After almost 1 year of ownership of my Aruba Blue, I am ready to have a tint job done here by a reputable shop. I have got the percentage figured out already, 35%. The shop I deal with, use Solar Gard film and they are running a promotion now. The question here is rather to go with NR Charcoal (dye) film or HP true grey film (metallic). Do anyone here have experience with Solar Gard on their vehicle? I have until the 20th of this month to decide.

Had solar guard in Texas on my Honda. Not a bad film, just not great quality. Dyes age over time, more noticeably fading. I assume the quote is around $200-250 USD? I would save up, get a ceramic. Cheap tint on a gorgeous car will just bring the car down, not elevate its appearance.

That said, I didnt have an issue with my solar guard, but only owned the vehicle for 1 year after tinting.

In Texas, $399 for Huper Optik Stark 30 (which is really 35%). This is a top rated ceramic tint that has gotten very good reviews.

I live in Toronto Canada, do we really need ceramics here?

In my opinion, I would not touch my Audi with solar guard. I do tint's myself and have used solar guard on my accord and will never use it again I changed over to sun tek and they look great. The difference between solar guard and many other products out there is the film it is thicker so yes it does absorbed more heat than others but the glue on the film is green so once you put it on your car it will look like a dirty fish tank and won’t have a true black look. IF you want something thicker get a ceramic or I like sun tek carbon.

I have heard that the metallic can cause interference with satellite radio and cell phones. Not sure how "real" that is.

where is the B8's antennas located anyways? on the roof is that just for looks...then we shouldn't have problems with our Audi's...

Autolinks. They did mine. It was a perfect job for reasonable price. Was even careful enough to put a towel over my B&O amp and pull off all the door cards.

Ryan, what film did you end up getting. the NR Charcoal or the HP Charcoal?

I don't remember. Sorry. But it was 32-35%.

Your radio/nav antenna is on the outside, but your stand-alone satNav and mobile needs to go through the windows.

ryan where'd you get it done? looking for a good shop. i see some tints around here that look almost green, no good in my books. somebody told me about a group buy at audioheaven or something (can't remember) but it was way out in richmond hill.

Audioheaven has been recommended. I've heard of them many times. But I went to Autolinks (1066 Birchmount Road, Scarborough, ON M1K 1S4, Canada (416) 751-8883‎) and they did a fantastic job. They do SolarGard with lifetime warranty and remove the panels and installed the film properly.

They have a lot of options available in terms of film, but the SolarGard charcoal I went with was definitely not green or purplish. It's a simple charcoal/smoke, which is perfect.

Audioheaven is where I am going. I hear great words about them, and they are having a sale until the 15th of this month. I pre-booked it for the 20th, Jeff is still going to honor the promotion still. I am just having a hard time choosing which series of film to use. Like you, I don't like the green/purple looking tints.

Good article on why to go with Ceramics over metallic tints. Dyed versions are also the kind that you see all faded after a few years. You have a new Audi - get the good stuff. The pics in the article give a good comparison of what good dyed versions look like compared to Ceramics in general.

I believe Huper goes as far as 20%.
