It won't happen right now, but I hear it's being discussed for post-facelift in the A4's product cycle. Fingers crossed. Lobbying like this might actually help.

I've already started working on the Canadian front, as I NEED [o_o] a B8 S4 Avant when my lease is up in June '11!! Have a look:

"Thank you for contacting Audi Canada regarding the availability of the Audi S4 Avant in the North American market. Your interest in our products is greatly appreciated. I was pleased to read that you are a member of the Audi family with an 2008 Audi A4 Avant. I was unable to reach you at the telephone numbers provided in your e-mail. As such, please accept this written response to your inquiry.

Audi Canada was established by Audi AG to oversee sales and service operations within the Canadian market and its territories. While we do strive to offer as many models as necessary to meet the desires of the public, business environments dictate that not all models available in the European market will be offered in other markets throughout the world. Currently, there are no plans to bring the 2010 Audi S4 Avant to the Canadian marketplace, and we will focus our attention upon the updated Audi S4 sedan that is being introduced.

Again, thank you for writing and your interest in our products. As a prospective returning member of the Audi family your feedback is greatly respected. I hope that you will continue to be a dedicated and a loyal Audi enthusiast. If you have additional comments, questions, or suggestions, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or Audi Customer CARE via our toll free number at +1 800 822 2614.

Sincerely,

Heather Klein

Audi Customer Advocate"

This was my 2nd attempt at using my uncanny powers of persuasion on the Audi Canada folks... victory will be MINE!!

(sigh... the things we tell ourselves...)

Audi USA is very receptive to inputs from current or future owners.

Here is the link to email Audi and let them know that you want an S4 Avant:

http://www.audiusa.com/us/brand/en/about/main/contact_audi.html

It will take a minute or so. Please email so that this request has some clout.

Thanks.

E-mailed and got this back:

"Thank you for contacting Audi of America.

We appreciate your taking the time to share your comments with us. We welcome feedback from our customers regarding their experience and preferences. This information is extremely important to us in planning
for future production. Unfortunately, at this time we have no information on the 2011 models and cannot tell you whether the Avant models you mentioned are planned; news on coming models will probably begin with the major auto shows, when new models are traditionally introduced.

Your note has been forwarded to the appropriate individuals. Very serious consideration is given to such feedback in product development, and where there is a great demand for a particular model or trim there is always a chance it will happen. We look forward to hearing from you again if we can help with any information or be of any further assistance.

Again, thank you for contacting Audi.

Just got my response...I can't say I'm all that hopefully, although she does only reference the 2010 S4 Avant, not anything beyond that:

focusing on the sedan....translation, buy the sedan if you want the s, since they don't want to take sales away from the sedan with avant sales. If a handfull of people buy the s sedan instead of waiting for an avant to show up, they sell another car. In 2 years when the avant does show up, you buy another. Question is, in 2 years what will the current s sedan buyers buy, that did not want avants.

Love to see the passion but enthusiast accounts for very small percentage of sales.

Wagon doesn't sell in NA. It's a niche vehicle within a niche brand. So may wagons failed before it.

There is a reason why BMW is stopping wagons and bringing in all those god awful crossovers that soil the GT name.

I hear you and agree in part but as I clicked to respond, I noticed an ad for the 2010 Cadillac CTS Wagon at the bottom of the screen. I would assume Cadillac listens to their customers who I would imagine aren't typically wagon buyers and they've decided that there is enough support to sell one here. Is subaru wrong with the STI now in a 5 door? There are other wagons out there. I realize they probably aren't a huge volume bodystyle but most people that I talk to, agree that Audi, hands down, makes the best looking wagons out there. If we were begging Audi NA for the 580 hp RS6 Avant I could see the pushback but I just don't get the lack of plans for an S4 Avant here.

Maybe I should just be thankful that a B8 Avant came here for me to buy at all and quit griping:)

It costs money to crash test vehicles for the DOT. A salesman told me recently that the sales of S4 wagons just don't make it profitable for Audi. In the case of Cadillac, I would think that being domestic makes it a bit cheaper to bring a vehicle to market.

Please list why you feel you must have an avant. I drive around with my back seats folded down most of the time and I think it works well. Flame away!

I went to the dealership to buy a used B6 Avant and walked out with a brand new S4 sedan. Their evil plan has worked...

The B8 is a bit bigger, so perhaps I felt I wouldn't miss it as much... I still would have rather had the avant, but oh well, I'm not going to wait around forever. Can always trade in.... and from the sounds of things, Audi is more into their Q5.

Maybe the B8 Rs4 will be Avant only. [;)]

Here are some reasons:

1. Rear window wiper

2. Fit larger items in the rear with the extra headroom above the trunk area. Plenty of things that I can haul around in a Avant that would be impossible in a Sedan with the seats folded down.

3. Roof rails

4. Anyone can drive a sedan, take a real man to drive a wagon.

I am waiting for my BMW 328i xDrive wagon to arrive, since Audi screwed us on a manual transmission wagon in the US. I had a B7 S4 Avant with Manual, loved the car except for the interior and back seat space.

Cheers,

Chuck

There is already a lengthy thread (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=240934) on this in the Avants Only forum [drive]

I personally have never owned a car with a proper trunk (always either wagons, hatches, or coupes w/ hatch trunks) and don't really plan on any sedans in the future. For the same wheelbase and length of a car, there's so much space back there that could be climate-controlled, useful volume that it doesn't make sense to me not to get a wagon. Guess i'm just a wagon guy [cool]

Well said. BMW is offering a value package with "free" leather as well.
