Yep... that just happened. 3 months of waiting and more waiting is planned. Dealer is still getting the details, but the only information he has now is that the car is being held at the port for "quality control issues." My guess is the car was damaged in transport. Could be minor, could be major, no idea. Also, could just be something mechanical -- faulty window switch, faulty blinker, who knows.

Just a little frustrating to say the least.... anyone ever gone through this before?

Usually, when this happens, the car had sank into the sea and is recovered with the help of a lift. Just give it sometime to dry the electronics and it'll be fine [up]

If the car was damaged in transport, it would have been considered a total loss and would have been salvaged

Ha.. thanks for the words of encouragement guys. In all seriousness, I hear US has laws for this kind of stuff... Audi can perform up to a certain amount of $$ in repairs and sell the car as 'new' without having to inform purchaser / lessee.

Anyone know anything bout this?

Still very, very premature to jump to conclusions about what happened (if anything at all), could very well just be something minor / insignificant (broken blinker, headlight, lock mechanism, TPMS, etc.)

Unless the laws have changed in recent years, repairs at the port of entry are not uncommon and don't result in a car being salvaged. My mom had a Mercedes years ago that had the front quarter panel resprayed at the port of Baltimore. Our own body shop said that their paint facility was among the best and that the work would be perfect - and it was.

Don't worry until there's a reason to worry. It could be as simple as a broken switch or relay... the same kind of thing that could break 10 miles down the road after you pick it up.

Yea, if there is any repainting to be done, which to even think about at this point is getting wayyyyy ahead of myself, I'm sure it's impeccable work. Car companies can't be repainting panels on brand new cars unless the work is factory quality, period.

that means damaged cosmetically in transport.

they don't test the cars on the ship...they just park them 11 inches away from other cars, strap them down, and pray for no hurricanes

unfortunately your car was on the boat when that hurricane hit the east coast...thus there's a chance of load shift and cosmetic damage.

I'm not so sure about cosmetic damage - could be a lot of things, according to my dealer. In any event, got this e-mail from them this morning:

"I received an email from the port this morning. They have completed the work and are trying to release the car to the carrier today. I will keep you up to speed as soon as additional information becomes available."

Slowly but surely...... making progress.

finished repairs? you should try and find out what exactly they did to it.

And if they are trying to sell you a car they've already had to fix once... you should push for a big discount. Atleast that's what I would do...

good luck dude.

At the very least, I am going to get in writing what what fixed at the port. Again, if it's a tail light, or parking brake, or anything non-cosmetic, I'm not going to give it much thought. Beyond that, I'm going to want a very good explanation that it was fixed impeccably. As for a discount, I am already getting 3%+ off a car that I custom built so I think I'm doing pretty damn good...

Will take pictures after kicking my sales guy in the balls for making me wait. [mad]

Stay tuned.

Make sure they hook the speedometer electronics back in before pickup. The port has a nice bootleg quarter mile sectioned off to "test" the odd merchandise. I offered the forman 50 dollars to get a turn.

Finally - long time coming. Took a crapper pic at the dealership, more to come in an official thread. Can't say enough about the car.... scary fast, incredibly solid (shifting, clutch handling) and smooth yet not devoid of character and gruntyness. Really, just beautiful. Still trying to learn my way through everything... lots and lots of cool / smart new features.

Anyway, here it is. Seems like there's been a ton of Phantom B8 S4s around here lately, so nothing new:

Front left 1/4 panel was replaced. Unsure why but whatever was done is 110% perfect. Looked at it carefully for a solid 5 minutes... it's fine. Plain and simple.
