a little while back, i purchased a Symphony II+ on ebay for 30 bucks shipped. obviously, no radio code, and it wasn't tested before it was shipped to me. However, the unit looks to be in like-new condition, but since it was so cheap, i have to imagine there's probably something wrong with it. it was 30 bucks, i knew i was going to take a gamble so why not. the seller had a very good reputation with tens of thousands of other stereo units being sold with almost 100% feedback.
so before i go out and buy all of the cables so that i can hook it up to my car, and pay the dealership the ~$100 bucks to get it coded and VAG'd, i was wondering if it's possible for me to test it on someone else's b7 car that is already equipped with a symphony II+. primarily, i just want to see if it'll even turn on, and perhaps prompt me for a code. that'll at least give me some assurance that it's worth going through with.
since these radios are coded specifically to each car, i want to make sure that i don't screw my friend over, and potentially reset his radio code, or screw something up in his car by hooking up my radio.
anyone have any insight as to how these radios work?
