Seems most people have the 2.0T and makes finding threads for the 3.2 a little long. How about we use this thread to discuss mods and issues and so fourth with the 3.2L. i havent done many mods yet but plan on picking up some springs and A8 wheels in the near future.
Im also interested in what exhaust is available for the 3.2

Ya, there aren't very many threads for the 3.2L. When I first joined, I found it quite difficult to find 3.2 related stuff. Anyway, I am doing some mods on my 3.2, but mostly aesthetics. Not really up for engine mods. Here is mine so far.

Here's a few pics of my 3.2L. The only performance MOD I have is the AWE 3.0 exhaust since we are limited on performance MODS. I'll probably be ordering the EVOMs intake here pretty soon.

haha, that's kinda funny, does seem like we all drive black cars. Is it hard to clear the corners and where do you get the clear corners? How much work is required? Also, if I paid a shop to do it, how much would it cost you think?
keep the pics comin they all look great.

Thanks for the comment. I am running Vogtland coilovers. As far as the wheel specs I don't know. DPE custom builds their wheels to your vehicles specs and they don't tell you.

Let me get in on this. I am looking for some mods, nothing serious but I am amazed at how much is out there for the 2.0T and how little is available for the 3.2L. Finding even the simplest things like air intakes or short-throw shifters is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
I'd also like to learn about the clear corners. I know what they are. What's involved? New light housing? Inserts? What?
How do you search for 3.2L-related posts? I tried the search using "3.2" and nothing ever comes back.

It involves taking the orange caps out of the headlights. All you have to do is take off the bumper (or if you're good at you can get away with not taking the whole thing off) then removing the headlight, heating the headlight and opening it, then just pop off the orange cap . Then just put it back together!

this reminds me of when i was starting out with the 3.0 so i feel everyones pain when it comes to performance options.
IMO. here's a thought. just maybe the new s/c audi is putting out may just fit the 3.2. until audi releases one here in the states we will have to wait and see. but there is a good chance that it will. There are many parts in the audi parts bin that are interchangable thru out the motor line.

i emailed PES a while back about a supercharger for 3.2 because they have one for the 2.8 and 3.0... no response though.. lame..
i like 3.0 king's idea about the new S4's supercharger but that will probably more expensive than getting a custom job done in the end because of how expensive oem shit is

the reason there isn't many mods for the 3.2 is cos most ppl buy the 2.0T and turbos are easier and cheaper to make go faster... its like how many ppl modded the 1.8T vs the 3.0?? the 1.8T took over the vr6 and the 2.0 is the new 1.8

IMO, i think VF will do more supercharging as soon as the 4.2 is done. The ball will get rolling for VF once the sc4.2 is showing solid reliability.this will probably spawn good news for the 3.0 and 3.2. it is a open market for VF to look at with the 3.0,3.2 and why not. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I also noticed that there were few threads relating to the 3.2 also. From my own experience with the car, I would say that's because 3.2 owners didn't get the car to hot-rod the four banger and the 3.2 is usually equiped pretty well right out of the dealer, so there is less need to add to it later.
Whatever the reason, I'm just about at the one year mark for my B7 (and almost 14,000 miles and I still get impressed about things on the car. I really have no desire for more power and I love the way the smooth shifting six-speed box. If anything, I wish the NAV radio would take larger that 2 gig SD card and would allow putting MP3's in some sort of a file structure. Other than that, I have no real complaints.
The engine sound at high RPM is great and the cruise fuel efficiency is spectactular.
Without the V-6, I wouldn't have bought the A4.

That's how i felt too, but now that i've had my car for 3+ years, i feel like i need more power....little more "oomph".

I'm here too. Quartz Gray Metallic 3.2Q Avant.
I knew going in there wasn't alot of power upgrades for this engine and thats why I went with the 3.2 instead of the 2.0T. I would've been either broke or divorced...actually both would probably be the case.
So far I've found the usual stuff. EVOM CAI, RS4 rear sway, H & R springs(yuck), Alcon front rotor only upgrade, Neuspeed RS-10 19" rims, Milltek exhaust, S4 rear valance CF, Deval RS4 front bumper.
I'm going to get a better camera eventually and take some good pix, here's a couple for now.

I just picked up my certified pre-owned on saturday and have a few questions for the 3.2 people.
does your engine make a noticable whine that corresponds to the rpm's, almost like the sound of a supercharger? It is freaking me out because it potentially sounds like something is wrong with the car.

Not to insult anyone, especially considering that most folks on AZ have 2.0, but I recently had a chance to drive an '08 A4 2.0 loaner for a weekend when my car went in for 15k service and compared to the V6 it felt like POS (sorry). Acceleration was crappy, engine noise was awful, exhaust note sucked and the car felt underpowered. Granted, the loaner had AT, and I do realize that most "enthusiasts" prefer the MT and that there is a boatload of engine mods for the 2.0, but in the stock form, the engine noise reminded me of a cheap 4 banger, not a sophisticated German automobile. When I got back into my 3.2, it literally felt like a totally different car. That said, I think that Audi is making a huge mistake by eliminating the V6 from their A4 lineup.

I had a 2001 VW jetta 1.8T and that car was a DOG stock. After I was done modding it with APR software, K04 turbo, upgraded intercooler, etc, the car was FAST! it makes my 3.2 A4 feel slow. I have to get used to that now. There is enough of a difference that I'm not totally convinced that the used A4 I just got is in perfect working condition even though it runs smooth and gets good mileage. I'm sure a modded A4 2.0T is a fast and fun car. (always gotta have a manual trans though)

I had exactly the same experience. But my 3.2 is an auto also, so it wasn't the transmission that made the difference. It was the engine. It was way too rough and noisy for such a nice car that sells for 40 large when new.

I can't believe it took me this long to find this thread. I've been looking for effective mods for a while now. The only thing I've done so far is install the RS4 rear sway bar which is an ABSOLUTE MUST. The sway bar makes the car respond much quicker to steering inputs and reduces the A4's natural understeer. I've even experience no-power oversteer in the snow with the sway bar installed.
In the future…
I plan to get the PES ECU software for the 3.2 and the AWE S4 (B6 or B7) exhaust.
I've emailed with PES and while they are currently looking for someone to lend them their A4 3.2 for a few days, their 3.2 supercharger development is not confirmed. But with the ECU software and the exhaust I hope to have ~285 BHP. Is that too optimistic?

Struck out in that we went to authorized Unitronic dealers to get our cars chipped only to be told it could not be done, There have been posts about this. I know of only one guy that was able to get the chip. He did a post sometime last summer/fall. People have written to Unitronic for help and never get any response.
I checked out the PES site. I noticed that there number for "stock" torque on the 3.2 is wrong. The stock torque is 243 lb-ft, not 236 lb-ft. Not sure what that is all about. 19 hp would be nice, though.

and if you're gonna throw uni under the bus for not responding, youre DEFINITELY gonna have to throw pes under that same bus.. ive been emailing them for years and never got a response once [rolleyes]

Fair enough, but I have no abosutely no experience whatsoever with PES, so it would be pretty ridiculous for me to criticize them. I didn't even know they offered a tune for the 3.2 until it was mentioned in this post yesterday. Are you the one that got the Unitronic tune?
So let me get this strait.
There is still no good and solid solution for the 3.2 chip

You are correct, I only know of one person successfully chipping using the Unitronic tune. Depending on year, your car has different ECU manufacturers. My particular car has a Siemens ECU and Unitronic was unable to "crack it", I tried twice. I wish you luck, but whatever PES is saying I would hold with a grain of salt.[wrench]

One would think since more people are owning the 3.2(i.e. B8 a4 and A5), that some company would pull some software together.

I would be interested in High-flow cats rather than cat-less. I wouldn't want to mess with the emissions system too much for inspection reasons. But in reality, I wouldn't spend the money. I've been wanting a cat back system but still haven't even purchased that yet either.

I had no idea there might be three companies that may have chip tuning available. I had given up hope. I would love to just bring the power up slightly to 275-280. Exhaust would be great too. I love the sound of the V6. It's what sold me, and the rear heated seats.

I never ran 2 head to head. But I owned a 2.0T(APR) GTI DSG and it's faster than an A4 2.0T(APR). I went straight from my GTI to my current 3.2, and they were so close it was almost indiscernible.
I'd have to agree with you (a year later not too late?) I have a 2.0 as my loaner now and I didn't have a chance to look at the back to see what engine I had before I drove away, and I was certain I was driving a TDI with how it sounded. I was surprised to see that it was a 2.0... I think my loaner might be broken or something.

WRT the navi DVD, I think your only other option is eBay. Some one may be selling a disc from a totalled Audi.

Hi Everyone,
I just got my A4 B7 3.2 about 3 months ago and love it. Already have taken it on 1000 mile roadtrip and got my first speeding ticket, lol. Bought it from CPO with pre-tinted windows. Just have added license plate frame and some floor mat badges for interior. I would like to improve gas mileage a bit through chipping or other mod, as I seem to only be getting about 17 mpg in the city (and that is in D). If I could add 2-3 mpg w/o losing too much power that would be great. Any suggestions appreciated.

I too put on my AWE B6 S4 Resonated cat-back last week. Its fantastic: not too loud, much deeper than oem. I highly recommend the AWE resonated S4 exhaust for your A4 3.2. Its not loud enough to be disturbing but people definitely notice it.
I did some recording with my GoPro and exhaust microphone. Here's the video on YouTube. Its a mix of the GoPro audio and my exhaust microphone's audio. I still have too much wind filter on the exhaust microphone so it sounds a little muddled. I'll upload better videos soon.

I actually have no idea...the guy I bought it from isn't sure either. It's just a cone filter in place of the air box, with a wall blocking heat from the engine. It uses the original tubing. Here is a pic of it, I'm sure most of you are a lot better at identifying parts than I am :)

as far as i have heard, no one on this forum has ever gotten that tune.. im pretty sure the only tune people have here is the unitronics.. (and thats a hit or miss depending on whether your ecu is siemens or bosch)
Novitech tuning was able to scan my car with Unitronic on the phone yesterday and create a file that will work with the siemens ECU, I will have it done this weekend and let you know how it goes...

guys we would love to do it, however with all the points that would have to be addressed during this project, it becomes very expensive, very fast. In addition to the obvious stuff like FMIC, manifolds, turbos, downpipes, exhaust, tuning, etc.. we still need to address supplementary fueling, clutch, heat suppression, etc.. If we get somebody to step up and help us take the grunt of the upfront cost we can do it, the quote I wrote for the guy interested was very high, but we are still taking some of the hit in cost to see this project come to life. If we do make a single system, we will take the time to make jigs so it can be reproduced in the future.
As far as the specifics go, we want to do a built engine but that is up to the customer, and we have no decision on this yet. we are going to make log manifolds and utilize gt25's. The concept we have in mind is for an instant torque feel, not big high revving horsepower. We think with conservative boost and a stock block we can get to 350 whp on our dyno. I want to push the stock injector with water meth, it may be able to flow as well as the rs4 injector, i am not sure yet. We want a robust water meth system to be used as well to supplement the actual injector. Since the car has a single MAF, the intake plumbing to the turbos will be very tricky, so will the pressure piping to the intercooler. I want to do a single FMIC with dual inlets and a single outlet, these end tanks will be hard to make.
Honestly there would be nothing easy about doing this project. But with what i have in mind we can make a very safe, reliable car that makes plenty of power.

Add another black 3.2 to the list!
I just picked up my certified pre-owned on saturday and have a few questions for the 3.2 people.
does your engine make a noticable whine that corresponds to the rpm's, almost like the sound of a supercharger? It is freaking me out because it potentially sounds like something is wrong with the car.
I just bought a CPO 07 3.2 myself... 70,000km - I know exactly what you are talking about with the "supercharger" sound - mine does it too. I'm not sure if it's normal, I've never heard another 3.2. If it is normal, I'm fine with it. It's actually kind of a cool sound and it meshes well with the exhaust note (which is amazing!).

Yes I know exactly what you are talking about but I don't think it's the same thing making the sound. I asked the service manager at my local dealership why my car sounded like it was supercharged and he said he's "never heard a supercharger make noise before". I looked at him with a puzzled look and then explained the sound as a "whurring" noise that corresponds to engine rpm. He told me that it's probably the high pressure fuel pumps (plural) then told me there are two pumps on my engine (high pressure, one on each side) and that they are "noisy". I looked in my bentley service manual this morning... I'm not sure it really agrees with his statement.

JHM is in fact in the process of producing products for the 3.0, having already released intake manifold spacers. They will soon be releasing catless downpipes which i believe will fit the 3.2, ill probably end up being the person to test if they fit the 3.2.

What kind of oil are all you guys using? when winter started it was a little rough at startup, changed from castrol to mobile one and it's smooth as butter. Worth a shot.
Clint, definitely interested in hp upgrades, live too far away to help but am definitely interested in the final product!

Do you guys think it could work if I gutted the stock cat out, im thinking it would be higher flow and such, not to mention it would still look like a stock cat. any suggestions?

Think I remember reading some people doing this on here, I gutted that cat on my old car (86' Audi 4000, cat was rotten) and it gave it kind of a tinny, empty can sound. Sooo I would do some poking around here and see what other people think of it before you gut your cat (cat's are expensive!)

the issue with gutting the cat is that even though you will be removing the restrictive material, you will still have that large chamber which then necks down to very small piping. Yes you will gain a few ponies and probably some great sound from gutting the factory cats, but the remaining catalytic housing will cause turbulent airflow and you will not be able to maximize the gains. I think it's just worth it to just wait it out for someone to produce 3.2 specific catless downpipes. I highly doubt the gains will be disappointing.

Hello Everyone,
Just stumbled across these forums today. I was really excited to find a 3.2 thread!! I recently bought my first audi a few months ago after i returned from deployment. I must say its the best car i've owned so far.
I was really hoping there was a turbo or supercharger kit out there to really put a smile on my face but i haven't found anything yet.
What's out there guys?

Already got some parts coming:
-rwerks smoked tail lights
-RS4 Pedals
-Shadowline Matte Black Trim
-Smoked Sidemarkers
-LaminX Smoked Headlight Covers
I'm considering Nick's S6 LED retrofit but im not sure if i should just go with some B8 headlights..
Also trying to find some good wheels. I hated the s-line wheels at first but they grew on me, so i'm not in dire need haha.

Carbon, welcome! unfortunatly there's next to no power mods available to us with the 3.2's. If you read through this thread you'll learn pretty much all that is available to us.
Also, if you go with B8 headlights you'll probably get flamed pretty bad, unless you go with phil's (search fly300kts)

Welcome carbon, like they said there really isn't much that has good value for 3.2. As for the headlights, the aftermarket ones have a rep for not being very bright or reliable. I have flys and they are great.
As for my problem with my rough idle, I swapped the spark plugs out and seems to have fixed the problem so far.
Here's a pic of flys

The 3.0T Supercharger would bolt right into the 3.2 but you would need to run the coolant lines and get the tuning done

That's interesting, you're talking about the A4 3.0 with the PES kit right?
How much would i be spending to get something like that done?
Could putting a kit together that i could install over here in hawaii be a possibility?
I would love to take a trip up to MD but its about 2k just to ship my car haha.
Thanks for the welcome guys!
I thought people might flame if i got the B8 headlights...
I like the phil's though.

he is a member on here (Fly300kts). You ship your lights to him and he installs the LEDs, he will also do the clear corner mod and blackout the housing. Send a private message to him for pricing.
I can tell you that shipping might cost you up to $150 round trip, he is in south florida.
I posted a pic of my set a few posts above here

Very interesting... it sounds pretty simple when u put it like that, but I imagine it would take alot of tinkering to get it working right. I.e. not something I could just buy and install in my garage right? Plus I'm not exactly near any tuning shops [headbang]

I'm pretty sure it was too. It looks like a non-stock grill on there anyway so that might explain why the Quattro badge is missing.
