Take a look at the hard facts and you will see the new 2010 S4 is poised to be the leader in this
segment. The question has to be asked, if the Audi S4 was always the BMW M3’s competition,
what will we see from Audi to compete with the M3?

Scott, thanks for posting

Ironic that they are now comparing the S4 to the 335 and not the M3... guess there is hope for an RS4 then?

i was pretty bummed when they stepped down to a V6 Turbo... when they came from a NA V8.... to me, the B7 and B6 are more appealing to me when it comes to the engne

I like the supercharged V6 more than the V8. The excellent HP/TQ plus gas mileage near 30mpg sells it to me. These days I won't consider any car that has gas mileage below 20mpg.

the b5 biturbo s4 were a great engine. V8 was horrible idea

It's kind of like deciding between butts or boobs (no offence to the ladies, I'm sure they have their own similar debate); everyone has their preference, and no one is going to change your mind.

They both have their merits. I used to drive a V8 in the form of a 540i, and now have a high strung six in the form of a e46 M3. VERY different applications of power.

Which one do I like better? Not sure. I think the solution is simply to have one of each for different driving situations. [evilsmile]

That said, the new Thupercharged six sounds like it's going to be an excellent engine.

My dealer here in Atlanta just got in an S4 yesterday when i happen to be there and 1 thing i noticed was the driver side fog light, the vent is open and leads in to something (not sure what) and the passenger side fog vent is completely closed similar to both sides of thr A4.

Any idea what that air is being used for?

I have the new 3.0T A6 and I love it. Yes, I don't get that beautiful V8 rumble...I test drove an B7 S4 originally and I must say, that sound is intoxicating. But, I do get better mileage, tons of torque, and a unique sound over 4k rpm that sounds like a "whirrrrrrrssshhhhhhhhhpphhh." Once exhausts and such start coming out for the 3.0T I have a feeling people will be commenting on what a great sound it makes. I personally thought my car was rather quiet until my friends road in the backseat and I put it in sport.

Don't forget the different trunk with a "lip" spoiler!

It could be the sensor for Adaptive cruise control. It monitors the distance to the vehicle in front via radar sensors and automatically reduces speed, as well as resumes speed, to maintain the driver-selected safe distance.

Aah, yes... the vehicular ménage Ã* trois. I approve. [up]

I really like the "supercharged" badge, compared to the V6T badge on the supercharged A6.

Im going to test drive one this weekend, and compare it to my RS4. Should be interesting. I like the overall look except it still looks like a A4, and those huge side mirrors don't help.

RS6 > M5

(upcoming) RS7 > M6

The S4 USED TO BE competition for the M3 back before the E46 M3.
The RS4 is the M3's competition.

I'm glad Audi lowered the price on the S4 and positioned it to be what it has become, the higher powered 3 series competition.
The new and former S4 was the 330/335i competition, but Audi had to move the price point too high to make V6 A4 owners not question what the heck was going on. The former S4 was a great car, but not worth the asking price, and it was in line with the 335i's performance. The M3 was RS4 territory, and the new M3 really shows that.

Mirrors on 2010 S4 are noticeably smaller and proportional than MY09.

I really like the "supercharged" badge, compared to the V6T badge on the supercharged A6.

I think both are lame. Can't Audi come up with something better? Why badge it at all?

Very true! they are more squared off versus the more rounded MY09 side mirrors.

Because there is obviously not much else to visually distinguish it from an A4.

This is definitely subjective.

I would agree with the first two. When it comes to S5 vs. 335i, I would go 335i. Ease of tuning is one reason why I buy a car. With the 4.2 V8, the S5 is not easy to tune for significant gains at all. 335i + $600 = 340-360 whp. Not too shabby. It's too early on the S4 (and S5 once they bring the V6"T") but, I'm sure the tuners will get similar numbers for it eventually.
