View Full Version : S4 B8 - first in Russia

Hello everybody!
My name is Nickolas, I'm 32, living in Russia (yeah, the post-Communistic country with everlasting winter, bears on city streets, queer hats and people permanently drinking vodka [:d]), 250 miles to the east from Moscow.
In June '09 I got an S4 B8 S-tronic, the first one in Russia excluding Audi's represantative office. Color is SprintBlau (blue). There's 6000 miles on odometer already. Options I ordered "moderately" - ADS, dynamis steering, suspension, sports seats, sport diff. Wanted a shifter, but changed my mind for S-tronic, because it would be harder to sell it in the future with the manual. Avoided MMI, because it costs here about 5 (five!) thousand dollars.
Also family got A8 6.0, Cayenne TurboS, X3 3.0Si.
The car is great, although "first year issues" take place:
2000 miles - fuel pump failure, replaced through warranty;
3000 miles - S-tronic without any visible reason switched into the "protection mode" - only 1,3,5,7 gears were available. "You can continue driving" - said the display [o_o]
The problem, as I was told at the local dealership, was of an electronic origin - a kind of "dismatch of ECU and transmission controlling programs".
Wheels are OZ Ultraleggera 245/35R19 - about 10 lbs (4,5 kilos) lighter than stock 18" ones, which I'd like to use for winter.
Took her to 165 mph (to the limiter, according to speedometer), beaten out tuned BMW M3 E46 and EvoVIII on drag. M3 is faster after 130mph though.
priviet!!
lets see some pics now :]

Show us your chilled russian only vodka drawer option. Come on. I know you have it.
"In Soviet Russia, Vodka drinks you.."
Sorry, I had to. One of my best friend is Russian and I swear he lives up to the stereotype. Insane, hilarious, and chugs vodka like it's water.

Priviet also.[;)]
I'm Just a kid of superstitious (has I written it correctly?) - I believe that taking a pictures of your car can cause road accidents. Stupid, maybe, but if you insist... [:)]

Cliches are powerful, as your sense of humor, I guess. [:)]
"chilled vodka drawer option"? - I'll tell friends, they'd laugh! [:D] Or it was too pricey for me? [confused]
Of course, it's only cliche - I personally don't like vodka and other alcohol, including beer, but my point of view is quite original in Russia. But I love Coca-Cola, McDonald's and desperately fond of old Hollywood films - you know, Double Imdemnity, Streetcar Named Desire, Bridge on the River Kwai etc. [hail]
Many Russian people don't like Northern Americans and believe that they all fat, stupid hamburger-eaters. But reasonable people know that's just cliches...

I know these are just silly cliches. But they're fun, and I'm glad I've met people who don't take offense to it. But Unfortunately, the Northern American cliche of being obese is largely true. When I went to the states, I was shocked. There's always more obese (not overweight) people than average-weight in any field of view. I thought the stereotype couldn't be THAT true, but it was.

In most cases i't just a matter of self-discipline - "eat less, move more". Overweighting problem is usual for every "first-row" modern western country. In Russia, this problem also exists, though non being a huge national one, as drinking vodka.

why are you beating yourself up for being what you are. A nice Russian who like Audi. No better than me, a person in USA who likes Audi . . .

Thank you for a warm welcome.
I'm not seriously beating myself - just being a bit shy entering at the American domestic site for the first time. Maybe a little bit of self-irony.
And I truly love Audis.

Thank you!
Colour is definitely amazing - people always turning their heads and stare at my car... when it's clean - the roads in Russia are extremely dirty, especially during autumn and winter.
As for the pictures - I'm not allowed to "post attachments" yet - this forum says.

Hell, the whole world sees US this way and that's because it's true for the most part, but let's not change the subject. Welcome to the forum and post some pics.

Quite true. It's hard to get upset about a commonly-held stereotype when it is fairly accurate.

Thank you guys, for considering my intro a hilarious (or funny?) one. Means I have a little sense of humour, I guess.
Most countries sees Russia (and America) the ways I mentioned - do you remember Arnold Schwarzenegger as Russian police officer in Red Heat (1987), who after the question about Russian ways of relaxation simply answered "vodka"? Or Russian "spaceman" in Armageddon, who fixes a gadget in his giant vessel striking it whith a big wrench? Orcs in the Fifth Element constantly chewing gum to look like Americans? Cliches, not more.
All right, let's drop the off-topic. Pictures of my car, as I already said, I could not post yet. Let's wait a little, when moderators will allow me to.

Thank you.
During this weekend I'll take a pictures of my car (need to wash it before), then try to upload them to Photobucket.
Car is great. Waiting for the winter to see how good it will be handled on a slippery surface.
