I'm assuming you are talking about low in volume? or sound is mostly bass?

I have only worked on bose models but just throwing some ideas out.

-On the Avic, make sure the there are no filters (Low Pass Filter) for the rear speakers. I dont recall any on the Z2 but maybe.

-Are there speakers in the door as well as rear deck? Bose has both and rear deck is only bass.

-Blown Speakers? If you have a multimeter test the resistance/impedance of the speakers.

Just some ideas.

not sure about the non-bose but i know the rears in a bose stereo are powered by an external amp. the non bose i think have a amp attached to one of the rear speakers. It could be that you didnt wire them in so the rears are getting very little power.

Non bose is still amplified in the rear.

What harness did you use?
