Since there is not an option for the launch controol in the B8 S4 i am interested how can you perform the fastest launch from the stop.
I read somewhere that if you hold esp button and put the ESP to off-than put your left foot on the brakes and right foot floor to the gas pedal and then release the brake - it is like the launch controll.

Somebody brave enough to try this? Will S-tronic handle this procedure?

Is there some tuner offering a S-Tronic remap with added launch controll ?[hail]

The launch control problem is solved by buying/leasing 6MT. FYI

I gotta say, I'm a huge fan of rowing through gears; I just love the feeling. However, many people get S4's as daily drivers AND weekend cars. That S-Tronic is no joke. It shifts ridiculously fast, and would outrun a 6MT no questions asked if it was anything but from a standstill. Give it launch control and it will outrun the 6MT 24/7. I'm sure something will be cooked up in the future to give the car a "launch."

PS: I love both transmissions, just trying to defend the technological wonder we call S-tronic. [cool]

I drove manual cars for 20 years so this launch - 6MT is realy from someone never tried S-Tronic ( DSG )...

After 100km/h (62mph) the S-tronic should start to edge away from the manual.

In every single other audi DSG/S-Tronic application the DSG cars are always faster from the line. I suspect the quoted sprint time of the S-Tronic S4 is slower due to gearing and another cog swap being required as it approaches 100km/h.

I heard that from an S4 driver in the UK.

Not sure if it's the same on the B8 (probably not since it's different transmissions) but in the B7 power is cut when the RPM goes about about 2200 with the brake held. Since the DSG doesn't have a built in launch control for this car application, Audi may have done it the same way...

Your statement does not make much sense, since Audi quotes both gearboxes at 4.9 0-60. Also, these 0-60 times have been achieved by professional drivers whose manual shifting techniques drastically differ from an average "enthusiast" driver. No doubt the standard 6-speed gives you more control, but performance-wise, the DSG is better, especially in the hands of an average joe.

Times in Europe and other countries (South Africa, Australia etc) where km/h is used, are more often than not quoted as 0-62mph (= 0-100km/h).

S4 manual quoted 0-100 is 5.1
S4 S-Tronic quoted 0-100 is 5.3

S4 S-Tronic requires an additional gear change to reach that speed.

So, with that reasoning, in your country where they're quoting 0-60 only with the same time for each - my point is quite simple.

For the most part, in all other applications, audi usually quote S-Tronic/DSG times FASTER than manual for 0-100.

stock assuming? i wonder if when chippd (when avalible of not already) will let it go to a higher rpm before allowing you to shift, like a shark injector

when i got my s4 the dealer told me that there is actually a launch control for the car... all you have to do is put your left foot down on the brakes and right foot on the gas half way through the throttle and rev it to 3500 rpm and let go of the brakes.. im not brave enough to do it yet tho lol

That sounds like 2/3rds of the launch control procedure in the other DSG/S-Tronic cars. In my R32, it was turn off ESP, apply brakes, floor the gas; the car will rev to 3500rpm and stay there. When you let off the brakes, you get a launch.

I haven't tried it in my S4, so I have no idea if it works or not. What I can say is the 2010 A3 that I had as a loaner did NOT have launch control. I would do the same procedure and all the car would do is bog down.

If you are going to do this, make sure you stop if it doesn't easily rev to 3500rpm. If it doesn't, all you are doing is asking the car to slip the clutch. It shouldn't be a big problem though as the car should cut the throttle if both the gas and brake are pressed at the same time.
