Can anyone help. Yeah I know it seems like a noob question but I was wondering if anyone can convert 420Nm to ft lbs of torque. TIA

Also what is the termonlogy for torque? this pound force foot (lbf/ft) or is it something else
1 NM is 0.737561 lb-ft
so 420 NM is 309.78 ft-lbs.
torque is force*distance.
in SI system: N*m
in USCS system: lb*ft

cool thanks guys..now that I got the noob question out of my system I am sitting here starring at a ZF technical Information Page out of the spare parts catalog I have for my tiptronic and stated in black and white is the torque rating of 420Nm...which stated above is 309.??. Now did I just varify what the true torque rating is for our tiptronic transmission or did Audi buy cheaper less torque friendly automatics?

The tip tranny has always been a weak link in the audi. I guess if you want to make more power you can have a shop build up your trans or maybe switch to a better one out of the S4 or RS4/RS6.

yes I know all of that. but according to the numbers on the transmission in my car and the technical manual I have in front of me right from ZF it says that my input tq rating is 420Nm or 309.77 ft lbs. now who do I believe is my question..the manufacture or everyone else? thats another thing there is not that much different internally between the S4 tip and the S4 tip. just the torque converter is different and that is because of the stall requirments of the 2.7 compaired to the 1.8
I am not trying to make a point or anything. I am just trying to figure out who came up with the idea that the A4 tip can only handle xxx amount of tq before it goes south. I personally think the manufacture would be the one to believe and according to them it is good for 310 ft lbs torque...I just want some clear cut answers. i am currently waiting on emails from ZF themselves and a few local ZF dealers..I will keep you all posted

I have a friend with a B5 tip which is running a K04 on it and uses it as a daily driver and for autox. I have another friend that was running his stock tip trans with a detuned PES T28 kit before he had the trans built up by Level 10 which he was not too happy with.

Yeah i am not going to level 10 for that reason..thee customer service stinks. As you can see in my sig i would like to get a least 320HP out of my transmission..If i have to rebuild it then so be it. but I guess what i am tring to do is get hard real answers for everyone that has a tip. I have made it my personal quest to get real answers from ZF about there torque ratings and all that much needed information.

Well you can always go with a turbo setup that will allow boost to come up slowly giving you the hp you want but keep the tq level lower.

thats true. I am not to keen on fabing my own kit then have to worry about tuning it. I am still researching this entire project
