I bought the MMI to USB cable hoping it would support my mp3 players.

The cable is recognized by the car, but anything I plug into the adapter, including an iPod, gives a 'this device is not supported' message.

I put the iPod cable back on and can use the iPod...

...but, I was hoping to use my Creative and Sony MP3 players (which are Rhapsody enabled) thru my Q5's AMI.

Does anyone have any suggestions or does the problem lie in the car's AMI device support list? How can this be updated to support other players?

It should recognize most USB sticks and USB HD's which if you have music stored on them it will play.

Many MP3 players with USB ports use proprietary configurations and won't work with the USB port. IPODs will only work with the IPOD cable. I have a 150GB HD attahed to my MMI via USB a have tons of music loaded up that way.

Hi there, your HD attached to MMI... what car do you have? I have a 2010 q5.
can you use steering wheel controls to navigate?

is there a way to show 'remaining time' or is elapsed time all that the mmi can show (for any media)?

you think a hard drive based system would be update-able. id love to see improvements and apps added to the MMI. my 2004 acura mdx, had a calendar, a notepad, a calculator. sounds dopey, but, id punch in peoples phone numbers as i talked to them on the phone and used the calculator as a scratch pad too!

audi nav can rarely find stuff. i used to be able to use the mdx's touchscreen to type in the name of a biz and it just automatically searched the vicinity i was in. With Audi, What if I dont know the exact town the biz is in? the audi mmi wants too much specific info to even begin to look, and its slow, in my opinion. you could also find exact entries based on phone number on the mdx. I find i still have to use Superpages on my verizon phone to helpout.

Though the 'time you are due to arrive' at the destination is helpful, the mdx would show how many minutes it was going to take. even when you are familiar with how to get to a destination, i still punched it up on mdx's nav to see how long it was going to take. it would help me stay on time with commuting to work, etc.
