Yup From what I read, you have to wait 2 hours and then you can get the next 250MB. Fuck that.

ETKA is VW/Audi's proprietary application for parts/part numbers.

How come the first link is 1.21 GB by bz0n3 while the second one is about 7.25MB by mrponline?
What's the difference?
enigma1406
09-02-2007, 10:56 AM
It's not that hard guys. ETKA is a program that gives you part numbers. That's it.
It has nothing to do with RNS-E unless you want to find out its part number.
The link mrponline posted is RNS-E software updates.

ETKA is a VW/Audi's proprietary application for parts/part numbers, that's the link i have posted (1.21 gb or so), now on the other hand |3oricua asked for the firmware update for the RNS-E which is 7.25mb (posted by: mrponline).
Now the actual difference is this....
1. ETKA is a whole big @$$ application for parts and part numbers... (stays in your computer)
2. Firmware update is an upgrade you load into your RNS-E... (loads into your car/RNS-E)
that explains the difference on size....
i don't think is that hard to figure it out......

How can we get the original program? This is an update, so I assume you have to already have ETKA. I have a version of ETKA from 2002 but I heard that it is completely different now.
Thanks

Which update did you choose to install first. I downloaded the torrent and thought I followed the directions but it doesn't say which updates to start with, AU folder, VW folder?
TIA

You start with the first AU update. Make sure that they are in their respective folder (AU/Update etc) and it will go through each one. You have to put the password in for all of them...so you have to sit through like 100 installs of hitting next, pasting pw, next etc.

The file I downloaded has the original program. It is a 2GB torrent though.

that RAR i uploaded has everything in it.... ther is an ISO file of 1.8gb which is the whole program you need to burn and install, the you have the updates on different folders, and yes you just gonna have to sit and install a 100 different updates but is worth it......
FYI the file is not an update ex. UPDATE 597 = like other programs they use BUILD for that matter........so dont just think is an update cuz it aint.....

Hmm... I must have done something wrong. I started with the first AU update and then it switched on its own and started doing the VW update.

That's fine. Worst case, you just have to go down the list of Audi updates and do them all manually. If the update is already installed it won't let you apply it.

Just want to confirm, those two links are for the same thing correct? Just two different places to download from?

Those links goto the same thing although I found an alternate way to do it. I would suggest downloading a VM Image personally. I found that installing it was a real PITA and I didn't really want it all over my system. A VM Image is a Virtual Machine -- basically another operating system running on yours so you boot it up and shut it down through software. I found 7.0 Update 597 here (http://www.isohunt.com/torrents/etka.). There are even instructions if you have never used VMWare (which is very easy to use btw).
what about us mac guys? anybody have any ideas on how to get this?
TIA.

i know if you have nero, once you double click on the ISO file it opens automatically with nero and all you have 2 do is insert the DVD-r and let it burn.....[up]

Has anyone installed this yet? I have been watching this installer for about 10 minutes, and it's still at 0%, and it's loading .tif's and .jpg's like crazy... Now, I am actually a little scared that I am eating my hard drive... Is this normal???

It takes a while. I let it install overnight. It doesn't end up taking more than 2GB, but creating a bunch of small files takes longer than one large file.

Ok, well I think I accidentallyunpacked it into a folder with winrar. I now have a 1.98GB folder labeled ETKA, but if I click on the .exe files in there, it doesn't load right.

I think the readme file says to install the updates before trying to open it.
You can change the language it's in like this:
[================================================== =============================]
-: Change Language :-
.................................................. .............................
STEP 1 - Run ETKA
STEP 2 - Select the button entitled "ETKA STARTEN"
STEP 3 - Click on the "menu" button, then Sprachauswahl, then US Englisch.
** See image "menu.bmp" to see a what im refering to.
STEP 4 - Restart ETKA. It should now be opening in english language.
[================================================== =============================]
-: Convert From Europe Market To USA Market :-
.................................................. .............................
If you don't like that ETKA kicks back to Europe every time you go back to
the model selection screen, this can be changed. Make sure that ETKA is closed
when making these changes. Assuming that you installed ETKA on the C: drive,
open C:\ETKA\PROG\ETKA_VW.INI in Notepad. Search for the following line:
"defaultmarkt=RDW"
And change RDW to USA, and save the file.
Do the same to C:\ETKA\PROG\ETKA_AU.INI.
Next, edit C:\ETKA\PROG\ETKA_USER_VW.INI and C:\ETKA\PROG\ETKA_USER_AU.INI.
Search for the following line:
"markt=RDW"
And change RDW to USA. Now you can start ETKA.
LOCAL MARKET will now be the USA. However, Europe will be listed as OTHER.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread folks. Can someone tell me how do i update ETKA?
I have a version7 update 673, got the DVD from eBay sometime ago and it was already updated to the latest update at that time, when i go to "update" it tells me "update not present" does it mean its just not configured properly or i have the latest update? Also i get no prices, all are at zero, how do i update that?
Thanks!

What you need to do is copy the update files off of your DVD into the respective folders for each of the brand.
File path C:\VAG\data\AU\Update
One you copy the update files into this folder, open up ETKA and it will ask you to update, you will have to type in the pin number from your disk and the update will take place.
You will need to do this for VW, Audi, Seat, and Skoda.
