephone settings in channel 12
Everything works fine just the SW UPDATE option in missing when i press car button and the gateway has??? next to it. I am not that tech savy with vcds i just followed directions read a lot on it before i updated. If someone has ran into a similar issue and figured it out i would appreciate any help.

Just download the CD Isos from here: http://www.noskill.us/audi/audi_mmi_2g_update.zip and use whatever tool you want to burn them to some bank CDs
I know this is a post from a while ago but I found this thread in my search to locate an update to my MMI 3G software and navigation. I have a 2011 A5, can you tell me where to locate the update iso files for this?

I upgraded the 2G MMI system in my 2005 Audi A6 Quattro a while back, but my DVD player is suspect so I'm getting a replacement unit via ebay. I'm not sure if the updates were applied to the DVD unit or another piece of electronics in the car. I still have my upgrade CDs and I've also downloaded the software from the links provided. I'm just curious if my replacement DVD player will be plug and play or if I need to go through the upgrade process again.
Update: In case anyone's interested, I received the replacement DVD drive and installed it in my wife's '05 A6. I made sure the replacement drive had the exact same part number as the one installed in the wife's A6. The drive had a 2004 Navigation DVD still in it so I ejected it and replaced it with the 2015/2016 DVD that I purchased from a member on this forum. I had previously updated the software using copies of the factory update CDs that I purchased on ebay. The seller gave me detailed instructions for performing the update and it all went quite smoothly. Unfortunately, some time later I started having problems with the NAV system, which is what prompted me to get the replacement drive.
I turned on the ignition and it indicated that there was a software update and asked me if I wanted to install it. I said yes so I let it do it's thing until it prompted me to restart the system. The MMI started normally so I went into the NAV portion and input an address to try the route guidance. After computing the route I was presented with a map and the option the begin trip guidance so it appears that everything is working fine now. I haven't tried taking a trip using the NAV system yet, but I've asked the wife to try it and see how it works. I was getting an error before when attempting to use the NAV system so it looks like the new drive may have fixed the problem. I was getting errors in the NAV system when running a diagnostic with my VAG-COM so it appears that the drive was the culprit all along.
Replacing the drive was pretty easy, but it really fit tightly into the rack so applying pressure on the back of the drive to push it clear of the rack while simultaneously depressing the two catches on each side of the drive was a bit tricky. There were two nuts on studs at the top rear of the rack attaching it to the side of the trunk. There was another nut securing it to a stud on the trunk floor on the lower right side of the rack. There was a bolt going through a flange at the lower left front of the rack. Once those were all removed it was just a matter of tilting the rack forward at the top and lifting it clear of the flange and the stud at the bottom to remove it from the cavity in the left side of the car. There are three cable connections that need to be detached. One appears to be for the GPS antenna, one is probably for the power and control signals, and the third is for a pair of fiber optic cables. Make sure to eject the DVD from the drive before disconnecting anything. Insert the replacement drive into the rack and push it in until the two tabs on either side click into place. Attach the three cable connectors and reinstall the rack in the opening with the one bolt and three nuts.
