I am considering upgrading the factory speakers in our B7 A4 Avant, but I would like to maintain the factory head unit and avoid any noticable modifications to the car.
Basically, what I am looking for is a more *full* sounding system. Currently, it sounds very shallow and weak to me. For comparison, the factory Bose system in our 2001.5 S4 Sedan was leagues ahead of the factory Bose system in this B7 A4 Avant. I realize, unlike the B7 A4 Avant, the B5 S4 Sedan had a couple subs in the rear deck, which I am sure was largely the reason for sounding better/more full in its frequency response. I would still like to get the A4 closer to that without spending more than a grand. I saw on Crutchfield's website a "Staff Pick" set of component speakers called Focal K2's for $600.

I hate to spend that kind of money without knowing whether or not it will be a significant upgrade to what I already have.
Any input?
