View Full Version : Is no one else bothered by the tailight LED setup of our S4's

I don't like how the US version lights up the whole rear including what's supposed to be a turn signal when braking and turning. The euro model just lights up the thin strip for turning and just the oval LEDs for braking. Much nicer.
Can someone find a way to change it to Euro settings? Please??

is there a video of the difference?

I was thinking the same thing. I don't know the difference between the way US and ROW tail lights light up. With the front directionals it's night and day.

No video, but a British guy told me for turn signals just the thin strip lights up alone and for braking the oval halo light up alone and leaves the thin red led strip at the bottom off. Much cleaner.

Yes...that's the way it works with EU models [:)]

I'm with you on this. I prefer the Euro way better. I'm waiting for you or someone to find a fix. Hopefully, it can be changed using vagcom...which i don't have.

if no vag solution comes up. I'm probably gonna ask my electrician friend to test the wires in the housing and cut away. Separating the brake and turn signal. Who knows if it will cause a warning light, we'll see.

a 'fix'? why not just use Vagcom?

that is unless you guys think the hardware is differnet...I'd submit that it's a 5 second fix in VCDS. Just switch to ROW lights.

Should be yes, but it's finding it, and there are not very detailed files yet on the B8 S4. Also it's proving a bit harder to get into, some things have been locked down harder, so it will take time is all I would think.

shows the nice config at 1:30

It looks like the euro model has incandescent bulbs for the turn signals though and not Red LEDs like ours. I would have thought they had yellow LED's.

VAG isn't as smart as you think they are. It's going to be different assemblies.

They did it to the B6 Passats. US/Canada models have different assemblies (and wired differently inside) than ROW -- which includes no amber leds in the US/Can ones

For some reason, I want to say there is also a brake light system controller that is locked and needs a workshop code to get in.

Have we looked through the A5/S5 group yet to see if they have been able to change things? I know it's going to be different since they'll have bulbs rather than LEDs up to this point, but it's still worth a look.

I don't spend a whole lot of time behind my car... I'm usually in it, operating the wheel and pedals and stuff

Yep, this is what I seem to remember seeing somewhere as well.

huh? do you have a VCDS cable? If you do, just go into the proper module, and look at the options.

Don't need 'detailed files'...unless there's something extra special about the headlights/brake lights.

As i said in my first post, a hardware difference would make it tough, but otherwise it should be pretty straightforward.

I don't have my S4 yet, but when I do, I plan to go into it with VCDS to map out things which are not currently shared, since this car is newer and different than what has been very detailed so far by many people. From my reading about those who do have their S4 and are working on them it is my understand that many things now require an authorization code, as this ECU is more locked down than previous models. If it is as straightforward as you say, I'd think someone would have/be done it by now, but I can't find mention of it.

Jose has asked this across several Audi boards and many people with an S4 and VCDS have read it, but no one has said they know how, or could find it yet.

I'm glad I created a movement. Hopefully someone will come up with a solution. I'm going to try to figure out something from the hardware set up. I would be happy with just turning off the turn signal LEDs with braking.
