Up close I thought the Phantom made the car look dirty... Just my 2 cents...

Now, Lou, don't confuse me here. As of yesterday, Ibis, Sprint Blue, and Deep Sea Blue were still in the running, and I (think I've) managed to pare it down. Ibis looks pretty killer, too.

Phantom. The brilliant has an absurd amount of orange peel. The metallic hides it much better.

Actually, I think Imola Yellow is a standard color on the S4. I've always secretly wanted this color, but am afraid I'd live to regret it.

I got Brilliant. I didn't see that much difference between them even side by side so either one would have been fine with me.

One of them is metallic and the other is plain. Always go for the metallic, it's usually a better paint. [up]

Well, after seeing both, I have to say that I didn't see a 500 dollar difference. The brilliant is more of a piano black like on a gorgeous Steinway. The phantom, is more, well, metallic I guess is the only way to put it. It isn't any richer or deeper, it just has the metallic thing that every metallic has. It's not better or worse, it's just metallic and it isn't any more 'black'.
In the glare of the halogens of the dealer, some may say they see a huge difference but in real life, this is going to be a very minor thing. Both are beautiful.
For me, I went for the brilliant and used the savings to get the carbon inlays.

the other issue is if damaged its harder to spray to match the phantom vs the brilliant...

I've seen Brilliant in person, but not Phantom. I actually imagined that the Brilliant would be "blacker", but it sounds like the Phantom is pretty black as well.

black is black, go for the cheaper one and save some money. I don't think you are ever going to say to yourself that you wished you got the metallic

Out of the two, I'd go with Phantom. The metallic fleck in it looks great in the sunlight, it shines up nice and over time, I think it tends to hide the inevitable rock chips and swirl marks a bit better. Brilliant shows every imperfection. Look forward to seeing pics of your new car.

I look forward to posting them, if I can ever get off the dime and decide. Have all of the equipment figured out - Nav, 19" wheels, Sport Diff, B & O.
Deciding between Sprint Blue and Black. Love the blue (with black/silver leather), but if I get black, I can get the red/black interior, which is way cool. No way I'm doing the Superman thing. Kinda comes down to whether the inside or the outside takes precedent.

I'm the OP. Went down to the Audi dealership today to check out colors (on the A4s, they didn't have an S4). Mostly wanted to compare the Phantom to the Brilliant black, which were sitting side by side. Brilliant black is very nice, but the Phantom is amazing (especially in the sun). Great depth, and still looked great with a light layer of dust on it.
Also really liked the Deep Sea blue, and the Brilliant red, but think I have to go with Phantom on red/black leather!
