FYI, I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to car audio.

Basically, I've got the infamous speaker rattle (it's the actual speaker) on the factory bass speakers behind the rear seats (right under the rear window).

Is there a possibility of throwing in a couple of 6 inch subs to replace them? I'm looking for the best of the best (JL 6w3v3 any good??) and any input on fitment, amps, etc... I'd like to try to do the install myself if possible, as my parents are willing to buy the subs/amp for my birthday that's comin up.

Any help is really appreciated...and I think I might do a write up on this once I get everything together.

Btw if this isn't worth it and I should just go with a bigger sub in the trunk or something, let me know that too.

not worth it.

if u want boxes, get 2 10's in the trunk. if u want a self contained bazooka, get a 10 or 12. u will love it.

btw, 2 10's is FUCKING LOUD... 1 should be perfectly fine if u want to actually hear the music's detail when u crank it up.

my last system literally made ur body hurt when I turned the volume half way up.... lol 2 10's... [drive]

Gotcha.. I think I might try to go with a 10w7 then. My buddy had a 12w7 and that thing was INSANE. Hoping the 10 would be at least a bit more subtle when I'm not blasting it.

Anybody have any clean/safe installs of a sub box/enclosure in the trunk on a B5?? I often put a bunch of shit in my trunk so it needs to be safe if stuff happens to slide around back there.

size of the sub doesnt matter that much, clarity has more to do with the enclosure and porting.

the larger the sub the lower the achievable frequency range. but you can push an 18" sub and not blast out windows if you dont want to, and you can shatter glass with a couple of properly enclosed/ported 8 inch speakers.

get some metal mesh grills with the rubber coating on them, and screw them in over the subs so nothing touches them. thats what i did when i had mine. nothing ever hurt them, even after packing my car to the brim with suitcases.
