Sound coming in and out? Bad amp?

Hey guys, I have a question concerning my B6 A4. I figured I could ask it in here since it has to do with my stereo and or the amp. I have the stock Bose system and it's a 2004, if it matters. I've noticed for a couple weeks now that the sound from my stereo seems to come and go... it doesn't really shut off, the sound just gets really quiet, and then goes back to the normal volume a couple seconds later. Then, it does it again shortly after. The best thing that I could think of is that there is a connection loose, or that the amp is going bad.

Has anyone had this happen to them, or could you guys tell me what you think might be wrong? Thanks in advance!

Happens to me too on occasion; figured it was the DICE unit but maybe not since you mention it on a stock system!

Yeah I have the Bose symphony stock unit. My best guess is it's the amp, but I figured it shouldn't be going bad this soon.

I have a similar issue with my stock bose stereo. the front passenger side tweeter cuts in and out at times and/or will crackle, like it has a loose connection or something. Is there just one central amp with the stock stereo or is there an amp for each speaker?
Sorry if I'm hijacking your thread, just sounds like a similar issue and I don't know much about the configuration of this car's stereo system.

If your speaker is crackling, then it almost sounds like it's going bad, or is blown. An amp wouldn't cause a speaker to crackle like that...

Sounds like a clipping amp to me, or bad voltage from the headunit to the bose amp. Definitely test the amp and/or headunit; you're on the right track here.

If it were a loose or poor speaker wire connection, you'd have NO sound, not low sound.

Yeah, I figured it wouldn't be the speakers... I'll see if I can find a way to test the amp. :/ Thanks!

Where is the amp located?

Amp should be located in the trunk area. I have an avant so for me, it's on the rear right side of the trunk area.

My car had the same issues, but only on hot days. Not sure why. I went to the dealer and they told me it was b/c of my aftermarket exhaust (what a bunch of crap).

I think it has to do with the amp overheating but I have yet to figure out the solution. If I cool the cabin temp down w/ A/C and air flow, the noise fluxuations go away.

Problem is: now my A/C goes in and out. :/

I am getting the same issue with the stereo and also the a/c. i checked my a/c freon and its fine. Any solution?

Same problem for me on my 05 Avant, dealer said its nothing wrong...

Cant listen to loud music for a long period of time, im pretty sure its the amp as well

its the head unit i guarantee it, whenever i was driving the sound would dicipate and then come back. I changed out the head unit and poof never happened again.

My car does this as well, thought it was the head-unit so replaced it. Same thing still happening.

I have a 02 S6 Avant with RNS-E. Driver side door speaker cuts out completly at random. Whats wierd is if I CRANK the sound up if comes back online. I'll look into the amp area for loose connections first. I have the RS6 exhaust also, might be the culprit as well.(someone posted aftermarket exhaust causing extra heat back there affecting the amp somehow??)

Sorry to revive an old thread, but if anybody had success fixing the speakers cutting in and out, please advise.
