This thread is for anybody who wants to discuss the brand new 2010 Audi S4 that is expected to arrive in the U.S. in late August 2009. I'm currently secured for one of the first B8 S4 in Pennsylvania. If anybody has ordered, or is planning to order and wants to talk about anything, please post your questions/comments here. Also, if you have any pictures of the new S4 or past S4's that you would like to display, please do so.

I'm not on the list, but I will ride in yours most definitely hah. I've got mixed feelings about the v6 in the '10 s4. We're talking about potentially less power (a loss of 7 HP), but we're also talking about more boost, and 8~ more miles to the gallon (24 mpg highway!!!).
you should post pictures of the a4 you have now, it's dirty as shit

I think it will be as fast (if not faster) than a B7 and will get better mileage. Isn't that what most people want?
I'm not going to buy one but I saw a B8 S4 in person at Danbury Audi and it looked much better than any pics I've seen.

The new S4 does 0-60 in 5.1 seconds, which is .5 seconds faster than the b7 S4. European Car posted that they reached 60 in 5.0. I think the new engine is okay, because you can easily add a lot more mods due to the supercharger kit without dumping a lot of money into getting a whole kit installed. Also, the new S4 gets 20% better mpg, reaching up to 26 mpg highway.

True. I'm a big fan of v6 cars, because the engine is generally lighter. Also it will be much easier to mod than the previous generation, but it will take a while until all the new mods are out.

those are very conservative numbers (performance)
I imagine when tested by Road and Track/C&D/MT we'll see that the performance is smack dab in the middle of the RS4 and the B7 S4.
i.e. 0-60 4.8 and 1/4 in 13.3/105ish

I'm looking fwd to seeing the capabilities of the Supercharged V6. APR has one arriving in August and development has begun with the HP range looking at 400-450 [cool]
Count me in on wanting one... gotta wait on pricing to make up my mind though.
Hopefully pricing will be out in the next cpl of weeks cause I'd like to order by Mid-July in order to have it sometime in Oct/Nov.

Updated 0-60 right now from Audi are 4.9 seconds.
nice.
Audi is very conservative with those numbers usually. I think they said the R8 4.2 would turn the trick in 4.8, but it has routinely been tested between 3.9-4.3
Same with the R8 5.2...they said 3.9 seconds, but it's sister car the LP560-4 was clocked at 3.2 seconds by Road and Track.
All smart marketing...underpromise, overdeliver. Just like the B8 A4...from the dyno work that we've seen so far, it's delivering far more than 211hp/258tq

are you aware that the B6 and B7 S4 Avant sold about 600-800 copies per year?
that's why there's no B8...not because there's not enough petitions being done...it's because there hasn't been enough buying over the past decade.
while we can vote on internet polls all we want, when not enough people are buying the S4 Avant, and Audi is only selling 800/year (and has to crash one into a wall for insurance industry testing) you're not going to see a B8 S4 (or a B9, B10, B11...)

If you want the first B8 S4 in PA, you better hustle brother! Mine hits the production line in Ingolstadt in 10 days. Though I'm buying at NJ dealer, it will have it's home in Center City, Phila. Looking like 2nd week in August right now, subject to change, of course. Very similar to yours - should be sweet.

Having had a modified B6 S4, I was tempted by the B8 car.
However when I priced it, it got quite silly. It's not so much the base car costs but if I went for the S4 then I'd want the carbon inlays, the supersport (or whatever they're called) seats, etc etc. I worked out it would cost be £8k more than the A4 Avant I plumped for. In addition the way road tax is charged in the UK the Avant crosses the boundary and makes it £400 a year....with it increase dramtically year on year. Add in the extra fuel, insurance and surpisingly lower residual than the 2.0T and it was going to cost be around £15k more for three years.
It's a very nice car but my S-line looks 90% alike (with the RS4 wheels as in the pics above) and I just don't get the chance to use the engine and really that's most of what you're really buying into.
So just a 2.0T Avant 6MT S-line for me this time and I'll have to get my fun on two wheels instead ;)

Are you guys sure that this car will arrive in August? I was expecting an October delivery. I guess it's time to give my dealer a call.
Ordered mine this Monday. Ice Silver, mustang brown/black super sport seats, carbon inlay, S-tronics, ADS, Sports Diff, Hill Hold, AMI. Must say that I am still struggling between the S4 and the S5 sportback (if there is one). I heard that the S5 will be awhile and it's a 4 seater. So I went ahead and ordered the S4 instead.

I actually ordered it and I'm actually receiving one of the first in PA. My dealer told me I have the first S4 coming in from the factory. I ordered it in May. My dealer told me mid August also, I just expect late August because Audi was actually sending them over in mid August, but I think theres a chance they will send them a bit early. The car will be amazing.

Sure, I love the B5 S4. I actually used to want to get one and completely modify it, but I decided to put all the money I could into the new S4. Do you have any mods on the B5 or do you plan to do anything?

The car should be arriving in August. The car slots weren't great due to the demand for the vehicle. The chances are that you ordered the car after the first shipment had been reserved. I actually am getting the first S4 coming to my dealership and it was one of the last S4 that could be reserved for PA for August arrival. My dealer had to call a few dealerships to find a spot, and eventually we did. I had to put $1,000 down non-refundable because I took the slot that I guarantee anyone would die to have who could afford the car. Find out if anybody taking delivery has changed their mind or if any car is still available. I doubt it, but your car will still be great, and worth the wait.

The car has very high capabilities. You can easily get more than 400-450. The problem is that the transmissions can't hold up to the power. For instance, the s-tronic, which I will be receiving, can only support like 405. The car is worth every penny from what I've heard from people who've taken delivery in Europe. They say the car is amazing and you can't argue anything. European car said you can't dispute anything about the car once you have it because everything is so equally balanced that one thing doesn't overwhelm the other. If you can get one, do it. If you don't have enough money, still look into it to see if there's anyway to get it into your price range. If not, you can always wait a year or 2 and a used one will low mileage will come back with a low price or they will begin the discounts to push the car out.

The car sounds sick. If you have any pictures just post them. I understand how you feel on the mods, but your car is still sick. No one can really argue that who truly appreciates cars. My goal is to get this car and stick with it, even when the next S4 comes out. But who knows. I really want to mod it which makes it harder to deal with, but for all I know I can keep this S4 since I'm buying it out, and possibly get a 2nd car in 4 years. This way I can make the S4 ridiculously fast and have a daily driver available so I'm not running under 10 mpg all the time with a completely upgraded engine.

There are 2010 Audi A4's available. If you want one just call your dealer. Every A4 comes out each year as that year model. For instance, look at every year in the past, there hasn't been a year that I've noticed that the A4 hasn't been built (except before it existed).

The 2010 A4 is the same as the 2009. The next model will be 2012. The A4 stays the same, only taking minor upgrades over the span of its life. They're mostly to repair anything that has proven a failure. They try not to make changes quickly because people who have purchased a 2009 would be angry if the 2010 has more power or anything. An example is the S5. Audi was going to bring the new 3.0T engine to the S5, but due to buyers argument, they are waiting 2 years until the next model S5 will be in production.

I can't wait to get my S4. I'm going to get 5% or 15% tint, I'm not sure yet since I got pulled over with 5% in Blue Bell, but had it for 2 years in Philly and had no trouble. So, now I have 15%, but I like it when its straight black. I'll figure it out eventually. I want to do 20" black rims with high performance tires. I obviously will have air freshener, but after the new car smell goes away.

I think I'm more interested in seeing what modifications will arrive for the S4 than the S4 itself.[:D]
The MTM results are pretty good but, the torque isn't as high as I had hoped.
MTM claims a peak output of 424HP(317kw) and 379Ft. Lbs.(515NM).
Remember, this is up from 333HP and 324Ft. Lbs. Not bad but, a lot more HP increase than torque increase.
It seems like the changes in tuning mostly occur in the top end of the RPM range. They show a pulley upgrade on their site but, there is no mention of whether it is used to achieve these numbers or if they did so with just software enhancements.
I would expect the pulley change to develop more torque due to the boost increase. I still wonder what the stock boost with the OEM pulley.
The most important factor is: Which model of supercharger did Audi choose? There are two models of the Eaton VTS (http://www.eaton.com/EatonCom/OurCompany/NewsandEvents/NewsList/CT_193399) series that would work on the 3.0 motor. Either the VTS R1320 or the R1640 would work. Obviously the 1640 would have more potential for tuning but, Audi might have selected the 1320 to make it more efficient at lower boost levels.
There is also the possibility that Audi had a special version made by Eaton for the S4 but, there's no way to know for sure at this point.

I plan on purchasing upgrades for my car. A pulley and chip would instantly improve power to near the 400 range. Like most of Audi's turbo cars, they all can easily add a high increase in horsepower and torque in a range from 40 to 70, using performance software. I plan on going with AWE as of right now, but I want to see what company gives the most power, but also a great deal of reliability. I really don't want any problems once I void my warranty with any upgrades on the car.

I really don't want any problems once I void my warranty with any upgrades on the car.
I'm not disputing that increases will happen.
I'm just curious if MTM made their output with only software or both software and pulley changes.
I'd also love to know the model of supercharger that Audi selected so I can look at the compressor map.
For example, here's the map for the VTS R1320. (http://www.eaton.com/ecm/groups/public/@pub/@eaton/@per/documents/content/ct_127898.gif)

"But in the case of the new S4, it stands for an Eaton Roots-type supercharger replete with two four-vane rotary pistons and maximum boost of 11.6 psi.
Not only does the Audi blower -- similar to the units Eaton supplies to GM for the Corvette ZR1 and Cadillac CTS-V -- help the S4's direct-injected 3.0-liter V-6 crank out 333 linear horsepower at 5500 rpm and 325 progressive pound-feet at 2900, but it does so without the shrilling whine normally associated with superchargers. In fact, only under wide-open throttle does a faint hum emanate into the cabin."
That's quoted from Motortrend.

it's just an ECU tune
no pulley...no nothing. (according to MTM and this report on autoblog
MTM turns up the wick on the 2010 Audi S4
by Damon Lavrinc on Jul 5th 2009 at 8:03PM
The tuners at MTM have begun tweaking the all-new 2010 Audi S4 (B8) in Europe, and as expected, Audi's new supercharged 333-hp 3.0-liter V6 is rife with potential. With only a revised ECU – no underdrive pulley, intake or exhaust mods – MTM was able to coax 430 crank horsepower out of the blown six – 97 hp more than stock.
The kit, which retails for 2,491 euros (around $3,500 USD), brings torque output up to 380 lb-ft and, according to MTM, drops the 0-60 mph time from 5.2 to 4.6 seconds. Clearly, good things are on the way for the BMW 335i fighter, and we expect more to follow when the new darling of the Euro-tuning scene arrives in the States later this year.

The car has very high capabilities. You can easily get more than 400-450. The problem is that the transmissions can't hold up to the power. For instance, the s-tronic, which I will be receiving, can only support like 405.[/url]
Not right. S-Tronic can handle 550Nm of torque = 406 pound-feet
This is enough for type 3 tuning from : http://www.bb-automobiltechnik.de/bb2004/de/typen/audi/a4/a4_8k/motoren/mau_v_a4_8k_v6_30tfsi.php

MTM doesn't have a pulley on their site.

If Audi wants to stay consistent, they will put the 1320 in the S4, ensure that it destroys itself under increased boost, then build an RS4 with a 1620 in it so everybody can upgrade to that blower.

You are absolutely right. Theres a car magazine here in Europe that dyno'ed the B8 1.8TFSI wich according to audi gives 160bhp, the dyno said 180+

You're lucky. I wish my car was coming the end of July. You can customize your 2010 Audi S4 just by going to audi.co.uk - the only difference is that there is no mention of a prestige package such as the one I have ordered, and the price is a little more than we will be paying. They are going to try and price it like the S4, so high 50s/low 60s for a fully loaded S4.

Another thing to note is that the RS4 will probably have a beefed up version of this same V6. What Audi is trying to do is bring back some of the tuner market that had people upgrading their B5 S4s to RS4s essentially. So in essence, there will be a massive plethora of OEM engine upgrades that will deliver crazy power, just as they did with the B5S4 -> B5RS4 upgrades. [up][up]

Well considering a fully loaded S4 with a chip is .1 seconds faster than a M3 and $10,000+ cheaper fully loaded, and the S5 is also slower than the S4, why would I Do that? I do not plan to race with 5 people in the car, but I plan to have better handling and better acceleration, so no loss there.

In Canada, that differential is about $20K! I've driven the M3, and I'm pretty sure that car for car with equal drivers, the M3 is better all round handler, and that V8 is a glorious engine.
But for me, the M3 isn't worth the difference, as I'll never use it. That, and I have lots of other uses for $20K [:/]

Well that's about 5x more than I'm going to pay. I've also driven the M3 and loved it. The problem is I need a car that can go through snow. I would love to take a M3 home, but here I'm also saving about $10,000 fully loaded compared price. That $10,000 I save could make the car easily faster than a M3. The explanation I was given is Audi wants all of the Dealers to receive their S4s at the same time. Possibly there are two shipments arriving in close succession? I didn't troll for more details as it wasn't going to change anything. Or, the Dealers may take delivery and sit on them for a few days to generate more sales prior to letting the customer know their car is in? I really haven't heard any news on the subject. I don't really hold the RS model too high because it's pretty much the same car as the S4 with more race-like body styling, more race-style interior, and a few upgrades/tuning to the engine. Any S-model can be turned into a RS model for cheaper than they charge to buy the RS. If it only comes out in a sedan, I don't think they will be bringing it the US considering they have a bad market for avant style S-models.

Audi generally tends to have only one RS model in production at a time. Right now we have the TT-RS (not available in NA), soon to be followed by the RS5 (most likely not available in NA) sometime next year.
Regardless, the B8 S4 will be amazing. As previously stated, with some fairly simple and relatively inexpensive mods, we should see around the same performance as the B7 RS4. [evilsmile]
That being said, we should see some very interesting technological advancements and performance innovations coming from Ingolstadt in the next 5 years or so. There not only are plans for lighter A5/S5 bodies mated to possibly 4 cyl forced induction engines, but also a general move towards, smaller boosted engines as opposed to bigger V8s and the like. Market trends and consumer opinions verify and reinforce this change in direction.
Unfortunately for us enthusiasts, we may have to come to terms with the end of glorious 4.2 420 hp V8s and high revving V10s... [:(]

It may be very possible there is no B8 RS4 in the near future, but conceivably there is a chance if they can make a business case for it. I am surprised by DBV's comment that there is no plan for Audi to bring the RS5 to North America. Audi has been strident in it's attempts to win, or at least lead at times, the horsepower race in many segments with the RS cars. In the absence of an RS4 it seems odd to me (or Audi's folly) to allow key rivals to rule the roost by not bringing the RS5 to NA. That being said, I predict they will.

We'll find out. They won't bring the cars over here when no one's going to buy them due to the economy though. I'm already going to my limit on this S4, but I will get the car and live in the car before I accept not getting it.

unfortunately you're basing this on the firm's philosophy 6 or 7 years ago...the company is very different today. Back then there were what...5 Audi models? A3/A4/A6/A8/TT?
2000-2002 there was the B5 RS4...then a C5 RS6 around 2003....
but then a B7 RS4 from 2006-8 was produced alongside the new RS6...there goes your rule of one RS model.
now there are 9 full model lines...A3/A4/A5/A6/A8/TT/Q5/Q7/R8
RS5 and TT-RS will be in production alongside the R8 5.2...so effectively 3 RS models. Four if you include the R8 4.2 which is also a Quattro GMBH produced car. Five if you include the resurrection of the Audi Quattro Coupe that appears ready to be announced.
That 'rule' had to do more with Quattro's production capacity and limited market demand rather than a proper philosophy. old rules don't apply to the new Audi!

I think that's because he was mistaken. RS5 is definitely coming to North America and ROW.

Yea, I can't wait for this car. Have a good time. Post up when you get back, check in and see whats going on here, hopefully someone will bring news of an arrival week or something.
First, I never said it was a "rule" just a tendency. Secondly, the RS6 actually wasn't produced until April of 2008, coincidentally the last year of the B7 RS4 which was produced from 2006-2008. So yes, you are right, they were both sold and produced at the same time. Maybe I should have phrased it differently. Quattro Gmbh tends to develop one RS model at a time.
I think we can agree when I say that the R8 is in a league of its own, providing the most "racelike" experience available from Audi at the time. Also, the R8 isn't a true RS model since I think we can agree the R8 isn't a Rennsport version of the A8/S8 right? (Coincidentally, there is supposedly an RS8 in the works for the next generation A8 model)
I think that's because he was mistaken. RS5 is definitely coming to North America and ROW.
According to who? What information are you basing this assumption on?
In addition, whether or not the TT-RS will still be around when the RS5 actually goes into production remains to be seen.
Audi Quattro Coupe?
Why would Audi produce another high performance coupe if they already have the RS5, TT-RS and R8 planned? That being, I sincerely hope you are right and they regularly start producing and developing RS models side by side. [race] Hopefully, market research will show us that there IS more of a demand for RS models in the future. (I'll keep my fingers crossed [:D])
Either way, the "new Audi" is headed in a great direction, and until we have solid information from the factory, its all up in the air as to what we get here in North America! [rolleyes]

I got an email from my dealer this past weekend. He said that the ETA of my S4 will be 9/21/09. The car is scheduled to be in production the week of 7/27/09. This wait is killing me [headbang].

FEATURES: 2012 Audi Coupe Quattro Relaunched
August 19, 2009
By Georg KacherIt would have been the perfect birthday bash: Audi celebrates its July 16, 2009, centenary with the rebirth of an icon - the original 1980 Coupe Quattro. But it wasn't to be. Although the concept car was almost complete, the board pulled the handbrake at the eleventh hour. What happened? All of a sudden, the brand chiefs decided that Audi should present itself in a less aggressive and more eco-friendly manner.
Thankfully, good ideas don't automatically go away when bigwigs order a shift of emphasis. That's why project Anniversario remains alive and kicking in a sealed-off studio. The exciting concept car is a modern interpretation of the revered Ur-quattro, which was built between 1980 and 1991. The Anniversario's design is inspired by the European-market Sport Quattro - a nastier, short-wheelbase Ur-quattro with a 306-hp, 2.1-liter turbocharged five-cylinder engine.
The all-new car is based on the S5 coupe. Chopping the wheelbase would have burst the budget, but Audi did craft new front and rear ends onto a largely unchanged passenger cell. The Anniversario also boasts a tall rear spoiler, wider C-pillars, a lowered ride height, and wild wheel-arch flares, as well as a lighter hood, trunk lid, and doors.
Details that hark back to the original coupe include large four-ring decals, Quattro badges engraved in the polycarbonate rear windows, S1-style front air intakes, and painted aluminum wheels. More modern touches include LED running lights and adaptive underbody aerodynamics. Add to this bigger brakes, twenty-inch wheels, and an all-wheel-drive system with an even more rear-biased torque split, and you'll see why this beast marks a very special evolution of the Quattro theme. The ambitious target weight is 3100 pounds, which insiders suggest will be propelled by a 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 rated at about 400 hp. Recently, though, the purists in Audi's R&D department have instead proposed a 340-hp, 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder variant of the Audi TT RS engine. That unit would be lighter and less thirsty than the six, not to mention a better fit historically. Theoretically, the Anniversario could be readied as soon as late next year. In reality, however, the project has stalled for economic reasons. Still, the car is expected to appear in concept form to honor the Coupe Quattro's thirtieth anniversary, which is due to be celebrated late next year. If the response is positive, the production version would be launched in 2012 - by which point this economic crisis hopefully will be history.

That's what I thought-- the Napa Silk Leather refers to the option Napa Silk Leather inserts (where you have Alcantara). I just wanted to confirm (and am glad to hear) that the Alcantara inserts come with deviated stitching. It would've been a very Audi thing to do to only offer the deviated stitching with Napa option. Good to hear!

Hi - I am really keen to get some feedback on the carbon trim option and further pictures if possible. I have ordered it with my Avant, but still not 100% sure if it is the right thing.
Is it real carbon fibre or a plastic imitation ?
I am also not sure where the trim is applied.
Thanks
I just went in to the dealer today to finalize. I sat a while and thought about alu vs. carbon. The answer: carbon. Rest assured.

Car is UNREAL. Scary fast, and like you, I haven't even scratched the surface of its capability.

I agree. I plan to get it in carbon fiber, which might mean getting it customly made [o_o]. I hit 120 like nothing just holding the pedal half way down. I can't imagine full throttle to 150. I plan to mod it, possibly a Rieger body kit, some 20" wheels, tint, and a suspension.

Brushed Alum Trim
S-Tronic Dual Clutch 7 Speed Trans

WOW, this car is silky smooth and incredibly fast, with good gas mileage to boot. This is definatly a keeper, with a 51% residual it will hold value very well. This car does not need many options as standard it comes equipped better than a 335i and can be had just below the 50k range. Audi really hit a home run, I hope to see Audi outsell BMW and Mercedes here in states at it has done in Europe. If your on the fence, go take a test drive, amazing.

Congrats. I love the lb/ft throughout my low RPMs.. I have hit 100 just shifting by 4,000 rpm at the most still at a quick rate. I get about 21.0 mpg. Good luck with the car, treat it well.
