Jalopnik article (http://jalopnik.com/5347698/2010-audi-rs5-may-kill-next+gen-rs4)

"Speaking anonymously at a recent press event, an Audi official let us known the future of the B8 generation RS4 is facing a steep opposition. The Audi A5 and S5 models have been such strong sellers the decision was made to use that car as the sub-supercar entry and allow the A4 to top out with the newly available supercharged V6 S4."

Down, and out! Too bad, the B7 RS4 is killer!

That bites a bit. What if I want a 4 door saloon beast!

ECU tune on the B8 S4, downpipes and an Exhaust would probably give you the beast you are looking for ;)

Agreed. Software and a good body kit, some suspension tweaks. VOILA!

And this time around the S4 won't depreciate like a bomb exploding - as was the case when the RS4 was launched.

Yeah !

When Revo and APR release their OBD II upgrades for the new S4 ... it will munch the previous RS4 for breakfast and probably provide 90% of what any future RS5 brings to the dinner table to boot. Call it a hunch.

Tell me about it, there are used 07 and 08s on eBay with less than 15k miles for $50k and under.
There is even one with 54 miles going for $50k

Economy is also playing a HUGE factor in car prices these days. A big V8 sport saloon is not something the average consumer is searching for really....with lower demand comes the dropping of prices to get those cars off dealers lots.

And I too think once the proper tunes are released for the 3.0 SC'ed engine it will be able to hang with a ton of other fast cars out there. From what I can see at MTM's website their tune of the 3.0T engine gives it over 400hp (Im sure NOT at the wheels but still). Hell even the tuned A6 3.0T gets over 350hp which is awesome IMO. A nicely tuned A6 S-Line 3.0T with a slight drop would look saweeeeeeeet. Make it an avant and Ive got my new 'dad-mobile' for when I have kids in a couple of years!

My dealer was predicting tought times for the S4. Maybe the UK market is different ... well in fact we know it is. Any cars with more than 6 cyclinders are looked at as expensive and hungry on fuel. When fuel costs £1.10 a litre (you work out how much that is for a US gallon!!) then it may not hold up well despite no RS4.

It's another reason I only went for the 2.0T this time. [:/]

I recently read a confirmed report that the RS5 will be an even more tuned version of the RS4 engine with 450hp. I can't believe they're not gonna offer the TT V10.

What's an OBD II if you don't mind telling me? How much would you expect that to cost?

OBDII is the diagnostic port on most cars these days, and a great majority of tuners use this port to load their custom software maps onto the ECU in this manner.

You can also purchase a VagCom cable and make use of VCDS/RossTech software to check your car's performance, log data, and make minor changes to vehicle settings. All through the OBDII port.

I suspect APR and Revo maps for the new S4 to be in the region of US$1000 when available, considering the extra performance of >300kw, depending on quality of fuel.
