Hi, erverybody.
I bought a a4 b7 a while ago, its got a dvd/cd unit, every works and sound well.
only the radio cant get any channels in.
so i asked the previous owner why, he said that the build in antenna( rear windows) is to weak for this stereosystem.
so what would be the easiest way to fix this problem?????
thanks for an answer.

Is it an aftermarket HU?
Our B7s have a factory antenna amp located near the rear window. It receives 12v from the center pin of the Symphony II antenna connector. If you run an aftermarket HU, you need to get an adapter to provide 12v to the antenna amp.
It sounds like the antenna amp is not getting power or it has failed.

Probably a bad booster...like sooo many other cars in the site.
Seems like everyone has experienced these somewhere along the line.
What a horrible design! [down]

It sure sounds like it. Give us an update once you take a look at the unit.

Let's make sure we're on the same page....
Never really saw an answer from you if this is an aftermarket HU? If it is an aftermarket HU... then
The device that you just purchased and connected to the FAKRA connector on the back of the HU is not (should not) be a booster. It should only provide 12v to the center pin of the antenna cable. This 12v will power the factory antenna amp/booster near the rear window of the A4. If you purchased some aftermarket antenna booster, I doubt it will help reception at all.
If it is a factory Symphony HU then the problem could be a bad amp/booster unit in the rear of your car.

no problem... these things can be VERY frustrating!
I have the Metra VW53 (or newer VW54) antenna adapter. It works well and my radio reception is 95% as good as it was with the factory HU. Purchased mine new off eBay for around $14US shipped.
I believe the factory antenna booster is located at the top center of the rear window under the headliner, but 1st try this Metra adapter and then check for DIY threads before you start trying to mess with the booster.
You may want to find a local friend to help that's good with car audio stuff. (I'd help, but I'm about 5000 miles away!)
Have fun at your rally!

Great news!! Glad to hear it worked for you.
You're right... forums like AZ are priceless! (Well... you could put a price on it maybe, but it would be a lot of $$$$.)

is that same metra 40-vw54 the one for the b6?
i have an aftermarket head unit that circuit city installed and put an antenna adapter in. there are no wires, it's just the end that plugs into the factory antenna wire and the other end goes into my sony radio. does the b6 have to have that center plug energized? i pulled out the stock booster in the back window and it had a very small crack in it and replaced it with a new one but it still doesnt work. does this metra 40-vw54 have a wire on it that you hook to a power source? it seems to make sense if thats the issue i'm having

I believe the B6 also powers the rear antenna booster with the center pin like my B7. It sounds like circuit city installed the wrong adapter. Yes, the VW54 & VW53 have a blue wire on them for a switched 12v from the HU.
by the way, that's quite a deer story...

When I asked the same question, I was told the vw54 is the newer version. So I order the vw54, but received the vw53... it works great.
Both the vw53 and vw54 do the exact same thing.
