Ok, I am trying to wire an AVH-P4000DVD into my car. I used the metra wiring kit that Crutchfield provides for our cars. It is also the one many people have on these forums have used to install an Avic D3.

Here is a picture of the metra harness soldered to the pioneer harness:

http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t113/unispeed/Metra%20Wiring%20Pics/S6300560.jpg

The connection I made are the following:

Pioneer YELLOW wire (constant 12V)
Metra YELLOW wire (constant 12V) on black harness

Pioneer Red wire (12 volts switched)
Metra RED wire(12 volts switched) on black harness

Pioneer ORANGE/WHITE wire (Connect to lighting swich terminal)
Metra ORANGE wire(Illumination) on black harness

Pioneer BLACK wire (Chassis ground)
Metra BLACK wire(Chassis ground) on black harness

Pioneer BLUE/WHITE wire (To system control terminal of the power amp)
Metra BLUE/WHITE wire(Amplifier Turn-On) on red harness

Metra GRAY RCA (Right Front AMP Imput) on red harness
Pioneer FR terminal

Metra WHITE RCA (Left Front AMP Input) on red harness
Pioneer FL terminal

Metra GREED RCA (Left Rear AMP Input) on red harness
Pioneer RL terminal

Metra VIOLET RCA (Right Rear AMP Input) on red harness
Pioneer RR terminal

Metra BLUE wire (Powe Antenna) on black harness
Metra BLUE wire (Antenna Amplification) on EU to USA antenna converting harness

Now, the unit powes up just fine and plays cds but there is no sound coming from the speakers. The bose amp in the trunk is good because it works with the stock Symphony headunit.. same goes for the speakers. Does anyone have any insisght into this? Again, the problem is NO SOUND...

The light green wire is not hookes up yet as this is not needed to test the sound.

make sure the remote wire for the amp turn on is providing 12v when the deck is on.

im 99% sure the blue/white is the antenna wire, and blue is the amp turn on(coming out of the pioneer), i bet if you put in a cd you will have sound how it is wired. Swap the 2 wires.

Agree with infinkc, I had the same issue. The remote turn on wire is solid blue... Besides that. You should hear sounds from the front speaker correct?

Check that the black metra harness matches with the pins on the in car harness. On my avant, only ONE front speaker in on that harness so I used all RCA connection to put sounds on my speaker.

Also, tap the blue wire from the antenna with the remote turn on wire and not with the acc wire for safety

I dont have a blue one coming out of the pioneer, only blue and white

I am not using any of the wires on the pioneer harness to power the speakers.. speakers are being powered 100% through the RCA outputs on the back of the headunit. Currently I am getting no sound from any of the speakers.

looking at you picture, you have a blue wire coming out of the metra harness, this is not for antenna, do not hook that wire up. Antenna should be coming off the deck harness not from the car since the deck powers the antenna not the car.

see if you have 12v off the blu/wht wire, you will also hook the antenna wire to it also.

Ok, I took the blue antenna wire and spliced it to the blue and white wire coming from the pioneer harness along with the blue and white wire on the metra (red) harness. I still have no sound. I didnt have a voltmeter, just one of those screwdriver deals that light up when they see current. I put the clip side on one of the black wires (ground) and with the scredriver touched the blue and white wire coming off the pioneer harness... it lit up!

Still though, no sound... I am wondering weather the RCA jacks are not putting out anything.. how do I test those? Any other ideas?

Anyone?

Edit: Tap the blue wire from the red harness and the blue wire from the antenna to the red(acc) wire on the black metra harness.

Also, make sure that you use the correct harness (speaker harness) on that red RCA.

That should give it enough juice to power your antenna, headunit and the rca's

try it.. that should work.

hook something else up to the rcas, like an ipod and turn the deck on, your deck might not be outputing any sound signal from the rcas. Plug your factory deck back in also see if there is sound still, you might have blown something.

Already tried that.. still nothing

There is only one harness from the car that will fit into the red rca harness... the harness I got from crutchfield and its this one: http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=103000&i=120701787&tp=2977

as I said before, the blue and white wire has juice.. it lit up the scewdriver tester that Ive got.

I dont have an ipod, plus, the problem is output... I wanna see if the deck is outputting anything, not if the deck can receive the signal from the ipod.. correct me if I am wrong. Is there any way I can test the RCAs with a voltmeter? if so do I just hook up an rca wire to it, cut and strip the wires inside and do a continuity test between them? Cause I tried that with the scredriver thingy and it didnt light up.

As I stated already, nothing is blown.. with the stock deck everything works fine.

I had issues when I wired up my harness the first time either but my issue was more user error. I tapped my blue wire from the red harness onto the cell phone mute.

Try to use a volt meter to see how much voltage that particular wire puts out. A tester light only test for positive and negative.

Once you determine there are 12volt going into the red rca and the antenna. try using a CD to see if that plays.

I dont think there is a way to test the rca output of the unit directly... You can try to get a high/low converter but that is more hassle.

Check your owners manual and make sure that you dont need to flip a switch to use the rca and in line speakers.

hope that helps.

i had the same exact problem. I was using the same install kit as well. do you have an aftermarket amp hooked up withe bose amp? like powering some subs? it turned out for me that some strands for my ground wire on my after market amp had migrated there way out and were making contact with the remote wire for the amp and causing the whole system to short out. including the bose amp and ALL speakers. the headunit would turn on and play cds but no sound. fixed those two connections now the systems sounds sweet and the 2 12's bump! i'll double check the wiring to see if i wired it the same as you.

Nope, no aftermarket amps, and no subs... bump for answers from the sound dept gurus....

are you sure you have the rca hooked to the output rca not the input? running out of ideas, sounds more like you have a bad deck. press the reset button on the deck also.

I gave up and brought it to best buy... it took that guy about 5 minutes to figure out that Metra had put the wires (talking about red amp harness here) on the wrong side of the harness..... so I paid him for that and now it works good! Funny thing is that I ordered the metra harness for bose systems... stupid metra!
