Little concerned as I have just ordered one to be delivered on December.

its not a DRASTIC OMG WERE ALL GONNA DIE! kinda vibration...
but enough of a vibration that it gets annoying holding the wheel for extended periods of time. While driving it feels like you've got one front wheel badly out of balance, even if they are properly balanced.
Its annoying for people with long commutes, but you may be lucky and get one of the few that already has the new control arms seeing as your such a late 09 build (they switched to the new control arms at some point in building the 2010s)

It still amazes me that with so much dough being spent on testing a car before bringing it to market, annoyances such as this one somehow slips through. I guess "don't buy the first year's model" motto still holds true.
I test drove a 2010 a5 2.0T with 30 miles on it and felt it. Small chance that it was flat-spotted tires or some other thing, but it really felt like the described vibration (60-65mph, light vibration). I hope it's not on the b8 s4, hopefully the suspension is different enough, but I have my doubts. The a4, a5 and the s5 seem to have it.

2010 S4 and A4 should be using the same control arms... which should be the upgraded control arms now since they changed production lines to the new ones.

Well I ordered a 2010 S4 that is for september allotment and will be delivered in Dec. That is why I asked if any of the current 2010 S4 owners have the same vibration as the A4/ S4/S5 guys.

Just picked mine up this week. No issues. It drives great.

This is the way it is with any mass-produced product. My work is project-based and after many years I noticed that every project ends with the end product at being 99% or so perfect. You are constrained by budget and schedule. Just always keep this in mind and either pay the price for being an early-adopter or wait a little and enjoy a more refinded product.

I am experiencing these vibrations also (feeling it most, obviously, through the steering wheel) at around 60 mph..... nothing crazy, but it does appear to be there. Not cool.
Going to monitor it and check in with dealership if it persists.

could it be the tires? they may not be properly balanced.

It could be, but given other drivers noting same problem, I'm inclined to think it's something else. It'd be too coincidental if we all had unbalanced tires from the factory... though I guess crazier things have happened.

I'm debating whether or not I have this issue now... How noticeable is the vibration through the wheel? Should it be pretty much dead still? I get really minor vibrations which I was always chalking up to it passing a bit of road feel through.

I feel the same, i do feel the same small vibrations, but its not big enough to tell if its actually something wrong with the car, or the setting is like this

I seem to have this problem as well. Steering wheel shakes after the car sits overnight. Then it goes away after driving a few kilometers.

Sounds like it's almost certainly your tires. Check pressure and check for flatspotting.

I feel it between 60 to 80 and i have been worried that when i bring the car in for sevice they are not going to be able to reproduce the probelm after beating my car up all day.. I bought my car the last day of december in 09 so im not sure when the build was.. How can i figure that out??
I would have to say the problem really pisses me off and i try and tell myself its just me but i know deep down in side its the car!! I just hate the run around the dealler always gives you..

What brand tires do you guys have on your cars? We had this problem for three months straight and have not seen it again since.
The Pirelli and Dunlop tires that came with certain cars from the factory had high road force values and would cause a vibration at highway speeds. Don't be shocked when I say road force because most of you are familiar with tire balancing but road force measures the tires for hard spots that don't flex well under driving.
Mine was a november delivery. no vibs in mine.

I have the Dunlops. Based on what I'm feeling, I think it is a road force problem because it happens when the tires are stone cold. It was more pronounced in the winter when it was colder. After I drive for a bit it goes away for the rest of the day.
tires, especially dunlops get flat spotted when sitting overnight. Worse in cold weather. Once you get them up to temperature and speed, they get back to circular. Happens on all cars with those tires. Its the guys where it is full time vibs that have the real issues.

I had the BFGoodrich tires on in the wintertime A/S because I don't drive the car out in the snow that is what my B5 is for. Anyways I had vibrations from 65-80mph constantly. Then I changed over to my summer tires PS3 and the vibration has gone. I asked my tire guy what could it have been since I always balanced my tires and he indicated to me that some tires just don't have good harmonics with certain cars.

Just got the road force balancing done today. Apparently 3 wheels were out of balance. Felt good on the drive home but we'll see what happens in the coming mornings when it's cold.
The dealership also found that the control arms and even some sway bar mount are of the original design and were updated. Audi is going to update me to the newer parts. Not sure what all is different bu the geometry is a little different and ball joints are bigger is what the rep told me. I'll know more when the change out the parts.
